AG is a tri-coat like the many seen whites e.g. White Sand, Platinum White, Star White along the way on various Ford models. The tri-coat has more labor/time involved at the factory which purportedly factors in to the extra $$$$ to get it. Most of the tri-coat colors I have had and seen do not photograph well to "show off" their deep metallic glow--I suspect AG looks a helluva lot better in person than via a photo and lighting sets them off even more in person.
One thing to consider with any tri-coat or tinted clearcoat color is they are much more expensive to repair and very hard to touch-up and blend.
Right, Wild. One of my daughter's Subaru has a tri-coat paint job. During a storm, the basketball pole fell on the roof of her car. She was devastated. She hadn't even had her license yet and she didn't think it could be fixed. I told her that it was nothing and it will look better than when we bought it. Our autobody guy is great and tries to get whatever he can get fixed covered, as well as waive the deductible. The one thing he told me was that the paint is a three coat process for her car, so it will be a bit more expensive, but he could get it covered. So, what do I do? Order Hot Pepper Red tinted clearcoat and pay extra for it, because I need a red car! But, I get a pass on this because I am a guy, right? Come on ladies, back me up on this. Because you probably think of this all the time when we don't think things through and say, "What were you thinking"? That's the point we weren't thinking, because we are basically still thinking like teenage boys! π
