It's a chilly one, Nation -- checking in to see if this big storm is affecting anyone yet.

To those who need to be outside, traveling, or doing storm prep or cleanup, stay warm and thanks for keeping us all good!

Beautiful dog!

He was hanging out at the SLC Animal Shelter and figured he'd come home with me. He's really great company and rides well in the Bronco. Except that one time on Flat Iron Mesa where he climbed on my back to look out the front windshield, haha!

Beautiful dog, once we get below freezing I am going to have to fight with our Pyr/Mastiff mix to come in the house. It is the only time I see her not panting. she loves the mud and rain too. normally she has white feet.

It looks like a large area is going to be affected one way or another by Fern. 😐
Yall are taking a beating from the low temps and snow. So, hopefully yall get a reprieve soon. But I feel like this may be a true Michigan winter yall are having. Maybe not. Stay warm!!

We've got it easy, by me at least. I shoveled earlier and while I wouldn't want to stay out forever, I didn't even have to bundle because it's not windy. No exploding trees or nothin'.

I'm sure waiting is the worst part for you and the crews. May the poles stay standing and the branches/ice off the lines!

Thats good to hear, keep it low key!!

Wait..
So, the exploding trees are strictly for the UP?
Just another reason to visit I suppose... πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

And thank you, just standing by. We got some good news today on a TVA conference call. So if anyone on here has power through TVA.. Im sure there is a few, you're in good hands. And things are very positive for the power generation and transmission side.

I do not miss the days when I was an outage manager. Getting shipped all over the country to do storm work, mostly ice storms it was brutal. 20 hour days and no OT sometimes for weeks.

Expecting precipitation starting this evening, central Arkansas should get a mix of sleet and snow with a tad bit of freezing rain. Probably won't get above freezing until Tuesday.

I actually just heard on the radio while driving that DTE Energy sent a bunch of trucks from Michigan down your way in anticipation of help that may be needed with the snow/potential ice. Fingers crossed Mother Nature changes her mind and this winter storm shifts in a major way. Stay safe! :-)

What I hate most is having to put the ladder up to the roof to broom the snow and ice off the solar panels. πŸ˜’ Then I have to climb up the wind turbine tower to knock the ice off the fan blades and πŸ˜” make sure the turbine generator has sufficient anti-freezeπŸ˜– . All this to do my part to fight global warming! πŸ˜–

Nawwwww....no solar panels or wind turbine. But it'll be a pleasure to fire up my Badlands and just drive out of whatever the plows have heaped up in the streets! 😜

@Laura, I have no idea about any of this snow and ice and cold temps you speak of. I am choosing to put my creative brain to work and leaving these 1º temps behind (don't even get me started about "real feel temps! lol). Right now, in my mind, I am relaxing by a pool somewhere sunny and tropical with a fun cocktail. A girl can dream, right??? 😎

Probably headed to the southern portion of the state. I believe all that is expected there is freezing rain which is not good for power lines.

Send snow! Nothing here 😐
Back in November I was driving through Idaho and Oregon when an unexpected blizzard hit the Oregon passes. Oregon DOT was caught completely off guard. We made it up the pass but coming down the otherside they closed almost 60 miles of freeway so we had to traverse mountain country back roads. The Bronco did great! Though every alternate road we found was closed and we just about gave up to go back then head west which would have added atleast 12 hours to our trip. Finally we saw an ODOT worker in a truck when I got him to roll down his window he said we could turn around and ignore the last Road Closed barriers "you'll be able to make it in that , we just don't want people getting stuck out there" it took us through some National Parks roads and some "snow games" parks whatever that means. The snow games roads atleast had tall steaks with reflectors that helped me spot turns through the snow that my wipers could not keep up with as well as the frozen fog. I will say 2 things from a safety standpoint the (factory) navigation display was likely a life saver as I could spot and plan the turns and switchbacks with its Arial road display as I had little to no visibility between the snow and frozen fog. Additionally I have the wolfbox videocameras for security and recording adventures an its night vision was better then my naked eye at times and its display being the review mirror I could use it while keeping my eyes on the road. Ultimately taking my time and being safe combined with the Broncos abilities and the tech we had we got through our adventures and ultimately home safe. It was also comforting that we keep food, water, blankets gloves, running boards ect in/on the Bronce we could have stopped and survived the night if needed and we would also be able to get unstuck if needed. I also filled the gas up at the first sign of snow so we could have kept the heater going if needed.

I'm good with flat roads in snow and ice but mountains in snow and ice is another story. Glad you were prepared and got home safely

I'm prepped; plenty of gas for the generator and diesel for the tractor.

We had a beaver move in last fall. He has one 50-foot sycamore pretty well chewed at the base ready to drop it soon. His pond is frozen over now, so he's sheltering-in-place for the moment πŸ˜‚. I hope he calculated in the frozen precipitation predicted for tomorrow and the tree drops where he wants it to. The last tree he cut he used the wind to drop it between four other trees around it. Amazing.

Yeah, we're on the western edge of this arctic blast, it's cold but really no biggie here. Heck, I used a leaf blower for snow removal this morning. At 7,500ft it's icy here, so our couple daily hikes for the dogs keep us in cleats all winter.

Recently, wind has been very annoying. Several storms at 60 to 100+ winds have the local utility cutting off power 4 days last month. We had a portable generator that saved our freezer & fridge stuff. We've now upgraded our home's backup power with generator inlet plug and battery kit. We're also running the pellet stove more 'cause those utility folks are getting more proud of their electric & gas rates too..
