My Nothing Fancy 2023 Badlands 2dr Build

Mar 13, 2024

This will be my nothing fancy 2023 Badlands 2dr build where I can keep track of all the modifications and adjustments I make to the vehicle. If you are looking for a lifted monster with 37's or above then this build will not be for you. At some point I might swap the 33" (285/70r17) for 34"'s (285/75r17) or 35"s (35x12.5R17).

A little back story. I am a long time Jeep owner going all the way back to the early 80's with the CJ 5 and 7 series, then I had a YJ, TJ and a few JK's along the way. This is my daily driver and my off-roading is mainly limited to easy and moderate trails. Nothing crazy and no extreme rock crawling.

I've always been a fan of the older Broncos but never owned one. When I was in the market for a new vehicle this time, I did briefly consider a 2dr Jeep JL but really wanted the Bronco!

Purchased on 3/8/2024. It's a stock'ish Badlands 2dr model with the only factory adds being:
  • 10-speed Automatic Transmission
  • Modular Front Bumper
  • Hot Pepper Red Paint
  • Keyless Entry
  • Towing Package

Here are my immediate plans for the Bronco:

Future plans:

  • 285/75r17 or 35x12.5R17 tires which would bump me up to about a 34" or 35" from the stock 33" and still fit the stock sized wheels I ordered w/o any other modifications
  • ARB on-board Air Compressor or Power Tank
  • 12" Infotainment upgrade package. I wanted the 12" screen from the start
https://infotainment.com/shop/inter...ttribute_pick-your-bezel-color=Sinister+Black

I am sure there are other things I am missing and forgetting but I'll add them as I go. I'll post up photos of the mods and adds once they are completed.

For now, a photo of the day it was purchased.

Wolfbox contacted me on another forum and is sending me a G900 Pro dash cam / mirror for free.. It comes with a rear camera but my plan is to mount that up front as a trail camera..

I should have it next week, then I need to get it slapped in and figure out how / where to mount the 'rear' camera as a front trail camera..

Hopefully, this will get me some awesome trail footage from the dash cam and allow me to easily have a front trail camera as well..

Camera systems are one of the products I'll be looking for at SEMA in a few weeks.
Mostly for some of my fleet vehicles. The big boys don't offer much in the way of cameras

I am hoping this works out. I am sure the dash cam function will be fine for getting some on the trail videos but I am really hoping the rear camera that comes with it can be used as a trail camera up front..

Got the rear camera of the Wolfbox G900 Pro dash cam installed the other day as a front trail camera.

I was limited on the placement of the 'rear' camera as a front trail camera due to my winch and winch mounting plate. This was the best spot I could find for it. It's, for the most part, tucked up close to the front bumper but I can see where if someone does extreme rock crawling, where they are bashing and scraping the front bumper, that the placement could be an issue. I am not an extreme rock crawler and have no plans to be one..

'Rear' Camera placement when mounted as a front trail camera. I drilled holes into the bottom lip of the front bumper and mounted the camera bracket there. It's secure and sturdy.

The rearview mirror / front dash cam.

tempImageMgsw6i.png

The camera quality is stellar. Not sure if the videos I will link below show the true quality of them as they will be compressed but both camera offers clear and crisp views.

I need to adjust the front dash cam to show less of the hood and I might need to adjust the front trail camera downward a little. I won't really know on the front trail camera angle until I get off road with it and test the angle of it on trails.

The system is voice controlled and you can say things like "Show Front Camera" and it will show video from the front camera on the rearview mirror. When I want to see the front trail camera I say " Show Rear Camera" and it's shows the front trail cameras video on the rearview mirrors screen.

There are a ton of settings and options you can change via the rearview mirror menu system. It came with a 128GB SD card and connects via wifi to download video clips. It also came with a GPS puck that can be installed if you want location and speed displayed but I did not install it as I do not need nor want that information..

Here are 2 short videos showing footage from both cameras.

