It's a chilly one, Nation -- checking in to see if this big storm is affecting anyone yet.

To those who need to be outside, traveling, or doing storm prep or cleanup, stay warm and thanks for keeping us all good!

Grew up in Wisconsin and love it, I'm old and lost my antifreeze, so the south-west is my home now. People here have no concept what cold is.

I plow neighbors drives, a gift of fun. I have a JD 1025R so it’s fun to do. Got them done yesterday. Let it snow!

Yeah, we're on the western edge of this arctic blast, it's cold but really no biggie here. Heck, I used a leaf blower for snow removal this morning. At 7,500ft it's icy here, so our couple daily hikes for the dogs keep us in cleats all winter.

Recently, wind has been very annoying. Several storms at 60 to 100+ winds have the local utility cutting off power 4 days last month. We had a portable generator that saved our freezer & fridge stuff. We've now upgraded our home's backup power with generator inlet plug and battery kit. We're also running the pellet stove more 'cause those utility folks are getting more proud of their electric & gas rates too..

Looks like you do what I do, back feed my breaker panel from a portable generator. Those batteries look like you plug cords into them directly?
No salt tram towers were harmed in the making of this post...

Expecting precipitation starting this evening, central Arkansas should get a mix of sleet and snow with a tad bit of freezing rain. Probably won't get above freezing until Tuesday.

Did you have any issues with the storm?

No issues here. As of this morning I think there were only 5k outages reported in the state, South Arkansas got more sleet than freezing rain. I’m staying off the roads though. Thought about getting out to go play today but we got a lot more sleet and snow overnight and it’s just not worth the effort.

Sure, battery kit has AC outlets but we’ll plug it’s 30a outlet into the panel’s inlet to power the house. Plan to run gas generator during the day and battery at night.

Original idea was to ‘peak shave’ by running house on battery during our utility’s peak rate time 5 - 9pm weekdays and back to grid during off-peak time.

Turns out that won’t save $s since we’d recharge battery with grid power. The inverter’s DC to AC & AC back to DC inefficiencies more than offset the utility’s peak rate difference..

Cheers

As always in central VA, the media started the week calling it the storm of all storms, declaring it would be 16-18 inches of snow then sleet. Three days later it dipped to 3-4 inches and freezing rain. Grocery stores were still cleaned out so somebody made money last week!

Wishing we'd actually get some of that snow y'all are talking about. Western Colorado is about as dry as a meeting that should have been an email.

Not quite the 2002 Patriots' "Snow Bowl" (blizzard) win over Oakland Raiders, but the Patriots "won" in heavy snow. I'd say, as much as they "won," they survived.

10+ so far another half foot before 6 am.

7 degrees slight wind, had tractor block heater plugged in, anti gel in fuel, started right up. I was dressed for it, including my snowmobile helmet, heated gloves, hahah everyone feels bad for me out there plowing but I am warm as toast. Next year putting a cab on for sure.
