Has anyone painted their bead lock trim rings, and how difficult was it? I want to go from grey to cyber orange to match body color.

I’ve seen some powder coat them. I am considering doing that to mine. Unsure if I wanna go Orange or Cactus Grey. Kinda like the idea of the orange.

I painted mine Carbonized Grey to match my Badlands. It’s not difficult but does require proper preparation to get a good result. I purchased 2 rattle cans of base coat color from PaintScratch.com along with 2 cans of Clear Coat.
  • Remove the trim rings using a TP40 socket
  • Use Dawn dishwasher liquid to thoroughly clean the trim rings
  • Use a Scotchbrite pad or steel wool to remove the clear coat finish and get a little “tooth” on the surface
  • Clean with isopropyl alcohol to remove all contamination in preparation for paint
  • Use color agent of choice (paint, PlasiDip, HyperDip etc) and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application
  • Allow for proper drying time & reinstall

Just painted my silver Badlands rings today. Even found a surprise under one of them lol. Four black wheels to the edge and one black with a silver edge on one lol. Rings are still drying and haven't put them back on yet.

Your beauty rings look amazing, nice job! I really like that the rings match your body color. Thanks for the step by step. Certainly cheaper than buying a new set of rings at $700+.

Keep us posted how they hold up. Did you buy the spray paint from a local auto parts store or online? I see a few places online that sell a kit with 3 cans, base color, top coat and clear coat for $90.

I've used that on other wheel applications before, we live on white rock roads and it didn't hold up very well. If it's a pavement queen it would work well and be the best option I think. Went the paint route this time to try.

Will do, I just scuffed the surface with Scotch brite pads, then three coats Behr semi gloss black/primer spray cans. Got three coats from one can.

Interesting - all 5 of mine were silver under the beauty rings. Not sure why Ford didn’t spend the extra $0.25 to paint the full rim and why they skimped out on the edges…

Edit on the Behr paint, it was gloss and not semi-gloss

I've had it on the grill and light rings of my 71' since 2012 and it's been abused and there's one tiny nick it, otherwise it's still flawless. The wheels didn't hold up so good though lol

I’m sure with proper prep, painting them would hold up well. I was lazy and had them powder coated for $200

Waiting for mine to come back from powder coating to match Lightning Blue paint. Just as an aside, since others have mentioned it, all five of mine are raw aluminum color under the rings. So, right now, it looks like it has silver rings (doesn't look bad at all). Can't wait for the color match. Powder should be done in a week.

They are back from powder. So happy!!! The front tow rings were done to match. Also put a grommet on the rear camera post to keep the tire cover from moving to cover the camera.

No pavement queen here. Cape Cod Mass. Sand between the treads. My son's badlands is in the background.
