The Real Reason Why Ford Doesn't Sell A Bronco Pickup Today

"When Ford announced the Bronco, Jeep was kind of playing a game of its own with the Wrangler. There was no other vehicle on the market that could compete in terms of off-road abilities and open-top feel. This was until Ford came up with the Bronco which managed to get close to the Jeep's abilities. Its lack of a solid front axle puts it a bit behind, but it is safe to say that the Bronco is the second most capable 4x4 on the market today.

With the above in mind, it would only make sense to produce a Ford Bronco pickup."

Top Speed believes a Gladiator rival would sell well, especially if produced with a stubbier wheelbase vs. what Jeep puts out, but it won't happen unless Ford cancels the Ranger.

We've talked about a Bronco pickup before, but what do you think about it competing with the Ranger? Would you take a Bronco pickup over one? Personally, I wouldn't. I think the Bronco is fine for its purpose as is, and if I wanted a truck, I would go larger than a Ranger.

Well they ARE a business which requires making $. If it were viable and desired by the people it would be profitable it is not widely desired so here we are.
Yes and they were making money on sedans just not as much as on trucks.Ford seems to think if they can't make as much as they do on 150, they shouldn't make it? That line of thought is costing them sales. Ford has no entry level cars, buyers that start with a company tend to stick with them.

Hey! I still like Rancheros and El Caminos! Give me a mullet and I AM THERE! My wife would divorce me but hey, we had a good 38 year run...
You are spot on about the need for pickups. However I already have one and rarely use it for work and not all people use pickups for work. It is cheaper to rent one if needed once or twice a year or less. I too did not like sport tracs when they came out because the view that they were not functional, but have grown to like them but now they have garnered a following and have increased in value. To your point about the tailgate didn't they also have bars similar to the bronco tube doors that could be used as a defacto tailgate/load retainer when the tailgate was down? There have been those who have asked for a drop down tailgate on the Bronco in the future so that may be something.

Saving lives is stupid? Sorry I couldn't resist. On that I do find it bizarre that the Broncos rollover rating is lower then the S197 Mustang convertibles unless they have different criteria.
We're in the year 2023, the Feds should allow computer aided modeling simulation for crash testing so manufacturers don't have to test every derivative/configuration of the base vehicle architecture. We'd get more model diversity and drivetrain diversity.

They could have dusted off the Probe name.
Like the appliance the Probe name evokes, it is battery powered like said appliance. Lets face it, EVs are soulless
machines, the Beach boys aren't going to write songs about battery powered cars.
The Probe was going to replace the Mustang but back then Ford listened to the customers and the Mustang clubs organized a revolution. The Probe GT was alright in its own way but would have been unacceptable as a Mustang.

I would not be interested but for the sake of a balanced discussion and realizing I am just one opinion if it were to keep the brand, support and parts alive while pleasing the customers and did not eliminate the current format that COULD be a good thing. I will also concede that as a 2 door owner in my mind I'm envisioning it through that lense and believe that would look absurd but it is POSSIBLE that based on a 4 door or slightly stretched chassis it might work. I however would not be a buyer. There are several other current and even older options I would buy if in the market.

I was one of the 85,000 that sent letters to Ford telling them not to put the Mustang name on the Probe.Probably the last time Ford listened to customers.

As much as I think the Bronco pickup would be cool, the more I chew on it I just don't see it happening. Why would you cannibalize your Bronco sales and or Ranger sales over the next 2 years, especially with the Bronco rollout happening the way it did. Those trucks come off of the same line at MAP, so why you would add another configuration doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Ford will also have the T3 electric pickup starting in 2025. It will bbe coming out of the new Blue Oval City facility in Tennessee.
I am thinking it will be a smaller truck than anything currently offered. Supposedly it will be like nothing we have ever seen.

AND by that logic the Mustang Mach E is the first Mustang with its own dedicated platform. So it's the only real "Mustang". 😉

That's fine, next time I'm in the market for a vehicle the 2016 Shelby Hertz still hasn't loosened its grip on my heart and they'll still be available with super low miles on some cases. In all honesty I may never buy a future Ford anyway since they are going head first into computers, nannies, and Spyware.

Comeonman, the Mustang was originally marketed as a meek and mild "Secretary's car". In fact Ford was all over it in 2018 that the first Mustang customer was a 22-year-old lady school teacher Gail Wise, who still owned the convertible 'Stang 54 years later. Mustangs have 4, 6, and 8 cylinders. And now AC syncronous electric motors...

Naming their first ground-up EV a Mustang Mach E doesn't disrespect the Mustang legacy, in fact it probably will just eventully enhance the legacy.

Not flaming, just putting the truth out to read. 😉

I see diesels on the trails alot, especially with overlanders better torque and towing for more of a base camp scenario.

Hummm... does Ford really need another full-size Pickup truck that looks like a Bronco (if Gen 7 Bronco moves to the F150 chassis)? Kind of the same argument for model diversity on the Ranger chassis.

I think the Ranger should go away and be replaced with the Maverick, and the mid-size Pickup be built on the Bronco architecture using the 4-door wheelbase chassis. Do a 2-door long bed and a 4-door short bed. Both with removable tops. Keep the manual transmission of course!
Keep the Ranger name lose the Maverick. That was a car.

A car mostly forgotten. Unless it was a Grabber is was worthless.

Now why didn't they name the Maverick truck? Ranger Sport? Does Ford respect the Ranger? No one else does.
It would get more love if it was 2 doors and manual box
