I didn't see a post by our Bronco community price protection king @RagnarKon, so I'll start a new thread.

On Friday, Ford sent this info to dealers and mentioned it would be going out in the Nov. 7 email to customers. They worked to simplify the program this year. Here are the details.

2023 Bronco Model Year Transition

Anyone who has been through a model year conversion for Bronco knows the information can be confusing, especially considering the number of series and options available and the way those have affected pricing protection in the past. For 2023, Ford is streamlining the program.

Private Offer program
The first change is doing away with the term “Price Protection.” Now, dollar amounts offsetting the MSRP increase from time of reservation/order date to the current MSRP will be called a private offer –– officially: 2023 Bronco Model Year Transition Private Offer.

Next is a two-step process to determine your private offer amount. Last year, several dates and situations factored into price protection. This year, Ford is focusing on March 19, 2021 and September 9, 2022:

  • Did you order prior to March 19, 2021?
  • What was your series and door count prior to September 9, 2022?

Private Offer Amounts

These amounts apply to all 23MY Broncos except Bronco Raptor and Heritage Limited. The amounts are based on customer order/reservation date, series selected, and order changes.

How To Use the Table:
Step 1
– Do you get a Level A or Level B Offer?

  • Level A: Reservation / Order placed on or before March 19th, 2021
  • Level B: Order placed on or after March 20th, 2021

Step 2 – What was your order series / door configuration?

  • Private Offer amounts are based on the Series / Door Configuration ordered prior to the model year changeover (September 9th, 2022).
  • Changes to orders on or after September 9, 2022 will not impact Bronco Private Offer amounts.

I’m not sure that applies to the private offer; I queried someone on here who asked the same question and they asked their dealer, who then reassured them it was not a factor. Perfectly valid question, though. I mean, why assign an expiration date to the offer if there’s a question as to whether the vehicle will arrive in time for the owner to benefit from it?

Can the private offer be received as a check? Or is it automatically taken off of the final price of the vehicle?

It depends on your dealer and how willing they are to do a little legwork to verify the discount and apply it to your OTD price. Many reports of dealers playing dumb. IMO a ploy to get the customer to say eff it and then the dealer pockets that money later down the line.

From the start, I encouraged my dealer to be on the lookout for the Private Offer certificate. They got on it right away but could not confirm receipt of the Private Offer until just prior to closing the deal. And when they did confirm it was available, they applied it as a credit towards the purchase of my Bronco. It was treated like an additional down payment. I paid the full MSRP as we agreed, and the sales tax was based on the current MSRP. For me, this meant that I had to pay around $250 more in sales tax (relative to my state sales tax), but the total amount of my Private Offer certificate was applied towards the purchase price of the vehicle. So, I put down my down payment, and an additional $2,450 was subtracted from the vehicle price.

Anyone waiting to close the deal on their Bronco may want to get ahead of this and ensure that their dealer is doing whatever they can to secure these savings. Theoretically, the dealer will not benefit from these savings in any way, since it's Ford that is offering the savings to the customer, not the individual dealerships. Good luck!

Hm. I’d rather have the check and use it on a hardtop along with the 2500 from stepping down. Is that possible?

There are lots of threads on this site about this. Don’t let your dealer off easy.. the qualifications really are pretty straightforward.

You'll probably have to ask your dealer that. I don't think the Private Offer certificate has a cash value per se. It's more like a coupon. BUT, if you were planning to put down a lot (or pay entirely in cash), you can simply consider the Private Offer an instant rebate to use as you choose.

That’s what I was thinking. I could just use that as my down payment, and the liquid cash for my hardtop.

Don't take check, you will be paying taxes. The 2500 needs to offset the price to avoid paying tax

As I said earlier, I had to pay taxes based on the full MSRP. The certificate was treated like an additional down payment.

My 22 I had to pay the taxes also. Still waiting for my rebate…..smaller dealerships don’t have the sales volume of other vehicles to cover the out of pocket on this, at the time of sale.

Sounds fair. I had originally ordered a 4 door Outer Banks but switched my order to a 2 door Heritage Edition when I converted to a 2023 order. So I'll get a private offer for $2595 off of MSRP for my Heritage. I guess I deserve that for waiting what will most likely be almost a two year wait by the time I anticipate getting it.

Does not seem fair if WT order has to be cancelled and BB,OB,BD or BL now has to be switched. All old WT orders now a new trim have to pay retain at '23 prices not 20 or 21 prices. If removing packages on trim, then 2500 makes sense. However, all WT orders are going to be stuck paying retail.

Yes, you paid taxes on full MSRP. If you applied the discount then tax applied to MSRP - discount = taxable amount. The best way to avoid paying extra or over taxes is to have all discounts/rebates applied to MSRP. You can look up the tax laws in your state.

I appreciate all of the advice. I plan on using the Bronco Order Modification Certificate as down payment (I planned to put down 3k) and take the Price Protection money as a check. With the price protection money and the original 3k I was gunna put down I’ll buy an adv hardtop:)

I called the Bronco Support line today to verify that I qualify for the Private Offer (price protection). They gave me the certificate number, so the dealer can easily look it up. In NY, I believe we have to pay the sales tax on the total purchase price, not the net after the PO is applied. That's definitely a money grab on the part of the state. It's the same thing on big ticket items at Costco, you pay the sales tax on the item before the manufacturer's rebate. Scam.

In Washington State it is the same… discount (certificate, whatever you want to call it) is added to the down payment and taxes are levied on full MSRP…

We have the ADDED bonus in Washington of paying sales tax on a vehicle every time its sold (they call it a usage tax), no matter how many times a vehicle is sold…

In NY, the sales tax is on the net between the new vehicle and the trade in. Dealers use that as an incentive to get you to trade in your vehicle as opposed to selling it yourself. With the advent of online dealers, people are starting to sell their vehicles to them instead. What would be fair is if the tax was only collected once when sold as new.

Hi! Looking for clarity here as my bronco just shipped. I have a July 2020 reservation. The dealer is saying I do not qualify for anything because I never converted my order in 2021. I converted my order before the 11/22 cutoff, thus why I am getting the vehicle. Can someone assist with what I should show, say, or do to prove that I should qualify for some type of protection.
