I had good luck with Vdubs, got a job while on a test drive in a manual GLI

Modern VW’s are different, anything past a mk7 gti/R I wont look at, period.

As for Italy, its fascinating, I just understand shit, my Dad meanwhile in was born there and speaks fluently

There is a certain level of satisfaction and achievement in balancing a steering wheel,a Hurst short throw and a coffee with 2 hands. The extra pull with each gear shift is also a thing of beauty. Too bad traffic just turns it into dancing on the clutch and going back and forth between 1st and neutral. But open road is a beautiful thing with a manual. Red light to red light and freeway on ramps too.

Eh, IMO, either you truly like to drive manuals or you don't. All my vehicles are manuals except one and that was not by choice but rather, availability. I used to drive in some of the worst rated traffic in the Nation. I work from home now.

Modern cars (the last 20 years or so) with throttle-by-wire are much easier to drive in heavy traffic. The clutch/throttle response is augmented by computer control of the ECU that is programed to keep the engine running.

Also lets take a Mustang for example

Prior to the Coyote, the GT’s had leg press clutches and now I could teach anyone with legs long enough to drive it without concern

I had a Boxster S, wrote about a Cayman, both pdk, and upon learning stick, I was ruined. Whats the point of a sports car with an auto, its like an otherwise 8-10 with no personality

The GTs prior to the Coyote had a light pedal compared to the old Stangs and trucks with the Long Style clutch. They got progressively heavier as you pushed the pedal down, the newer diaphragm clutches let off at the floor.
Pedal pressure never bothered me.

As someone who owns both an 18 jk and a 21 badlands with the 2.7. The bronco can smoke the jeep. It doesn’t need a 5.0 a decent tune would be nice. That being said, after dealing with ford service . I would never leave a bronco for 3 years to get a clutch replaced. I will kee The 10 speed auto.

That's so cool! I always wanted to learn and finally figured I wouldn't until I had to, so many years ago when my auto equipped Shelby got t-boned and totalled I made sure to replace it with a manual car. I taught myself as well as my wife and my son on that car. (With no gear grinding from any of us 😅) Now my son almost refuses to own an auto. Though my wife didn't like driving the Shelby any more after peeling out by simply releasing the clutch quickly and not pressing the gas. It's too bad the new "Shelby" SVT cars are all auto and waaaay overpriced.

It really is .. and just as cool that you taught yourself, wife and son.

They're cruisers at that point, no matter how super the computer is. Without direct control, it's just not that enjoyable, and paddles are a poor imitation of the real thing, especially as we're not racing 24/7 where need those 10th of 10ths. It's not even slow car fast, its just the involvement, jinba-ittai (Horse and Rider)

It's been awhile since I tried a SN95/S197.1 GT, those at the time felt like leg presses to me, but also haven't drove one in nearly a decade. It's just where are the decently firm clutch like a mk1 Audi TT, that was like Clutch/Shift/Go Racey feeling, whereas the mk2 felt like jelly. MT-82's feel like perfect beginnings transmissions and built for long commutes without fatigue.

My I4 manual is just fine. Having said that, if it had been available with a V6, I likely would have ordered it (and had the troubles the V6 engine had compared to I4).

Ditto, although I want the fat lazy power band of a V8 rather than a little turbo. No replacement for displacement, I'm still of the belief we need more V10's and 12's available in mainstream cars, so a 4banger turbo isn't as appealing as a V8 unless it's a 90s jdm

I suggested that a while back and they don't like that either, they are married to the turbos and slushboxes. I'm not asking for them to buy it, they can buy what they want, but I would like to buy what I want.Ford is not competing with Jeep.Ford is on the ropes as it is,they can't afford to throw away sales.

True there is no replacement for displacement, but nothings as great as reduced weight so there is a balance.

Yah the 2.7 weights only 4 pounds less than my Boss Roadrunner engine. Problem is my FP tuned 2.7 has 53 lbs-ft more torque at 1000 RPM lower. The 2.7 does give up about 90 hp though.
The 2.7 is fine in the Bronco if it holds up for the long run. Very complicated engine.

Torque is what you need for pulling rocks and hills HP gives you top end speed. So bears the question? Nothing holds on to a torque curve like a inline 6, that's why the Jeep 4.0 was such a great engine!

I guess everyone has a different idea of a great engine. My Bronco has about 200 lbs-ft more torque than any 4.0 Jeep…

Nobody questioned any specs! I just told you the difference in HP VS TQ. If you want to argue find someone else, I have been working on cars for over 45yrs and don't care to argue any longer! I knew I should have never got the stick out and stirred squirrels.

Still,
1727189190805.png

Also same mods in a V10/12 make more power. You'd think in 2024 we'd have bigger engines instead of shrinking shit down cause of the Govt.

Not saying Weight savings isn't important, but you jump behind the wheel of a 2.7 from a 2.3 with similar mods done and you'll see how extra cylinders and displacement affect things
