Some of us have installed the TrailRax roof and side racks and others have questions on it. There are few conversations going around in a few different threads. This is the thread to post in if you have questions about the rack/side racks or installation of the rack/side racks.

You can remove the first two rows of your top with this rack on.

I know there is a whole science behind packaging and what not… but I personally felt like everything was packaged very well.

They used that expanding foam packaging material—don’t know what it’s called… but you smack the bag to mix the reagents together, shove it in a box, and then quickly close/seal it up while chemicals mix and create this expanding foam that fills all of the cracks. I wouldn’t have guessed that it was damaged in shipping, but also I saw the FedEx driver literally kick it off the back of his truck when he delivered it… so… who knows.
Ahh probably the shipping gorillas.
I wish IAG would do that with their packaging

Great to see additional installation breakdowns. Interesting how the different orders arrive in different conditions. I am curious if TrailRax is having any issues getting the orders out due to the volume of orders? Maybe packaging is in need of some reinforcement?
This was an early on issue but with the state of the art Sealed air packaging solution, 95% of our orders arrive undamaged. Of course you will have those delivery truck drivers that are not having a good day taking it out on your order. If this just so happens, please reach out to us and we will get you taken care of. Although our shipping providers do not represent us in the proper way, we are happy to step in and make sure the products arrive in the best condition possible.

If you so happen to order something from us, common rule with any package, if there is any damage especially holes in the box. The best to do is, refuse the package, have them send it back to us, and we will inspect it and get a new one out to you. When this happens, the responsibility is on the shipping service.

We would be happy to look into this and see if it is a possible option as an upgrade kit! We definitely can do a custom order for you if you decide you really want that option. But giving it it's own part number and setting it up on the site will take a bit.

Awesome!! I’ll keep an eye on the website and see if that’s something you guys end up adding. If not, I will send an email over to the [email protected] mailbox in a month or two once we get closer to spring.

No. I just have the Heretic light bar, but I went with Diode Dynamics for my ditch and fog lights . However, I have Rough Country cube lights and slim light bar integrated in my rear bumper.
That looks great. How do you like that RC rear bumper? Any issues with fit and finish?

I was curious if you have any problems in a automatic car wash with these racks ?
I have not had trouble in the car wash with my rack. I did take all of the external equipment (traction boards, Rotopax) off the sides and went through just fine.

Thanks for the offer! The side rails weren’t THAT far bent out of shape that they needed to be returned, and I was able to correct it fairly easily with a few whacks of a rubber mallet. It’s all good now, and the rack is awesome.

The one thing I would like to see is an “addon kit” or “upgrade kit” for the Bronco half-rack. It would be awesome to have the full rack for the winter ski season… and then switch over to the half rack for the summer. That would enable someone to install something like the Bestop Sunrider/Skyrider or just to simply have easier access to install/remove your hard top panels during the warmer months. Since many of the pieces and components between the full-rack and the half-rack are the same, it would be nice to just be able to buy the half-rack’s side rails and windscreen and reuse the mounting hardware and extrusions from the full-rack.

If I’m being honest I don’t think it would be that popular of an option, so I would completely understand if it doesn’t make sense from a business perspective. BUT, it is something I would love to see. Or if you guys are willing to do a one-off for me personally, let me know. Thanks!

This sounds like a great idea. I'd like to go 1 step further although maybe a little too far out there.
If you made the front rails removeable fairly easily to just leave the rear half rack with the side racks attached as @RagnarKon mentioned, could you possibly use the remaining side rack and half rack as a structure to attach a garage ceiling hoist? Actually use your rack to as an attachment point?
A lot of the aftermarket systems to hoist your rear clamshell use straps on the inside which I feel can damage your seals. If the side racks are already under both sides of the clamshell so you would be lifting up from the bottom plus the connections to the cutouts on the top of the clamshell. Could that possibly work? Could it support the top hanging from the ceiling?

Sorry, not sure why this crossed my mind.😆

I'm about to push the order button on the TrailRax roof rack and Pak Rax, however, I'm not 100% on whether or not this is the solution for me. It would be great to hear from experienced owners. Here are my use cases:

1. Hauling / storage of packout boxes / gear
2. Hauling of kayaks
3. Hauling of fuel and water (i.e. Rotopax)
4. Mounting / hauling traction boards and recovery tools

I have no immediate plans for a rooftop tent, we've made accommodations to sleep inside the Bronco or a ground tent.

Question: based on my intended uses, is the TrailRax "overkill" for the job? And, by the way, I'm not opposed to overkill / over building. :)
That side rack is just begging for some "FORD" script al la Raptor style

So it occurred to me I had mounted the windscreen backwards, and therefore the TrailRax logo was backwards. Does it really matter? No... not at all. But it gave me something to do on an otherwise gloomy Sunday.

And guess what I found that isn't stainless...

Great point, our original prototypes back when we were designing and prototyping for a year before it came out, the multi piece design on the side panels are a great initial thought but severely affect the load rating and cause shear points. the reason we have a verified load rating increase is due to the decisions we made in the design. As awesome as it would be to transition a full rack to a half rack, it would sacrifice a lot of usability and function of the full rack which is why we decided not to. Hope this makes sense!

Yes unfortunately the only T nuts we can source was zinc plated and have found that once used they do not hold up well. for the past 8 months we have been trying to source stainless steel versions of those. We apologize for this. If the hardware gets worse, please email us at [email protected] and we will get you taken care of. Rest assured, every other piece of hardware in the kit is stainless steel and will not see rusting.

Thanks for the offer! Those T nuts aren't load bearing so I'm not too concerned about it if I'm being honest. At the end of snow season I intend to remove the rack and I'll shoot some spray paint at the T nuts. If they're too far gone at that point I'll reach out, but I suspect they'll be salvageable.

Everything else on the rack is holding up really well, including all the load bearing components, so no complaints.

Have you thought about mounting rear amber lights, for those really dusty trails to avoid those behind you getting to close or to far?

I have thought about this but the wiring is somewhat difficult being that the hard top is removable and there is no factory channel or path to get the wiring to the roof without drilling through it. Definitely have some ideas, but nothing in motion at this point.

(This post is a duplicate of one I made at Bronco6g):

I'm looking at a Yakima Rocketbox 16 (92-inch) cargo box. I believe this has Yakima's proprietary under-box clamp installation system (I've asked for details). After watching a Yakima installation video, I see that the clamps slide forward and back, and should adjust and affix to the Trailrax crossrails. At least, it looks that way

Can anybody confirm or correct me on the compatibility with the Yakima cargo box system and the Trailrax? I drive the Badlands Sas 4-Dr MIC with the full-length Trailrax with wind deflector and Heretic 40-inch lights.
