Had my Bronco a couple months. 2000 miles. I have the 2.3 manual in my Badlands. When I start it up in the morning I hear what sounds like a grinding, somethings loose kind of noise. When I push the clutch in it seems to go away. It also seems to go away after it has been driven a while. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it normal? I have an appointment to bring the truck in tomorrow 1/12/22. I will let everyone know how I make out.

I have still been driving mine with the noise since it seems that even with a transmission replacement the issue comes back. Plan on asking them to check the fluid level and condition in the trans when it goes in for its first oil change.

Listened closely this morning. No noticeable noise when in neutral and clutch pedal out. Seemed to only be a colder weather phenomenon for me… will likely come back this fall and then I’ll take it in.
I have the 2021 manual and I have only experienced this noice in cold weather and it goes away once the engine heats up. Will definitely keep an eye out on it, I have just over 12000 miles on my rig and have never had any mechanical issues. I am glad it was resolved for you and thanks for sharing!

Has anyone found the answer yet for the grinding noise with the manual transmission when it's cold start and the engine isn't warm?

Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear about your Bronco. It is ONE MILLION PERCENT the transmission. Ford is aware of the issue. They've replaced so many already. Why they aren't bringing the issue to their customers attention (anyone who has purchased a 2.3 manual Bronco) is beyond me. I am currently on my THIRD transmission. It was placed November 7th. STILL hearing the sound. Waiting to hear back from my service department manager. I am WAY OVER THIS. It's exhausting and I feel defeated. I purchased my Bronco January 28, 2022. The first transmission was replaced with less than 100 miles and less than 30 days after waiting 10 months for it. Haven't even had my Bronco a year yet and again, currently on the THIRD transmission and still having problems. Not sure where to go from here. Like you said, embarrassing.

So, third transmission and still the noise continues??? That's not what I was hoping to hear. This is bad. I feel for you. So as I'm understanding it they still haven't pinpointed the issue? Which I find kind of hard to believe they can't figure it out

That's right. THIRD transmission and I have audio recording of the sound from today and many days prior. I record the sound daily at this point, for record. I've tried to attach video of the sound, but I can't attach video on here for some reason. Just pictures.
My second transmission was actually opened up and diagnosed. (The first one Ford asked the dealership to send back, and not open. The second one Ford initially said the same, due to "low time in use" since it was less than 12 months. They dropped the third transmission but then was able to open the second one, from what I understand.) I was informed that the issue was 'carrier bearing failure' and that this happened because the transmission wasn't assembled properly. I guess none of the 2.3 transmissions were properly assembled? VERY UNFORTUNATE. I agree with you though, I find it hard to believe they don't know what the problem actually is. I feel, at this point, that Ford knows and they don't want to admit it because it's going to end up costing them WAY more than they want to face.

Hi there. This transmission concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Ford Bronco. Could you please send us a DM with your VIN and dealership information? I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

My 2022 Big Bend manual transmission has been in the shop 14 days. New transmission has been delivered. They tell me it may be a few weeks before I get it back. I will update when I pick it up.

It’s been delivered but it may still be weeks? That’s bizarre. Unless your shop just doesn’t have a bay/the time for your bronco, they should be able to get the new transmission in for you within a day or so. I will say, the transmission usually delivers first, then the necessary bolts for it come in afterward. Why they don’t ship the bolts with the transmission is strange. But I’m on #3 (transmissions) and it’s been transmission delivers then bolts a few days later. Even still, “weeks” seems excessive. Especially since it’s already been there 2 weeks and this shouldn’t have happened to begin with. I’m really sorry you’re experiencing this. I know first hand how much of a pain this is.

Hey everyone, I think the problem lies within the oil that’s being used. The mustang guys had the same problems with the MT-82 transmissions. I would suggest BG syncro shift 2. The mustang guys swear by it. I think the DCU fluid called out is to thin and causing premature wear for a gear box oil. I believe ford did this for mpg savings. I’ll be doing this asap. If it does help then I’ll switch it back.

Bronco 202?

Haven't seen any numbers communicated by ford directly, just anecdotal evidence from folks on the forums. No recall I am aware of yet.
Hope it is very limited as my Mt bronco is just a few days from being mine.

I've had no issues with my Bronco's transmission. Was out driving today and it's icy in some places. Went around a corner and I slid just a little. The tires found solid ground and it corrected itself. The next thing I know I have an ABS warning, hill decent control failure, and pre collision assist unavailable warning. According to info I found it could be a wheel sensor, or some lose wires. Will call dealership Monday to see when I can get it in. Only 2258 miles, and less than a year old. Hope this is an easy fix.

Adding myself to this list / subscribing as well. I have had my 2-door badlands 7MT for about 6 weeks now with just over 700 miles and this noise had been driving me crazy. I call it a scraping or grinding noise when letting the clutch out in neutral, but there is also a rattling sound when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gears. It may be all gears, but the road noise drowns it out beyond 2nd gear.

Took me a while to find this thread here, mostly read the "general" forum. But I have read similar threads on the other form also, so recently became aware. I have mixed feelings about this last part - replacing parts? I'm not keen on a dealer tearing down a trans with under 1K miles on it. This thread started long time ago and my Bronco was just delivered last month, so this seems to be very "hit or miss" and if they figure it out on the supplier side, I think I'll be pushing for a new trans. But I'll keep reading in meantime. Thanks to all that have shared.
