Bikini or Safari

I just got a 23 bronco and I have been looking for a Bikini or Safari top that actually seals up to the windshield frame. So everything I have found has a gap between the "top" and windshield.

Here are some examples in other vehicles

Nice!!!!! No serious rain here yet but that looks awesome! That's a lot drier than I would have thought and my Jeep would get far more wet than that with it's Bikini on..

Thanks for the video!

Oh and for those worried about the puddle shown in post #36 you could always pick up a collapsible boat cover pole for use when you know you'll be parked for a while in the wet stuff..

Something cheap like this would do the trick. I had one in my Jeep that I used a few times and it worked great..

Boat Cover Pole

Or just search for a 'boat cover adjustable height pole'

Someone asked if the fabric stretches.
NO it does NOT stretch. (well yes but < 1%)
Thus water pooling on it/in it will not stretch the material.

Also version 4.x will not pool like that, as the front section has the new mounts.

Always feel free to reach out with any questions, happy to chat or give info.

I would be super intrested in a bracket that hugs up the windshield frame. The big issue I see with the current offereings that don't seal up to the windshield frame. I like to take the tops off when I go wheeling to keep the top out of harms way. The trails I run are supper tight so going up a rock can throw into a tree on the back corners very easily. I took my windows out of my eb last wheeling trip but left the top on and of cours the rear bow slide across a tree. Took like 3 hours to get the dang thing straight again :(. But then it always rains so your slowly crawling (<3mph) through downpours. So with a gap between the top and windshield you will get a steady stream on water running right on to the dash. I know on the jeeps they will short out with water running overt the electronics, the screens most importantly, and haveing been under the dash of the bronco I would assume it would be the same.

I have been loooking for a factory soft top to basically cut up and use the header and top part. Then sew some straps to it to hold it down. I basically do the same thing currently with my Tj and EB. We take the soft top off completly then unroll the Bikini top from the header slap it on the windsheild frame fasten the buckles inside the cab and strap the back straps to the roll bar or in the bed and your on your way.

Please watch my 52-miles in the rain video. Even stopped at multiple stoplights, and after 52 miles there were ZERO drops of rain on the dash.

Even another user, who is in Seattle, confirms no rain on Dash and he parks his car at stores for some time in the rain.

I've had mine on for a few weeks now and have driven in the rain several times.. No changes to my previous post in another thread re: water ingress, or in this case, a lack thereof. The dash stays dry, dry, dry..

My previous comments on it protecting the dash during rain etc:

https://thebronconation.com/accesso...-rain-with-only-a-bimini-t.20462/#post-309433

I also went on an off-road and overnight camping trip with it last weekend. While there was no rain, I did not have any issues whatsoever with the bikini. There was lots of low hanging branches and brush and the Bikini held up with no damage.

My trip post here:

https://thebronconation.com/trails-trips-n.64/maiden-off-road-trip-in-bronco-photo-heavy-t.20501/

I did use a Rain Gear Trail Cover for overnight but that was mainly to keep condensation out of the rear cargo area where I had stuff stored and to keep critters out.

The interior got dusty on the trail but that is not the fault of the Bikini..

Overall I am 100% satisfied and happy with the protection the Bikini offers in the wet stuff..

Quick update after about 10 more days in the wet stuff and ruining with the hard top off and the bikini only..

No issues before today other than what's to be expected. However, today I had to be inside a buisness for a few hours while the wet stuff fell..

I came out, and as expected, the seats were wet, the insides of the doors were wet etc. Not an issue for me and totally expected. The dash was dry..

I had some water pooling on the top (expected) so I pushed up and sent the bulk of it to the rear seat and back cargo area of the Bronco. I use to do the same with my Jeeps..

There were still small amounts of water pooling at the front that I was not able to remove so I tired directing that water to the front door areas and it worked, sorta.

Started driving off and some of the water that had pooled by the front, and that I had been unable to get off, ran through the gap in the front of the bikini, down onto the sun visors and then down onto the dash.. I carry towels so not a big deal and I quickly wiped the dash down.

After close to a month of running the bikini only, I did finally get some water on the dash but that was mainly due to an extended stay inside a business with the rain coming down moderately..

I really wish there was an option for a front hook and latch type of attachment.. I'd 110% pay a lot more for something like that but I get that the design of the Bronco prob makes that impossible..

As it stands, you are not going to do any better than this bikini. For regular driving and for short stops you won't get any water on the dash. In my case today, I had an extended indoor stay and I did get water, quite a bit actually, on the dash.

I am still 100% pleased with the bikini just thought I'd update after my experience today...

@raqball

Very much continue to appreciate your 100% honest opinion, as always. You are a true sasquatch, and one of few, if not the only to brave the elements. Especially in one of the rainiest cities! We did run our bikini through a 52-mile rain test (VIDEO) and it performed w/o a single drop on the dash, just as you have confirmed.

We also agree that Ford did not create a very inviting front window edge. There is no passthrough, no mount points and really nothing that can be done for a "quick install" bimini. We've done the best we could do with a quick install bimini, and thanks for proving it works.

The only other option would be to fabricate a front leading edge mounting plate, but looking at the product as a whole, that defeats the open-air bimini and we then start to create a full soft top.... we never know, that may be a future product, however shipping will likely kill us. Our topless roof racks we sell are in 48" boxes and our discounted shipping on those hit's us at the $30 mark, ouch!

We didnt expect folks to run our bikini 24/7 and parked in the rain, but thanks for proving that it can be done !!

Have you considered having a grommet installed in the middle of the bikini, and then attaching a drain hose for when you park for extended periods? Or even a modified drain plug like this. So when you park you just attack a quick hose?

  • Here are some tips:
    • Park at an uphill slant. This will make sure the water is collected toward the rear
    • Carry a bailing cup or small siphon pump to quickly extract the water, like below
    • Move to a sunnier city, like we did (Born and raised in Bellevue/WA) :)

Keep enjoying it, and always good to hear honest feedback, it what keeps driving the product and how we got to version 4.x in the first place! Thank you, thank you!

I had not considered a modified drain plug like the one you show, I might look into that. The bikini is so quiet that I don't want to do anything that might cause a flap, flap, flap. This is one of the few bikini's I've had that does not flap , flap, flap at freeway speeds.

I am also considering something like an oversized sponge or shammy, or two, and just toss them in the glove box or under the pass side seat. My only concern / issue where I need to soak up, or remove excess water, is the front portion, right before the gap. A large / oversized sponge or shammy might work to soak up what's left at the front area after my push up move.

I did have a pump, kind of like the one like you show, in my past Jeep for water pooling but IMO it was easier and quicker to just push up on the bikini and let the pool of water get pushed to the back and out the rear sides and rear of the bikini. I do need to rethink that with the Bronco as no matter what, I think there will always be a tiny gap at the front.

Forecast for the the next 10-days is rain and more rain... Boo! and double boo!

@raqball.

Next time you park it in the rain for an extended period. Can you please post a picture of that rain that is on your top? I'm sure it all depends on how you are parked (uphill/downhill/slanted) but we'd like to see more on how it gathers so we can make future enhancements!

PS... .we just released version 4.5 !!
