So just like everyone else i got my recall letter saying shocks were avaliable so make an appointment. Made appointment for Thursday the 21st. Drove the Bronco to dealer it took 24 hours before they looked at it witch was them taking pictures of shocks and and having FoMoCo to ok the recall. So the dealer doesn't even have product in stock. Why have me bring it in and without rear shocks it's almost undrivable! Hitting the smallest bumps at over 50 Mph it throws you all over the place be careful when you loose both. Dealer calls me and says come pick it up after I told them it's unsafe to drive. Then service person says "OH we don't know when we are getting replacements in" WTF Ford why send out availability letters if there not avaliable. Your waisting people's time by doing this crap. Some of us work for a living. Get it together!!!

@BuckYeah i saw that someone in CA had posted a set of the Hoss 3.0 Fox shocks for sale here.

I distinctly asked for HOSS Fox 5.0 shocks, though. 🤓

The 3.0 Fox shocks are amazing and many takeoffs out there. Fox and Ford spent allot of time for a great shock setup. unless you are going full race.
I'm running a set of fox with the 4 door springs on my 2 Door Badlands. For Colorado, Moab, Baja Mexico we love them.

YOU, I trust. Bilstein, not so much. LOL

If Fox products are good enough for you, I’m sold.

I wouldn't say BILSTEIN as a whole is bad. They make some excellent products.
The ol' ... "get what ya pay for" comes to mind.
I think they are a good shock. Engineering and manufacturing was not, and is not where it needs to be for this application.

Ford performance has the Wildtrack hoss suspension with sway bar and 3/36 warranty posted now. I have this on my badlands 2 door. I went with 4 door springs because of weight I carry and it works great.
It works great and ford and fox spent allot of time tuning these shocks.
You can go to aftermarket but they do not have time or as much experience on these vehicles. I don’t want to start a debate just my opinion.

Practical question: what sound, reasonable replacements are available that are anything BUT Bilstein products? Particularly for those who just want decent performance without having to perform routine adjustments or tweaking? I just want to drive my Bronco without having to worry about pieces falling off.

I don’t trust Bilstein. They literally fall apart.

Pardon the double posting, but I DID promise "post-op" pix of the Bilstein shock recall service, so here they are.

I just got my recall service performed and I'm completely satisfied... for the moment. 🙂

For the record, my dealer performed a visual inspection during an earlier visit and determined that my shocks were not leaking or showing signs of damage. They did have some icky residue on them, to which I ascribed normal road grime accrual. I returned to the dealer yesterday to have the recall service performed, which was completed for free, despite having aftermarket components (skid plates) installed. Here are a few before and after photos of my rear shocks.

Work Order Notes:
Dealership Work Order Closeup.jpeg

It would appear that the recall service required the technician to apply "sili" to the shocks. Silicone? Silly Putty? Who knows? Then they installed a hard plastic or rubber sleeve, a.k.a. "shield" over the existing shock and reservoir body. It appears to be fastened with nuts and bolts (not chicken wire and papier-mâché or Kleenex and spit as I originally mused) and completely envelopes the original plastic "BILSTIEN" reservoir covers. It looks somewhat sturdy in my opinion; time will tell how well it holds up.

Would I have liked replacement shocks? Yes. Did the condition of mine warrant that? No. For my needs, it is a satisfactory preventative maintenance exercise. All that said, I am entertaining the idea of replacing all four shocks with Fox 3.0 units, similar to those found on the Wildtrak and other premium trim level Broncos in the future. However, given their price tag, they may be Fox 4.0 or Fox 5.0 by the time I'm ready to afford such an upgrade. LOL

I hope my photos and description help manage everyone's expectations when it comes to the Bilstein shock recall campaign. 😎

PS - For those in the know, the dealership torqued ALL of my lug nuts to factory specs prior to my departure.

I added a winch to my 2 door heritage and lost 1/2" of lift in the front. Do you think the 4 door HOSS 3 shocks would bring it back up to factory sasquatch height. I have the 2.7 also.
