Hey guys! I am joining a group of friends that love to go camping up in the Los Angeles Mountains.
The groups is mostly people with Toyota 4runners and some pick up peeps with tents. Though a few do car camp.
I do not want to buy a ton of gear for camping, I am thinking to also car camp inside my 4 door bronco. The only thing is that as y'all familiar, the bronco trunk and back of the back seats is not necessarily flat.

Does anybody done camping inside their Bronco? if so how did you make it comfortable? Also any other tips while camping inside the bronco?

That's awesome! There's a lot on here who have some great solutions. I went with @Aloha's Meraki Hammocks. If you're unfamiliar, you get to custom order your hammock and then it's as easy as installing a bracket on the A pillar and C pillar in pre-existing holes.

Keeping the Jeeps: stock '89 XJ and 3.5" lifted '00 XJ on 31s

I'll tell you what sold me: Randall had me get in theirs at night while we were in Texas to try it out. He had the top fully off his Bronco, and I got in, looked up, and the stars were absolutely amazing. Done! Take my money 😂
Very comfortable in the 4 door (I'm 5'6" but people up to 6'2" I believe can fit comfy). And when I want to go camping, all I have to do is pull it out of its storage bag, and I'm set up inside my Bronco in 60 seconds (which is also nice for females who camp alone ... I feel a little safer than when I'm in my tent.)

Hahahah I love it " take my money". I am sold already specially after mentioning the view of the stars from the comfort of your own Bronco. SOLD. Also 60 seconds set up vs 30-40 mins for an entire campsite with tent and chairs, hardpass ! take mahhhhhh money!

I totally hear ya about being a lady and camping alone. all you gots to do is lock the doors and enjoy the view. Last week I read a story about a couple that mauled by a bear in Canada, they had bear spray and had done all the right things to avoid bears in the area. Wrong place wrong time, so sad. But inside the bronco, by the time the bear sniffs the window, you'd be peeling off out of there on the driver's seat.

I am going to email them. How long did yours take to make?

Wifey & I had many great evenings campling in our G2 '78 Bronco. So naturally, we're looking at sleep options for our new horsey. The hammock sounds great for one person. Here are couple air mattress products for 2 that look comfy:

The IAG mattress is pretty sweet also. I have also climbed into the Merkai hammock and it is a well made comfortable option.

I saw that; sad story for sure. He was quick, I had it within a week. Just a heads up; I've only slept in it two nights in a row, and I think I could easily get a third in before my age started telling me to get back in a real bed.

haha well as long as I do not have to wrestle a bear, or a tent. I am here for it. Just need to get a massage when I get back to civilization. Any solo trips you've done in California? any recs?

The Slide Out Tailgate could be an answer. It is the best decision I made when I was configuring. It flattens out the back while giving a great surface for cooking, sitting, packing, or sliding a fridge or cooler out onto.
The rear seats almost fold flat, they are slightly ramped but not uncomfortably. I built a gear shelf in the back that lines up with the top of the backseat and goes almost to the back window. It gives us plenty of storage space to keep the floor clear. A Big Agnes Captain Comfort 41”x72” fits perfectly. IMG_4535.jpeg

I actually camped in it last weekend in Southern Utah. I bought leveling pads by Deepsleep for the back to level it out, and a great blowup mattress on Amazon by GoTidy that has a built-in inflator that plugs into the 12v, and is specifically designed to fit the Bronco 4-door. It was incredibly comfy and roomy. I'm 5'11, and had no issues spreading out. It did get below freezing, and I didn't turn the car on to warm up at all, so had to clean the windows from condensation after, but it was super comfy otherwise.
Just had to take all my gear out and leave it outside, with the exception of food stuff. Put that in the front seat, along with my clothes, etc.

Thank you!! this is very good insight. I am trying to decide between the hammock or the leveling out pads/ mattress. The one thing that is driving me to the hammock is having to take things outside the car just to camp. I have a soft top so I would love to camp and stare at the stars and lock the car. Almost convinced the hammock may be the winner. Thank you though. Which trail did you off road in Utah? I am trying to make a list of recs for an awesome road trip.

I saw that hammock comment, and have put it on my list of things I might buy haha. I like it.
Unfortunately I didn't end up off roading the Bronco, as that night was so cold, my sister-in-law ended up taking my nephews back home the next day in my Bronco because they were miserable. Was there for an EV off roading event, so my brother and I stayed and took his Rivian R1S.
We just did Burr Trail, as we were with a bunch of other EVs (Teslas and Bolts) who dont have the clearance. Beautiful trail through, and still highly recommend it. It has a few offshoots that would be great for some more fun high clearance trails.
Check out the Off X app for some good trail options.
