The Real Reason Why Ford Doesn't Sell A Bronco Pickup Today

"When Ford announced the Bronco, Jeep was kind of playing a game of its own with the Wrangler. There was no other vehicle on the market that could compete in terms of off-road abilities and open-top feel. This was until Ford came up with the Bronco which managed to get close to the Jeep's abilities. Its lack of a solid front axle puts it a bit behind, but it is safe to say that the Bronco is the second most capable 4x4 on the market today.

With the above in mind, it would only make sense to produce a Ford Bronco pickup."

Top Speed believes a Gladiator rival would sell well, especially if produced with a stubbier wheelbase vs. what Jeep puts out, but it won't happen unless Ford cancels the Ranger.

We've talked about a Bronco pickup before, but what do you think about it competing with the Ranger? Would you take a Bronco pickup over one? Personally, I wouldn't. I think the Bronco is fine for its purpose as is, and if I wanted a truck, I would go larger than a Ranger.

I’ve had pickups my entire life.
They are and always will be a needed vehicle for the working class.
Much like utility vans.

My wife and I agreed to buy her an explorer (sport trac) in 2005.

Cute little truck and what is perceived as a very small useless bed.

(I Was Extreemely underestimating the functionality)

The inside dimension width is 49”
With the tailgate down is 6’ length.

-I have hauled 8 sheets of 1/2” plywood.

-8 sheets of 1/2” sheet rock.

-a washer and drier.

-4 five gallon fuel cans.

- 12 bags of assorted peat moss , garden soil , fertilizer etc…

But the key to the sport trac was the (Drop Down Tailgate)

A pickup version of the Bronco is
In my opinion
useless with a swing gate.

Unlike the previous generations,
All of whitch I’ve seen on farms , ranches , feed stores etc , at one time or another,

No reason at all for ford to even bother with a pickup version, if they keep the swing gate.

I'm surprised they didn't do the station wagon combo gate, would solve the problem.

Ford won't do it for one simple reason, they only care about profits, not serving the market.
But that's the thing, I think for not much investment Ford could make a profit on a Bronco Pickup. It's the stupid Government crash testing regs...

I'm not convinced that independent front suspension is inferior to solid axle, but I'm not an expert.

Off the topic of a pickup, but I take exception to this line of thought. The SFA is better at some types of offroading, the IFS is better for others. There isn't a clear cut overall #1.

I keep saying they should have used a name they couldn't tarnish for the electric car, like Granada or Fairmont. No matter what its not a Mustang, Mustangs have V-8s.
Pretty sure Mustang have always been offered with at least a six cylinder engine to go with the V-8

I would definitely buy a bronco pickup. It would have to have a diesel engine.
Mee too, I can already see it. A Bronco Pickup Everglades for the snorkel, Sasquatch for the 35s, and a Diesel power plant for the gobs of torque. Single cab for a longer bed or double cab for the family and friends. 🤞 Come-on Ford !!

No, we don’t need another pickup truck. It’s time has come and gone. I saw this recently in Kennewick, Washington. It was “cute.” Not the first thing you should think when you look at a pickup truck. Still, cool in its own way…

Now THIS I like! Probably just because what it is and I certainly wouldn't buy a new one but dang. Everything except the tires/wheels is great, it even carries off the white interior.

Wait, you actually mean this: 😉
By that logic the 6G Bronco is a Ranger Everything above the chassis is completely different on a Mustang. I do like me some Falcon though. Some body lines are just timeless. And you'd behard pressed to find better taillights.

Don't got time to read everyone elses reply, but the only way I'm getting rid of my girl is a Bronco Pickup with a stick.

It'd be some evil genius move, like this clip, but much more realistic:

Well they ARE a business which requires making $. If it were viable and desired by the people it would be profitable it is not widely desired so here we are.

You are spot on about the need for pickups. However I already have one and rarely use it for work and not all people use pickups for work. It is cheaper to rent one if needed once or twice a year or less. I too did not like sport tracs when they came out because the view that they were not functional, but have grown to like them but now they have garnered a following and have increased in value. To your point about the tailgate didn't they also have bars similar to the bronco tube doors that could be used as a defacto tailgate/load retainer when the tailgate was down? There have been those who have asked for a drop down tailgate on the Bronco in the future so that may be something.

AND by that logic the Mustang Mach E is the first Mustang with its own dedicated platform. So it's the only real "Mustang". 😉

Just sayin'

Saving lives is stupid? Sorry I couldn't resist. On that I do find it bizarre that the Broncos rollover rating is lower then the S197 Mustang convertibles unless they have different criteria.
