Changing Color on order once it is "Scheduled for Production"?

Hello All,
I was in the midst of deciding which color to change my order to for 2023. I hadn't communicated it to the dealer yet as I hadn't made the firm decision. On Monday 10/3 I received an email from Ford that the dealer had submitted my order for 2023, without talking to me. I emailed them and said that i want to change my color to Azure Gray Metallic. The sales manager said that he was on vacation and would change it when got back. about 2 hours after he sent that email, Ford sent me the "Scheduled for Production" email (week of November 7th. Exciting news! Yes, but the wrong color.
I emailed that to the sales manager and rep immediately and the rep said he had to wait for the Sales manager. I went to the dealer this morning and they say that it is locked in their system. They called an Area Manager who also said that it cannot be changed once scheduled.
I do not know if i have a VIN yet or not.

Has anyone been in this situation? Is is possible to change? Are there words that I need to use or someone to whom i need to get this request to? I read somewhere on 6G that someone was able to change their color after scheduling.
Help! Thanks. @Laura Anything you can think of?

Is there anyone above him, especially since they pushed it through before you consented?

Dealer should be able to submit the color change without issue, and Ford may or may not allow it.

Had to change color on my brother-in-law's last year. It was pulled as Race Red in August 2021. Asked dealer to change color mid-September to AMB. They submitted it, color change went through. As long as you are a week or two out from build date, I think you'll be fine.

Spoke with my dealer today...
He said.... there is a certain number of days that one could change color, it's not a set number of days, it's varies according to other factors..

(factors could be many things I suppose)

So.... be nice, ask politely, but be firm and don't take no as the final answer, explain that you would definitely like him to try. And hopefully it will help him with other customers that have questions.... and That other dealers have, and are doing it.
I always say, the dealer is working for me.. but remember sugar gets you much further than salt. Good Luck!!!

And don't forget to bring DONUTS to soften them up. šŸ™‚ā€‹

Yes, but be sure to schmooze the right person. Choosing the wrong one won't yield the desired result!

They were screwed up and he isn't back until TOMORROW. But on the good side, my build date got pushed out a week.
Laura, they contacted their Area Rep who quickly said "No. It is locked". That is the only person above him that I have been able to make contact with or be aware of. We shall see what tomorrow brings... (donuts?)

It is Scheduled for build, so that must mean VIN. I was thinking that there might be a span of time between them. Order confirmed 10/3/22. Scheduled for build email 10/5/22. Build week of 11/7/22
The timing is due to me checking colors and trying to get a good read on Azure Gray Metallic (very hard to do!). I was planning to come in to the dealer this week, when they submitted my order. I think they thought that they were doing me a favor. I knew that I had until November 21st, so I thought I was ahead of the game. I'm thinking the sales manager converted it before he left for vacation... It is what it is now. Maybe I will love the Carbonized Gray. Yes I could always sell it and wait again. That doesn't sound like fun though. Live and Learn. There is no time like the present!
I would really look into what model you are getting november 7 build date is still 2022 models

SUCCESS!
Just stopped by. The Sales Manager had been trying to update it remotely from Hawaii, but it always showed locked. He says that when an order moves from Submitted to Production status is gets locked up for a while. It then enters into a mildly updateable (non-VIN related items I presume) mode for a bit before being fully locked for production. It may have just become unlocked today.
He was able to put in the change and add roof bags and upgraded carpet for me.
Hurray!
Big thanks to Larry H. Miller Ford in Mesa, AZ for helping me out! :-)

Production date is currently 11/16/22 for a 2023 (yes 23) Badlands 4dr, 2.7/Auto, Lux, Leather, Sasquatch, MIC, Mod, Tow in Azure Gray Metallic! I held out this long for the whole enchilada and it looks like it will finally pay off.
Phew! That is a load off of my brain and heart.

Thank you to all for your help in deciphering my situation. The new knowledge that you gave me helped me to continue pursuing this. Go Bronco Nation! I will see you all out there on the roads and trails soon :-D

No donuts. It was lunch time. šŸ•œ The Sales Manager had a good tan going for sure. He related how crazy it has been in the past few years. He confirmed that options like Sasquatch and Accessory Switches were disappearing from orders where they were options. He has to have the original order sheet and confirm all of the details and have the presence of mind to look for and click on all the options. It sounds like Ford is defaulting constrained options to "NO" on Model Year conversions. You really have to want it and ask for it again I guess. A small way to try to keep up production during the lingering supply chain issues.

I think I will have a bonus pint tonight and see if Thursday Night Football is any good šŸ˜‰šŸŗ

I finally took possession of it on the day after Christmas. I love it! The color is great and I'm very glad that I was able to get the color changed at the last minute. Here it is at the dealership:20221226_161131.jpg
Here it is at home that night:

And then in the sunlight on an overcast day:

And now a sunny day run to Home Depot:

The color definitely changes in the light. The Bronco has definitely been worth the wait since reserving it on 7/25/20!
