Hello All,
I was in the midst of deciding which color to change my order to for 2023. I hadn't communicated it to the dealer yet as I hadn't made the firm decision. On Monday 10/3 I received an email from Ford that the dealer had submitted my order for 2023, without talking to me. I emailed them and said that i want to change my color to Azure Gray Metallic. The sales manager said that he was on vacation and would change it when got back. about 2 hours after he sent that email, Ford sent me the "Scheduled for Production" email (week of November 7th. Exciting news! Yes, but the wrong color.
I emailed that to the sales manager and rep immediately and the rep said he had to wait for the Sales manager. I went to the dealer this morning and they say that it is locked in their system. They called an Area Manager who also said that it cannot be changed once scheduled.
I do not know if i have a VIN yet or not.

Has anyone been in this situation? Is is possible to change? Are there words that I need to use or someone to whom i need to get this request to? I read somewhere on 6G that someone was able to change their color after scheduling.
Help! Thanks. @Laura Anything you can think of?

I was originally AntiMatter Blue in 2021. I had to change to Carbonized Gray in 2022. I am trying to change it to Azure Gray Metallic for 2023.

well another way to go about this, even though you have waited how long? I myself waited 25 months. You could sell it ASAP as you too delivery to minimize miles. I am sure you could make $10,000 or more and then re-order as soon as the sale. You may end up taking delivery and see that the original color you reserved was good along! Why did you wait to the very end? Piss poor planning my friend.

If it was pulled for build on 10/3, it is a MY22. I don’t think they started MY23 until 10/6

Just saw that they pulled for build after. I would have to dig regarding the change over date for sure. And if it is scheduled for build you would have a VIN. Can you attach any of the correspondence from Ford?

It is Scheduled for build, so that must mean VIN. I was thinking that there might be a span of time between them. Order confirmed 10/3/22. Scheduled for build email 10/5/22. Build week of 11/7/22
The timing is due to me checking colors and trying to get a good read on Azure Gray Metallic (very hard to do!). I was planning to come in to the dealer this week, when they submitted my order. I think they thought that they were doing me a favor. I knew that I had until November 21st, so I thought I was ahead of the game. I'm thinking the sales manager converted it before he left for vacation... It is what it is now. Maybe I will love the Carbonized Gray. Yes I could always sell it and wait again. That doesn't sound like fun though. Live and Learn. There is no time like the present!

The only way to get Ford to change your color is to pick one, not get scheduled for 400 days, and get bumped to another model year where that color doesn’t exist anymore. Presto, change-o!

They are already on your change of color plan. Lost out on the AMB in MY21

I've always heard you can't make changes once you have a VIN, but I was talking to @Mikes2021Bronco yesterday, and he was under the impression you can, since color isn't tied to a VIN. I'm sorry to say I don't have a straight answer for you right now. You could try the Bronco Support Team (800-334-4375 or chat) for an answer, but the dealer would be the one who would have to change it.

My dealer said color change was something you could change even if you had a VIN.
He said they can actually try to change anything, but some selections get greyed out, and even if the computer allows a change it could kick you out of production. I was told color would not kick you out.

I spoke to Bronco Support (thanks for the number Laura!) they said that a VIN means most likely that nothing can be changed. They said to call the Sales Manager and talk to him as the dealer has to be the one to change it, if it is even possible. I doubt that it will be, but I will ask nicely and see if we can make it happen.

I'm glad you could talk to someone but I'm sorry it wasn't an answer you probably wanted. Fingers crossed!

As you all have learned, the VIN has nothing to do with the color of the car, but I'm wondering if he can get his color changed before the window sticker is generated, which won't be until the end of October, at the earliest.

I decoded my VIN the other day and it has a lot of information, but the color wasn't one of the items. Just the company code, type of vehicle, trim level, engine size, model year, assembly plant, and sequence number.

Perhaps there's a sweet spot between getting a VIN and having a window sticker produced, and that time is now! Hoping for the best for you... 👍

I would definitely ask for the PERSON or PERSONS who actually sits behind the computer that has access to WBDO. They are the ones who can truly try to get it changed for the customer. The salesman most likely does not have access to WBDO. I may be wrong..

I will check with my dealer tomorrow, and report back, but I do believe it has been done numerous times in the last 16 months, obviously it needs to be done ASAP,

It's definitely worth a shot. Especially considering his circumstances: the original color on his order was denied because it was discontinued. I'd use that as leverage. It could be pointless, but then again, it might help. Never know until you try. But as you indicated, he should find the person that can affect the change and ask REAL nice. 😁

Rooting for you, @TBoneBronc!

I will be at the dealer bright and shiny in the morning! Crossing all of my fingers and toes. My last communication with the Sales Manager was that he "would change it when he gets back". Maybe he can make good on that promise. We shall see. Yes perhaps this is a sweet spot prior to window sticker generation.

My dealer said they have the ability to access the screen that allows you to build a bronco or manage an existing order. He told me that there are things that are greyed out that you just can't change, but there are changes you can make, and color was one of them. It definitely has to be done beef the window sticker is generated.