I might try and move the camera up a little.

I ordered this license plate camera bracket. It's specifically for the G900 Pro 'rear' camera:

My plan is to either mount it via screws or weld the bracket here in this location:

IMG_1033.jpeg

Then mount the camera to the license plate bracket. This would give me more protection for the camera if I were to drag or scape the bumper when off-roading..

I should have the bracket Monday and I don't think it will take long to move the camera to the new location..

I'll update once I get it moved..

@raqball, this looks like something I was thinking of adding to my Bronco. silly question for you, if the screen replaces the rearview mirror and you have both cameras facing forward (the "rear" camera mounted to the front and the camera on the back of the mirror) how do you see behind you? does it have a simple mirror mode to use for everyday driving and a switch to turn it on for the trails? Thanks

Edit: also the videos on their web site are using a Bronco is that yours?

In a nutshell, the mirror will act as a normal rearview mirror. To see a live video feed on the rear view mirrors screen I say "Show Front Camera" and it will show the main dash camera video. If I want to see the 'rear' camera that I have set as a front trail camera then I say "Show Rear Camera" and it will display the trail camera video feed on the rearview screen. To turn the screen back off, after viewing the live video feed, I say "Turn Off Screen" and it goes back to being a normal rearview mirror.

If you have either camera, or both via split screen, showing on the rearview mirrors screen then you would not be able to use the rearview mirror to see behind you.

I'd never have the main front dash camera showing on the rearview mirror screen when driving normally so not an issue there. When using the 'rear' camera as a front trail camera, and having it's video displayed on the rearview mirror, I don't think I'd need to use the rearview mirror to see behind me as it would be a limited and temp use of this trail camera to get a better view of the trail ahead that I can't see.

Both cameras will record continuously even when their video is not displayed on the rearview mirror screen.

I honestly have not looked at their product page for the G900 Pro but they have not asked me to provide any video footage so I am guessing the videos are not mine..

One issue worth mentioning is that the rearview mirror is wider than the stock one. In my Bronco the passenger side sun visor will fold all the way forward without issue but the driver side does not. The driver side sun visor makes contact with the rearview mirror, preventing it from folding all the way forward..

Thanks for the information. I did find a video where a bronco owner is reviewing/comparing the 900 and the 900 Pro he has a Carb Grey bronco so I think it might be his footage on the web site. but he did say he got an OEM mount for the mirror and his visors clear the mirror. I don't know looking at the two side by side I kinda like the picture quality of the 900 better than the Pro, maybe that is just how it conveys on camera, but for just a few bucks more the extra features are worth it.

I am not sure why his clears and mine does not as I also have the OEM mirror mount.. Mine is a 2dr and maybe his is a 4dr? Can't see why that would matter but it's all I can think of..

Here are a few images. My visor hits the mirror by about 1/8th of an inch..

A few items on the wish list that I might add before Spring and my camping and off-road trips get back to a bi-weekly event.. I also am considering beefing up my rock rails before a CO trip towards the end of the year.

  • iKamper Disco for cooking up my gourmet (lol) meals while out in the wild
  • Replace my body mounted rock rails with frame mounted version
  • Frame Horn Brackets for my Winch mount
  • Hardwired GMRS radio. I have a handheld and am kind of reluctant to add this since most of my trips are solo.

That's pretty much it. My Bronco, for the most part, is exactly as I want it.

I'll probably add a few things to the TigerMoth camper. For it I am considering adding a better mattress for sleeping and checking on upgrading the exterior light that illuminates the pull out kitchen area to something that's brighter. I will probably add another battery inside the camper as well. It can hold 2 batteries and right now I just have the one.

Did you use frame horn reinforcements?

Nice mounting option! I dig it!

The frame horns for my winch mount are on my to do list.. I need to get it done but keep putting it off.

Which frame horns did you use? I was truly interested in @Tricky Dick offering but he does not make them anymore..
