I'm looking into getting a camper for the wife and I to pull behind the Bronco. Thinking about a tear drop but now we are thinking maybe a little bigger with a few more amenities.

My question for the group is if anyone has pulled small trailers behind their Broncos and how did it pull a 16' 2k lb trailer? That's about the size we are thinking about.

I've done many of my Bronco mods myself but I'm not confident in my abilities to make my own. Great looking setup you have, both the rare Everglades color and matching the rig to it. But you have me thinking now. Thanks.

First off Thank you, I do love the DS Everglades.
I get not wanting to build one. it can be a commitment, but if you are thinking about it there is a good builders web site here. https://www.tnttt.com/

https://www.google.com/search?q=pla...ate=ive&vld=cid:fd6cc769,vid:YLZybJJ5R94,st:0
and These guys build and amazing teardrop and they build one for light off road my frame is built off of theirs since my original teardrop was a clone of their 550 they are good guys and they helped me with my build I even bought door frames and windows from them.
You can watch some of the other Playing with sticks videos he reviews lots of teardrops.

Just took ours out again last weekend to Dinosaur Valley State Park, Texas. We love it. Sunset Park Sunlite sport 16BH. I also tow in Sport and switch it back to 2H.

Hey hey Talking about campers and camping? Yes please.

We have a Taxa Cricket. It is 1700lb dry so probably 21-2200 loaded and its 15ft, The Bronco tows it like a champ, much better than with our Crossover we were using before hand. No problems at all with managing the weight, and trailer brakes make stopping easy too. My milage drops into the 14-15 range at interstate speed, but that is to be expected.

Here is my thread on the Camper- https://thebronconation.com/outdoors-adventure-n.81/taxa-cricket-t.11497/
The cricket isn't for everyone, but it works great for us (Two adults, two kids, two semi-worthless dogs.

If you are looking to be able to stand up, sleep, shower and poop if necessary, along with the ability to cook, heat, and AC. Then the NU Camp Tab 320 Boondock is an excellent choice. It is light offroad capable and is an easy tow. I was very surprised at how my rig pulled it with ease. It was my wife’s choice, she did all the research. She is happy, so I am happy.

2022 Wildtrak 2.7L... We pull a trailer often. 27' footer weighs in at 3483 dry and pulls like a champ. Added a trailer brake (ford accessory) and stops on a dime! 1709253779992.png

I have a 21 outer banks 4 Door (soft top with the v6 and lux package) that I drove from LA to Anchorage Alaska towing a 5x8 cargo trailer 3/4 loaded and didn't even have an issue. about 1000 miles into the trip, I forgot I even had the trailer hooked up. went trough the Rocky mountains and the gold rush trail Mountain pass in BC Canada at tree line level. I also was still getting 21 MPG with trailer on. through the spring snow and snow melts. you will have no issue towing a larger trailer than the tear drop.

I believe that what you're referring to is the flat tow mode for the Bronco. Not what the OP was looking for. When I towed a small trailer, I did it in Sport mode but turned off 4A. Worked pretty well even over the really large mountain I had to cross.

I did check...this is not for flat towing. That said, it's not a true "tow/haul" mode, either (one that modifies shift points when under load, etc). From what I was able to see, it essentially changes the settings for the backup camera, backup sensors and lighting to account for having a towed vehicle behind you.

Can you point me to the doc on that? I know that a lot of what you mentioned happened automatically when I plugged my trailer into the 7-pin connector. But I never saw any button or menu item that sets a mode for towing. As I said, the only one I could find was for setting up the Bronco to be flat towed. Anyway, if I missed it I’d love to see where that is for next time I tow a trailer.

It’s been years and perhaps camp trailer quality has improved, but our experience was that trailer towing wasn’t the issue - it’s what’s left of your trailer when you arrive.

I mean, we had couple trailer versions, started with a popup and moved up to a 20ft Jayco. And both were routinely destroyed after several miles on a typical dirt road to our Colorado high country lake sites. Cabinets, drawers, seating, plumbing usually wasted, almost a complete rebuild after every trip,

Don’t know, maybe we’re unlucky or I drive too fast. We had much better success with a custom camper van/RV rig.

I really don’t know, hope today’s trailers are tougher .. Also, overlander rigs seem more rigorous..

Cheers

Here ya go...mostly common sense, but really pretty helpful if you're aware it's there. First time I towed a teardrop, I didn't know to look for it. But now I do. IMG_7098.jpg

I wonder if this will solve my problem, that my trailer lights don't work unless I have the headlights on, then I have stop lights and blinkers. Not huge issue but an extra step I have to do.

Interesting thought. I have to leave my lights on so my furion camera works (as it gets its power from the trailer lights which will turn off in daytime when set to auto).

Not sure if it’s because of the factory trailer tow package, but when I hook up my trailer it knows and tells me it is hooked up and is stopping BLIS and Chris traffic alerts. Maybe it automatically toggles this on when my trailer is connected?? I will be sure to check next time.

Yes I think that is the case with the factory trailer set up, it knows when a trailer is connected and turns off some functions . I did have to add my hitch aftermarket, I dropped the hitch from my order to help expedite its construction. Maybe I’ll try it when I get home.

That's exactly what it does, as I tried to say before. When I tow my trailer, I don't have to hit any buttons, go through any screen/setting, nada. I just plug it into the 7-pin connector and those messages pop up to let me know that I don't have blind spot detection, etc. You might need to go to that manual process described above if you're using a non-factory hitch and wiring harness that's not connected into the Bronco's computer. Neither the automatic transmission, nor the manual transmission in the Bronco have a specific tow/haul mode. However, I think that using Sport mode might get you close since it's much more aggressive at downshifting, for example, when going downhill.

Thanks for everyone input. We went with a short standy. The thought of getting dressed at my old age in a teardrop wasn't looking fun. Went with the Flagstaff E-Pro E12S. Has solar, gaucho bed/ couch, Power awning, galley/kitchen in the back. Only $17k. Picking it up next weekend. I'll post pictures then.

Thank you fellow campers.

For those of you that purchased the "Ford-approved-specifically-for-your-Bronco" Red Arc trailer brake controller from Ford Accessories, where did you mount the switch panel? A picture would be great if you have one handy.

I'm waiting for my '24 Outer Banks and will be towing the Little Guy Micro Max I currently drag around with my Explorer.

Thanks in advance!
