Nostalgia is a peculiar thing indeed. Three times over the many years I have reached back for a few cars from my youth I had owned or driven extensively. One was a 1973 Pinto (don't laugh, there is a long story behind that...), a 1982 BMW 320i, and a 1984 Pontiac Fiero. In every case, despite my deep familiarity with each model, all drove horrid compared to my modern cars (cough-cough a 1997, 2006, 2208, 2009 - LOL); I passed on all of them*. Those experiences drove my earlier comment about the Gen1 with the replaced 302. There is no way a Gen1 OG Bronco drives anywhere close to a modern G6, or modern anything.
* the Pinto was earlier this year. The 50-year old body was in great shape (meaning little rust) and the owner had thousands of NOS parts. The 2.0L Pinto engine was worn and made hardly any power. My belief, based on my prior experience, was the valvetrain had been run too long on unleaded fuel and the valve seats were trashed. I thought about restomodding it with a 2.3L EcoBoost, but I'm not insane, there would be maybe two other people who'd want an early 1970's Pinto running an EcoBoost. 😂
Well said… I think about earlier Bronco’s, and specifically an OG Bronco as it was my first car, and consider when I see what appears a good deal…. Then I remember the crazy loud highway noise, the leaking seals around the windows, ROUGH ride on the highway, and I think… NAH… I’m good…
