It’s here!

May 24, 2024

It is time that I buy a new vehicle and the Bronco Heritage caught my eye. On Wednesday this week I visited my local dealer and signed on with a $2500 deposit for a 2024 Cactus Grey Heritage (only option - tow package) with a 2.3 and a manual transmission. I did the paperwork for the financing and by the time I drove home there was a message that the financing was approved and they would place the order that afternoon. Cool.

Oh, did I mention that the dealer insisted the deposit was “non-refundable” once the order was in because they didn’t want to get stuck with a Bronco that they couldn’t sell. Apparently, there are storage lots full of manual transmission Broncos…….yeah, right.

Two hours later, it all change. The dealer tells me that Ford has place a “stop order” on all Heritage models for 2024 effective days ago. No more orders until 2025. They suggested I to wait until September to place the order and then wait the 8 months for delivery. Or, they could find me a non-Heritage with the same equipment (they added that they could wrap the roof, wheels, grill and dash to make it look like a Heritage).

So, I chose to look at what they could find with the same specs (minus the wrap it in plastic idea). They came up with a Badlands but no surprise, the bottom line came in at $16k more than my original order!! Nope, not going there.

The way I look at it, they defaulted on the sale, so I requested my deposit back as I don’t want them earning interest on my money for the next four months.

Thanks Frdfan. I have to point out some information that may alter your theory.

The incentive is a “delivery incentive” being offered by Ford CANADA. I am not sure where you are but many just assume I am in the US.

Secondly, it am not getting a Heritage. The dealer “sold” me a factory order then later discovered that the order window on Heritage Broncos was closed more than six month prior. There are no Heritage models in Canada available at dealers, hence I have had to “upgrade” to a Badlands to get the same options approximately (in one of the earliest posts). It also meant a $16k increase to what would have been the cost of the Heritage if my order had gone through. We managed to negotiate much of that away.

While I like your theory on the reasons behind the “trailer package issues” there are a few finer points I should clear up. The Bronco was delivered to the dealer early last week and is still park in the exact same place since arriving. They have done nothing with it since it arrived. It is still dirty with all the window stickers in place. Also, the dealer although having a huge service department, does not install the hitch packages. Once the parts are in, they take the Bronco and the Ford kit across town to a questionable truck/4x4 aftermarket shop which happens to be owned by a family member of the dealer. The installation is done by the aftermarket shop staff. (At least it is still covered by the full factoring warranty!!)

Thanks again. I need some positive thoughts on this mess before I sink completely into conspiracy theories!

Hang in there.. I would be irate with the dealer but there is not much you can do other than wait. After you get it all will be done and over with and you'll have your Bronco to enjoy for years..

Good luck and I hope you get your Bronco soon!

Today is Monday and another message from the dealer. This time, the hitch receiver arrived for installation, however the wiring kit and module is missing in action. (Maybe they ordered the wrong part number(s)?). They weren’t really clear on when the parts may make an appearance.

Unfortunately, due to my life‘s crazy schedule, I won’t be around to take delivery for another couple of weeks now. I have opted to still pick It up today and return once the parts arrive for the installation.

Buying a new vehicle should not be this difficult. It hasn’t been on the other dozen or so new vehicle I have purchased over the last four decades!

I am still hoping to get the Bronco today.

I ordered my `24 Black Diamond in Feb, with the locking lugs, roof rack and trailer hitch as my only options. Picked it up in April, still waiting for the trailer hitch parts to show up at the dealer so that they can be installed. SMH.

I was aware you're in Canada, and I mistakenly said Heritage when I should have said Badlands. Not trying to create a conspiracy or create negative thoughts, but was just simply stating a possible reason for the dealer delaying delivery.

Sorry to cause you any distress. Happy wheeling, no need to respond to me any further.

Got a message from the Sales Person today and surprise, they are all ready to go for 10 am tomorrow. The caveat is that the trailer kit is still AWOL and they have no idea when it may be arriving.

At this point, I am going to pick it up, just to get the deal mostly done and the Bronco off the dealer’s lot.

Of interest, I found the trailer kits in stock at a few Ford dealers scattered around the province. I did suggest to the Sales Person in my confirmation for tomorrow that she might consider bring the kit in from one of those dealers……..no reply.

No worries, Frdfan. I was genuine in that I appreciate positive theories. I think up all kinds of negative conspiracies all by myself!!

Hopefully, good news and photos tomorrow!!

