Some of us have installed the TrailRax roof and side racks and others have questions on it. There are few conversations going around in a few different threads. This is the thread to post in if you have questions about the rack/side racks or installation of the rack/side racks.

You can remove the first two rows of your top with this rack on.

Have you thought about mounting rear amber lights, for those really dusty trails to avoid those behind you getting to close or to far?
Yes! we use Heretic BA-2's Amber flood lights mounted under the Extrusion in the rear which fits nice and flush. Then we wired it and snuck it in between the rear part of the hardtop and the middle panel. We then snuck the wire down the roll cage and connected it to the purple (I think) wire that is attached to the AUX switches in the rear. This was done on Frank's Fronco Bronco @fronc can give some details!

(This post is a duplicate of one I made at Bronco6g):

I'm looking at a Yakima Rocketbox 16 (92-inch) cargo box. I believe this has Yakima's proprietary under-box clamp installation system (I've asked for details). After watching a Yakima installation video, I see that the clamps slide forward and back, and should adjust and affix to the Trailrax crossrails. At least, it looks that way

Can anybody confirm or correct me on the compatibility with the Yakima cargo box system and the Trailrax? I drive the Badlands Sas 4-Dr MIC with the full-length Trailrax with wind deflector and Heretic 40-inch lights.

If the yakima product has a clamping mechanism for their mounting it should work with ours, it would be the same idea of clamping but instead of their cross bars, it is on ours, our cross bars are 2x1" rectangles for reference. If we can help further, let us know!

Love the rack finally got it installed, about 2 weeks ago. My only problem was that the coating is peeling off in a spot. Nothing a little automotive paint can't fix.

A new Yakima or Thule is a bit pricey for me, but I found a Craigs List one off a Mercedez (sedan rack) for cheap. (I only need it a few times a year.) This had a different slot system, using four long M6 threaded bolts which enter the (Mercedes) crossbeam slot via a removable side cap. With a little grinding of the heads, they fit the TRMR Series 10 slot fine. Once correctly positioned, the roof box sits down on them and is then secured from inside the box with plastic hardware and M6 (hand) turn knobs. I'd rather not remove and re-install the cross bar to insert the M6 bolts every time, so I got a few stainless T-nuts, four stainless M6 threaded rods (250mm), and some stainless lock nuts. The stainless M6 t-nuts are in the TRMR slot permanently. I screw the threaded rods into them, then secure them in their (proper) places with the rubber washers and lock nuts and mount the cargo box onto them. That way I can remove the vertical mounting rods when not on a major trip, and I don't snag any car wash gear.

Speaking of the car wash, I have found that the rinse does not chase the wash product out of the front crossbar sections very well (I have the Heretic 40-inch light on a 4DR hardtop), and soapy water trickles down after I leave. My car wash chain ($30/month for unlimited washes!) has a clean-cloth station outside, so I just take a little time to wipe the truck clean of droplets.

Getting back to roof mounts, all my crossbars have four 1/4-20 stainless T-nuts in them, permanently, and two have a pair of M6 t-nuts (for the cargo box), also. I have an assortment of 1/4-20 threaded rods, different lengths, 1/4-20 lifting ("eye") bolts, etc which I use in different combinations to secure recovery boards (6-inch rods for those), tie-down boxes or other gear as needed. Very flexible, and so far, works.

Look into this, TrailRax, and test them out. Could make a nice accessory package.

I completed my half rack with pack rack and It looks great in my opinion . It was a little more work than I thought it would be but very doable . I just drove from Michigan to NYC and I have to say I noticed a significant increase in wind noise . I think it’s the side racks. I don’t have my rotopax on them yet. I just installed some new kicker front and rear speakers for the trip on my mid package badlands but to be honest , the noise was so load I didn’t listen to them for the whole 10 hour trip. I’ve got to figure this out before I do a west trip in June.

I ordered several paks of t-nuts, washers and bolts from McMaster Carr and have them installed on all the cross bars for later use as you do to avoid the partial dis-assembly later.

I was thinking of going this route but I don't need to add any extra wind noise.

Consider adding 1/4-20 x1" eyebolts ("lifting bolts" in some catalogs) in your collection, along with a few ratchet straps of varying strengths and lengths. There are eye-nuts but I think you'd need either hammerhead bolts or threaded studs + T-nuts + locking nuts, complicating things.

Finally got around to mounting the ROAM rugged case on the roof rack. I only really want it to carry those things I’ll probably not need but rather have and the rarely used items. Tool set, blanket, air pump, tire repair kit and the like. I have the nice drawer in the rear that I had been keeping these items in but am thinking of removing it to reclaim the space. Will have to let the old lady weigh in on it. This will probably kill the already poor mileage :-)

On my 2dr the panels come off as if it wasn't there. No issues at all.

I get the first 2 rows off pretty easy. You have to slide the back row off to the side.

My noise comes from the sides and it is not the side racks causing it. It seems like it comes from the cut out area of the seal on the sides.

I’m not sure what the purpose is of it. Maybe expansion and contraction from temp changes?

I’m wondering how much more the wind noise will really increase with RotoPax’s and a Roam box on top ?

I haven’t added a foam box or rotopax yet.

I had someone else drive my bronco and I rode in the back. Pretty sure the spot in my pic is where the noise comes from. I didn’t have the noise there until I added the rack.

Thanks for the feedback SlashRacer ! When I get back to MI I’ll hone in on that area to see what I can do to mitigate some of the wind noise.

I have a roam box and recovery boards on top and Roto-paks on both sides. The only real increase in wind noise I have encountered was in about 25 mph head/crosswind. I have noticed about one MPG less when fully loaded.

I played around with some foam in it today. Not the cause of the noise.
