Very desirable, tax-wise. No income or estate taxes. The #3 most popular state to move to, after Florida and Texas. They even have an off-Roadeo now, to properly welcome newcomers.
Appalachia area is a great are to live in. But the locals were very "clanish" if you're not related. May have changed since then and not a problem if you don't have to look for a job.
When we moved to VA, Jeff applied at the Ford dealership in Rocky Mount. They called him for an interview. During the interview,, they showed him around the shop. One guy is doing an alignment and struggling with it. Jeff went over to show him how to do it with a trick he learned.
The interview ended about 30 minutes later and they said they would call him. Jeff called them after 3 days and they said they went in another direction. Then they called him a couple weeks later for another interview. Same thing. And they called for a 3rd interview and Jeff said "no", either you want me or you don't. Our neighbor worked there and came over that evening and said that if he wouldn't go in for an interview, they won't call him any more. JJeFf said that he diesn't need to be called for interviews every other week, he needs to be called for a job. If they still need to interview me, I don't want to work for them. It was weird. I'm sure the guy that didn't know how to do the alignment was related to someone there and therefore didn't need experience and probably wasn't interviewed.
But I would come visit y'all in a hearbeat.
