Yesterday, we kicked off reservations for another Bronco Basecamp, this time at Overland Expo East in Arrington, VA. The expo runs Oct. 4-6, but Basecamp begins on Oct. 3, so you have time to get settled in before our Friday trail drives.

Everyone is welcome with any Bronco, and we will have two Bronco Off-Roadeo Trail Guides there to lead and help on the trails –– @TorgSurv (Blake, from Moab) and @EvMeister11 (Evan, from New Hampshire).

Camping accommodations consist of:
  • your ground/rooftop tent or travel trailer (or, sleep in your Bronco!), or
  • one of our BN-provided glamping tents, complete with queen bed, linens, and more

If you'd like to reserve a spot, you can find the link and more info in the article, Reservations Open for Bronco Basecamp at Overland Expo East 2024!

This thread will be used to help you get there, including packing lists and tips (check out past posts from @raqball, who is on the other side of the country, is an excellent packing list assist, @Kenneth for lots of tips in his frequent trail runs, and @B MIller, who has great reviews on gear and meal prep help on his YT channel).

Ask trail questions, request staff and guests to go track down cool things they see in the expo, show off what you get there, and add pictures from the drives and around camp!

It's a great time with the community, and it's easy to jump in and feel comfortable quickly. The Bronco Nation staff present –– @cam.hunter, Scott, and I –– plus Off-Roadeo guides Blake and Evan, are looking forward to hosting and helping you soon!

@Laura - In terms of supplies for the basecamp itself (fire wood, etc), is there anything we can help with?

Due to a limited number of Broncos Blake and Evan can take, priority has to go to those who have reserved a spot. If we can open the waiting list, we will.

@HEUGE

Starter packing list ideas for glampers
Since you won't have to worry about a tent/tarp/stakes/hammer/bedding, you can get away with focusing mostly on food, lighting, and heating!

Water/Food/Kitchen
  • Water: OEE has potable water on the grounds. Bring refillable water bottles/containers/your own stash of disposable from home. I use rhino-paks with a pour spot, but packs like these Coleman jugs can be easier to dispense.Screen Shot 2024-09-23 at 3.23.53 PM.png
  • Dish washing: I like a collapsible tub for cleaning up after camp cooking. I have one to wash in and one to rinse.
Screen Shot 2024-09-23 at 3.27.15 PM.png
  • Dish soap: I like a biodegradable one like Campsuds.
  • Paper/reusable towels
  • Camp stove: There are no fire pits in the field, so you'll want a heat element. I have a two-burner Eureka, but depending on how much of a cook you like to be/light you want to pack, a JetBoil-type stove may be enough for heating up water for freeze-dried meals/soup/boiling eggs.
Screen Shot 2024-09-23 at 3.32.53 PM.png
  • Coffee supplies -- Bronco Nation will be supplying coffee in the mornings, but if you're like me, you're not waiting for someone else to get it going –– you want it when you want it!
  • Food -- either packed from home/purchased in town or freeze-dried backpacking options. OEE does have food trucks during the day
  • Dishes/utensils/cast iron pan/etc.
  • Cooler

Heat/cooling sources
  • Sleeping bag/additional blankets, depending how you sleep. The tents come with bedding, but the air gets chillier in Oct., of course.
  • You may want to bring additional heating/cooling items, like a fan or a small heater meant for enclosed spaces.

Light/power sources
  • Bring a flashlight/lantern/headlamp for getting around Basecamp and to the restrooms
  • There are no hookups on the field, so either charge your devices in your Bronco on the trail drives, or bring a power bank/solar charger

Recovery gear
  • Radios, shackles, straps, recovery boards, etc. are great to have, but not necessary for this trip. The Bronco Off-Roadeo guides will hand out private channel radios for everyone to use, and they carry recovery gear.
  • Tools are also recommended to carry, but you'll find many helpful members of the community will share, should you need something you don't own.
  • First aid kit

Past that, it's all the things that make you comfortable: toiletries, layered clothing, boots, rain jacket, camp chair/table, etc.!

@Laura - I'm also camping separate but interested in the trail ride. Totally get the priority going to Basecampers but how will I know? Should I just drive up to basecamp prior to the ride to see if I make the cut?

Hey Bro72nco, my apologies, but we will not be able to open the waiting list for these drives. However, you are more than welcome to come enjoy the other aspects of Bronco Basecamp, including the hang-outs by the fires and time with the guests there.

@Laura - I tried reaching out to @TorgSurv using messages, but haven't received a response. I signed up for the Friday trail ride, but won't be arriving until Friday morning. The gates won't be open, so I'll need to coordinate a meetup somewhere outside of the Expo grounds - possibly the trailhead? Is there any way I can exchange numbers and texts with someone who can help me coordinate that? Please and thank you.
