Mar 13, 2024

This will be my nothing fancy 2023 Badlands 2dr build where I can keep track of all the modifications and adjustments I make to the vehicle. If you are looking for a lifted monster with 37's or above then this build will not be for you. At some point I might swap the 33" (285/70r17) for 34"'s (285/75r17) or 35"s (35x12.5R17).

A little back story. I am a long time Jeep owner going all the way back to the early 80's with the CJ 5 and 7 series, then I had a YJ, TJ and a few JK's along the way. This is my daily driver and my off-roading is mainly limited to easy and moderate trails. Nothing crazy and no extreme rock crawling.

I've always been a fan of the older Broncos but never owned one. When I was in the market for a new vehicle this time, I did briefly consider a 2dr Jeep JL but really wanted the Bronco!

Purchased on 3/8/2024. It's a stock'ish Badlands 2dr model with the only factory adds being:
  • 10-speed Automatic Transmission
  • Modular Front Bumper
  • Hot Pepper Red Paint
  • Keyless Entry
  • Towing Package

Here are my immediate plans for the Bronco:

Future plans:

  • 285/75r17 or 35x12.5R17 tires which would bump me up to about a 34" or 35" from the stock 33" and still fit the stock sized wheels I ordered w/o any other modifications
  • ARB on-board Air Compressor or Power Tank
  • 12" Infotainment upgrade package. I wanted the 12" screen from the start
https://infotainment.com/shop/inter...ttribute_pick-your-bezel-color=Sinister+Black

I am sure there are other things I am missing and forgetting but I'll add them as I go. I'll post up photos of the mods and adds once they are completed.

For now, a photo of the day it was purchased.

looks good, love the Hot Pepper 2 doors

Thanks, I really like the color as well.

My plan is to get the 74weld Stage 1 and the new tie rods installed on Wednesday morning. I have a camping and off-road trip planned for Thursday and Friday.

Ordered the Outback Adventures Trailgater Table.

This will be my last upgrade for a while as my savings account is a wee bit angry with me right now. I need to refeed it some funds and make it happy again! 😂

dang those are serious valve stems. do they help with rapid inflation or just the deflation?

I assume just deflation but I'll def test them out with my Power Tank system once they are in the wheels..

They claim, and I quote, -----> "It’s fast... very fast. You can expect tire deflation from 35 PSI TO 10 PSI IN LESS THAN 15 SECONDS. [Based on a 35” tire]"

Seems like the power tank set up should inflate those puppies pretty quick too then. Keep us posted.

They do appear to help with inflation speed but by how much is hard to gauge. I'd say maybe 10% faster but I only inflated 2 tires since they've been installed.

I had 2 valves that were leaking (these 2 were not tightened down enough by the tire shop, so they leaked) and my pressure went down overnight to 20'ish. I had to inflate those 2 tires so I could get back to the tire shop. I used my Power tank to do it so I only have limited real world use right now.

They do deflate like crazy though! Less than 10 seconds to go from 38 psi down to 20 psi.

They also make deflators that are MUCH easier to install but those do not deflate anywhere even close to these and I doubt those would increase the inflation speed either.

Here is the other, easier install, option that they offer

These are coming out.. I’ve been back to the tire shop 2 times already as they are still leaking. Not sure if the tire shop did not install them correctly or what is going on but I am over it.

They are not leaking a lot but they are still leaking.

I might try their other option but those won’t deflate anywhere even close to what these will.

https://www.apexdesignsusa.com/products/rcv-rapid-connect-valve

Those are also a much easier install.

Bummer as I really liked these RPV’s

Edit: I got the RPV's taken out and regualr valve stems put back in and I ordered the RCV's..

I just want fast and easy air down. I'll report back how the RCV's do.

Ford Accessories is having a 4th of July sale that gives you 25% off... While I do love my power tank set up, I decided to order an ARB Dual for under the hood to free up some space in the Bronco cargo area.

