We have never towed anything before, so this was a little nerve-wracking to figure out! I wanted to post here for anyone who is in the same boat.

We want to buy a camper eventually but we're renting a few from outdoorsy to see what fits us the best. This is the Taxa Cricket (Dry Weight 1750,) and the Bronco can tow this no problem.

Our Bronco is a 2023 base model, standard transmission, 2.3L.

We didn't get the tow package, so here are the steps we took to be able to tow:
1. Installed a tow hitch - we got one from Amazon that is made of Alloy Steel and has a placement for the 7/4 pin that is pretty similar to the factory package (cost: $75)
2. Installed a wiring harness - used the curt 4-pin harness ($75) for Ford Bronco and purchased a separate 4-7 pin converter ($20) and the connector ($28)
3. Installed a weight distribution hitch (ReCurve R3, $225 from facebook marketplace,) which we didn't end up using with the Cricket due to the placement of the propane tanks. It drove without too much swaying, but we stayed under 65 MPH. Long-term, I would want to find a way to install the WDH.
4. We got the Curt Bluetooth Echo brake controller ($95 from facebook marketplace). We didn't use this with the Cricket because it has one built-in.

Driving on a smooth road, I could not even tell we were towing anything. Starting from an incline, I could definitely feel the trailer, and on bumpy roads as well, but overall, the Bronco was very capable.

We get 20MPG normally, and we got 17 towing. Better than I expected!

Let us know if you have any questions on our set-up!

Couple follow up questions... By standard transmission - you mean the manual, correct? If so, I'm curious if you feel like you had to run in a lower gear / higher RPM generally speaking than when not towing?
Running on flat ground or slight inclines, I try to stay around or just above 2K RPM to keep the engine from "bogging" if I need to slow down and speed back up with traffic and avoid downshifting if I stay in this range. I can step on the gas and watch the Boost gauge ramp up and never feel like power is lacking. Just wondering if the extra trailer weight made you feel the need to run higher RPMs in general.

Also, regular fuel only, or premium?

Thanks!

Yes, manual. In general, I did not feel the need to run in a lower gear with higher RPM. Just when starting on an incline, or also when going up hills.

Regular fuel only for us!