Something of interest. I took my Bronco in to McCarthy Ford in Chicago (where I ordered it) for my 3000 mile oil change and saw a fellow test driving a spanking new 2dr Iconic Silver10spd BB w/SAS. Talking with the fellow for a sec, I told him that it looked good and he complimented my BD. I asked how he liked it, he said he loved it, and that it was his second 6th Gen, at which time he pointed to a really clean 2dr Azure Gray non squatch 7spd (!) Badlands that he traded in on the BB. He said that he "likes a small vehicle" and has always had one. I didn`t get personal and ask what he paid for it, but the window sticker was 51K, not sure what the trade in was worth, again didn`t want to get personal. As he was an older fellow, I can only think that he got tired of driving a manual. I wish that I could have took that Badlands home with me! I would have two 2dr 7spd toys to play with!
For those looking for a clean 2dr 7spd Badlands , it came in today 07 JUN 24 at McCarthy Ford.

I thought I would give you all an update on the continuing saga.

Firstly, I love my Bronco! It is everything I expected and more. I only have around 900 km on it, but I see a long and happy relationship.

The bad news is continued games at the dealership. A couple of days after the delivery, I got a survey from Ford regarding my dealership experience. Suffice to say my response was not complimentary.

After about a week of ownership, the sales person contacted me and said that my trailer parts were in much to my surprise. We made arrangements for me to take the Bronco in to the aftermarket 4x4 accessory dealer (which happens to actually be owned by the dealership) to have the Ford trailer package installed. Cool!

I get to the shop when they opened on Wednesday and the sketchy guy behind the counter informs me that I can’t wait because, “once we get to it, the installation takes 5 or 6 hours”. What? The kit is “plug and play” and Ford only charges 1.xx hours labour. Odd. He then informs me that he didn’t think they would even get to it that day.

I asked him to show me the parts he would be installing and you can probably guess he starts pulling things off the shelves - not one Ford part. Everything was cheap aftermarket universal parts which needed to have the Bronco wire harness split and spliced in.

The guy behind the counter then informs me that this the only way to have a tow package installed because Ford only installs Ford parts on the assembly line. Untrue, obviously. He also thought it was a big joke laughing about the situation.

I left and went back to the dealership…….

Back at the dealership, the salesperson wasn’t working so I asked to see the Sales Manager. They again surprised me be showing me into his office.

The SM tells me he knows my name, and I surmised that it was about the survey. Yes, it was and he was about to call me. We agreed to talk about that later and start with the trailer package issue.

The SM starts off by saying that I should NEVER have been charged $1000 on the purchase for the trailer package. It wasn’t correct nor were any parts ordered for my Bronco. He immediately agrees to cut me a cheque for the $1000 plus the sales tax. He also said he would order the Ford/Lumen package and pick up all costs. The bad news is that the parts are on back order everywhere in the country with no estimated delivery date.

Next he went on to tell me that the salesperson was “green” and made a lot of mistakes. No argument from me. He basically put the entire drama on the young salesperson and attempted to absolve himself of anything. Next we got back to the survey. He wanted me to do another survey and give them a “good” rating - no connection to the refund of course! Ultimately, I agreed to consider a second survey.

This morning, the nice Amazon guy dropped off a license plate relocation bracket for me so I removed the plate to mount it below the bumper. The dealer mounted it in the worst possible location. Looks stupid, sticks out like a sore thumb, and at least partially blocks the various coolers behind the grill. It was then I discovered that someone at the dealer took it upon themselves to drive the world’s largest sheet metal screws through the front fascia leaving two jagged half inch holes. Thanks! They could have at least asked before destroying the trim piece. I guess I will be heading back to address this issue tomorrow. (When I bought my last Subaru STi, the dealership at least asked before attaching the plate if I wanted to get a relocation bracket myself to avoid drilling holes in the bodywork!)

As they say, the story continues……..

That trim piece, the plastic one right below your grille is where im assuming you're talking about? That's apparently the actual spot the plate is supposed to go if there's no bracket for the bumper. There's actually two little punch holes that line up for the plate.... my plate was in that plastic trim piece too, and after some googling and all of that fun stuff, it's in fact the right spot (why Ford did that, I'll never know. It's really stupid). I just put the plate screws back in so there's no obvious holes 🙄

Sad the dealer installed that front plate. That was one thing I told my dealership when ordering that they were not to put any stickers on or install that front plate.