This is an absolute killer price for the ARB dual compressor, the Bronco mounting bracket and an ARB air hose. It's a complete kit..

I also selected to pick it up from a dealer in Portland, Oregon that's about a 10 minute drive from me so no sales tax. Win!

Anyone looking for a used Power Tank set up for a 2dr? I am going to be selling it for more than half off and will post a for sale thread after the ARB is in..

Got the Apex RCV rapid deflators installed. The RCV's are a simple install. Remove valve core and replace with the RCV. I lost about 5 psi per tire when doing the swaparoo.

It's been a week or so since I installed them and no leaking at all. I tried them out when on 2 different trials while at Overland Expo PNW. I did not time the air downs but my guess is I went from 38psi to 20psi in about 15 seconds per tire.

ARB Dual Kit came in so I am going to hit the dealership and pick it up later today.

I'll get it slapped in tomorrow. Going to try and route it to aux switch 6 but I am wiring incompetent so wish me luck.

I am still trying to dial in my air up and air down gear. I am happy with my ARB dual and my rapid deflators but I can never get all 4 tires at the same PSI when airing down or airing back up.

I ordered the Morrflate Airhub, the 4 tire hose kit and an ARB extension. Should be here tomorrow according to tracking. Got something like 25% off with onX Elite discount so I figured why not give the system a try.

https://morrflate.com/shop/morrflat...tion-deflation/air-hub-automagic-air-control/

Airing up and down will def take longer but I hope this system will get all 4 tires to the same PSI when airing up or down.

Have a trip planned for Aug 2nd and 3rd so will be a good test run..

Found a killer deal on a set of front and rear Bilstein 6100's for the Bronco 2dr. $800 for all 4 brand that new in box so I purchased them..

I can then toss my front 1" leveling kit once they arrive and get slapped on.. Figure I'll do the 1.7" for the front and the .8" for the rear. Should keep me level and give a tiny lift to both areas. Plus, they are better shocks than the ones that come stock on the Badlands..

To good of a deal to pass on..

Got the Bilstein 6100's installed today. Better photos in a few days when I hit the trails.

Rough measurements. (from top of wheel to the bottom of fender flare)

Before:
Front: 15" (would be 14" w/o the 1" level kit I had previously installed)
Rear: 16"

After:
Front: 16 1/2"
Rear: 17"

The fronts at clip position #5 gave me about 2 1/2" lift
The rears at clip position #1 gave me about 1"

I got slightly more lift than Bilstein advertises. The Bronco is almost level now and I have about 1/2" of rake. FWIW, I do have about 100 pounds added to the front from my winch, winch mount and ARB Dual.

Also, I found a killer deal on some Falken Wildpeak AT4W in 35x11.5R17. The guy says he has 5 and that they are brand new but he can't return them because he purchased the wrong size. I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow at Discount Tire and the seller is meeting me there with the tires.

After Discount Tire inspects them, makes sure they are legit and that they are in fact brand new, then I'll pay the seller for them and get them mounted. $1,000 cash for all 5 so that's a killer deal. If it ends up happening then I'll just sell my Toyo's..

A few terrible photos for now. I'll try to get better photos when I hit the trails in a few days. I might also have some 35x11.5R17's on by then as well.

Always double check work, especially if a shop does it.. Notice anything missing from the Icon tie rod area in that last photo?

The clamp for the tie rod boot is MIA. I noticed it and zip tied it down.. I am not sweating it as it's a 5 cent zip tie but if water had gotten in there, it could have been ugly.

Yeah I assume they will settle a little. No 2 lifts, even with the exact same parts, will ever be the same due to spring variations etc.. I am happy with it and the rake is not really noticeable. Hopefully the dude selling the 35's shows and is not full of you know what.

The manager at Discount Tire said he'd check them before I pay and make sure they are legit. Do knock off tires even exist? I assume so but who knows..
