For years, Day 1 reservationists and early order holders have looked forward to a missing piece from the Bronco launch: the Bronco Trail App, formerly referred to as the FordPass Performance app.

Bronco Trail App – Ready for Use

Today is the big day. Ford is launching the Bronco Trail App at Moab Bronco Safari, and it’s available now in the Apple App Store and Google Play for free download and use. Prior to launch, the app was marketed for Mid Package Broncos and up. As of today, the Bronco Trail App’s FAQs state the app will determine if you have an eligible vehicle.

The Bronco-specific off-road app features approximately 1,200 professionally curated trail maps across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It provides the ability to record drives with waypoints, photos, and video –– and lets you share your adventure on social media. Future updates will add more trails and features to the app.

From the developer: If the app crashes on you when recording, power off your phone, restart it, open the app, and leave it running.
If you force close the app, it will crash again when recording, and you'll need to do the power-off on cycle.

At first viewing (from my recliner), this app looked really cool and I’m still excited about it BUT WTH is this (see pic)?? Every time I get in my Bronc I get this message. I’m confused as hell and only get it going by going back and forth from phone to app on screen in vehicle and somehow blindly get it to work. I can’t even repeat the steps I take to get it going. I can just see going on a trail run with buddies and they’re all ready to go and I’ll be jerking around trying to get the app going. There has to be a user friendly way to use this. I’m sure someone has figured it out and can help explain it to me!?!?
I got this too when I didn’t fire up the app on my phone and log in before going to my Bronco.

I can't find it either. I did find Rubicon trail. I wonder if it is a permission thing with Ford or KOH. Have no idea who owns the land.

Disclaimer: I was/am just as frustrated as you are. But one thing I did that I read on this forum. Is delete/Uninstall the BRONCO TRAIL APP off your phone. Then download it again, and accept all the permissions it ask for.
Then go back to the Bronco and try it again. I did this and for the first time, mine actually SYNCED UP with the Bronco and I was able to get through the "GATE KEEPER" successfully. And actually got my phone to record the "cool" telemetry the app offers..

NOT TRAIL TESTED!!
But so far it was a win, in my garage..lol
Thanks for the tips! Going to give it a try.

Welp, I finally gave up trying to get the app to work. Works one time, then it won't open again. Uninstall reinstall same thing. Made a screen record is me trying to open the app, but I can't share a video clip here. I'll try again when there is an app update. Just paid for my elite OnX year pass.

This was released way too soon. Disappointment

I noticed today that there was a Trail App update on Android. No idea what was updated or if any issues were fixed but figured I'd put it out there.

Does Trail App have any Merus trails? I can't find much information about them.

No it does not. I was there 2 weeks ago with the Bronco connect group. I was told that the app only has public trails currently. If you contact Merus the can give you the trails to download to "Gaia GPS" app. That worked great.

BTW, Merus Adventure Park is a wonderful ranch. Just know it's teaming with wild life.

I did a couple local trails with it this weekend. It worked pretty well, and I don't have any complaints about the nav.

I need to figure out how to clear the waypoint pop-ups though. Those would spring up on the interface and take like 40% of the screen. When I would close them (using the X button on the popup), it would cancel the trail so I had to go back in and restart the Navigation. I had downloaded the whole trail package before I went out so I'm not sure if this is related.

I also rigged up my phone on the dash to record. You trigger the camera with the button on the screen display. It starts a counter, but there is not any indication that it is recording on the phone, so I cut it off. When I got home and was playing about with it, I found that it was recording with all the telemetry and stuff on there, I just didnt know that. So word to the wise, if you want to record, trust that it is recording.

On the whole though, solid B+. I wish I didn't have to use Carplay to do it (because I really dont like its interface), but a good addition.

Went to Holly Oaks on Sunday and I was hoping to get the Trail App working. I should have played around with the app last week but of course I waited till I was actually there to try it out. Found out that was really a stupid thing to do because I could never get it to work. I made some headway and thought I had figured it out and then it gave me an error that it couldn't connect to my camera. So freaking frustrating.

I'm going to take some time this upcoming weekend to read through this entire thread again and watch a few videos. Hopefully I'll get it figured out. It would have added a lot to the videos I took from inside the Bronco.

Oh that's disappointing -- I know it's marked on the app but Jordan and I didn't try it while we were there for Bronco Fest the other week. It would have been cool to see your footage with the overlay.

I played around in Moab with it this past weekend. I found it works best if you pre-download the trail you want to go on. It worked okay for me, but I did have one moment where the whole thing crashed and I had to restart my phone. Still, nice to have out and about. The turn by turn with waypoints is pretty solid. I think the record ability with the telemetry is pretty trick.

I would however like to understand how trails are being selected and added to the app. I think it would also be cool to see the trails on the map, and not just a waypoint to click on- that would make trail discovery much easier.

Were you recording when it crashed, and if so -- I assume you lose the recording?

I was, and the recording just stopped. It was all saved right up to the crash (the phone not the bronco) and was accessible after the fact in my photos. Very strange.
