Dealer sold my Raptor to someone else

Golden ticket holder here - followed my build on the Ford tracker. When it was listed as "in delivery" I got excited and awaited to hear from my salesperson. Days pass, I look on the tracker and it says it was delivered. I send an e-mail to my salesperson, no response. Try calling, number was disconnected. I call the dealer's main line, talk to 3 different people. Finally they admit the car was delivered and they sold it to someone else. I was never contacted. Wondering what to do next?

This, folks, is how paying ADM hurts others.
This, folks, is how @Ford Motor Company allowing this hurts others.

Honestly, I think they're all tied, but some lines go more to customer service help and some go to more of a marketing/brand team, like the one I listed.

Ford has some priority codes lower than 10 for situations where things go wrong, but I think the order banks would need to be open and we will need to see what they do with ordering Raptors, but someone with more knowledge might be able to give advice to that.

Thanks. Yes, when I first called the customer service line they transferred me to the Marketing/Brand team, which took my complaint. They were pleasant and sympathetic but, ultimately, said they can't do much other than open a case.

Saying this is extremely discouraging doesn't even begin to describe it. Has your dealer made any moves to make this right, like @Sulley's suggestion?

Ha, just the opposite. They blamed me for not reaching out earlier and that by not contacting them they determined that I didn't want the car. I sternly argued that it was unreasonable for me to reach out when *they* knew when the car was delivered and, further, that the instructions I got from Ford were that "a dealership representative will contact you to arrange final delivery." As soon as I saw on the tracker that the car was delivered, I e-mailed my salesperson. Turns out, that salesperson no longer worked there, but I didn't get any bounce back or anything. By the time I called to follow up, they told me they sold it.

Yeah that's really unfair. Tim Bartz says their dealership tries daily for 30 days before opening a vehicle up to others.

I'm wondering why you waited DAYS until you tried to reach out to your dealer. I would've been all over them as soon as your Bronco went from being "Shipped" to "Final Preparation!"

@jparker this dealership is listed in your MSRP thread as a dealer that honors MSRP. Dealers that steal orders should not get positive publicity on Bronco Nation. Would you consider removing them from your list so this doesn’t happen to someone else?

Please and Thank you.

Yeah, normally I'd agree. Just been dealing with some personal family issues so chasing after a dealer hasn't exactly been priority #1. I tried following up and tracking stuff as quickly as I was reasonably able.

I waited 18 months for my Basesquatch, and this was my nightmare. Thankfully, I took delivery at MSRP as agreed upon order. My Salesman called me while they were taking it off the truck. I was at the dealership in about 20 minutes.

Just to be clear, my suggestion was to ask Ford to do it. That's what I am told they did to get @jtmoore into his Bronco... I am a bit disappointed he never posted a followup.

I'm sorry to hear that. It looks like you blew your window of opportunity. I don't think you've got any option but to move on. Your dealer probably thought you abandoned them and took the opportunity to turn a profit. I'm not saying it's right, it's just unfortunate for you.

I think this is a poor tactic by the dealer. The consumer should not be responsible to closely monitor an unreliable order tracking site. The responsibility should be on the dealer to reach out and attempt to sell the Bronco to the customer who ordered it.

“I tried nothing, so I should be able to sell the Bronco to whoever I want” is not a reasonable excuse to walk away from a customer.

Most people that ordered these vehicles and waited years for them to get scheduled, let alone built, probably have a better idea of where their Bronco is than the dealer.

If I ordered a Bronco years ago, then discovered I was able to change my order to get a Raptor, you could be damn sure I'd be monitoring its exact location from the day it was built!

No one is arguing that the dealer did a scummy thing. I'm just saying it's incredible that someone would let a Raptor slip through their fingers after having waited so long. And if I couldn't reach the dealer by phone or email, I would definitely go there to see what was going on.

Hey, I get it. To be honest, I was keeping up with the order best I could under the circumstances. I placed the order with my local dealer when I lived in Seattle years ago. A job change and life changes relocated me to Southern California in the meantime, so driving over to see what's going on wasn't feasible. I relied on the updates from Ford (which were regular, even updating me every time my build week got pushed back). At least to me everything seemed to be working as designed. It's the first time I ever ordered a car from Ford, so I didn't know any better. I certainly won't make that mistake again.

-Did you have a window sticker (online) sent to you by Ford???
-Did Ford send (online) a photo of the blend from the assembly line??
-Did you have the online Tracking information from Ford/dealership (the shipping tracking (train) info)????

Ford sent me all of this (prior to delivery)

This is proof that this car was built by Ford for you…. The dealership is basically an intermediary….

Only the reservation/order holder was sent this information by Ford. This is not a typical sale… nor is this dealer void from honoring your agreement….

Set up a meeting and speak directly with the owner or general Manager of the dealership … bring the window sticker, bring the assembly line photo, and any and all correspondence by Ford proving this was your order….
Secondly bring someone with you familiar with the situation (second set of ears as a witness).

Explain how they did not honor their order agreement (as you have here on this forum).

Explain to him/her how the person who was supposed to contact you “didn’t… and that you need to rectify this situation….

Make them say verbally how they plan on dealing with this situation….

Most dealership owners 1) hate law suits 2) hate bad publicity 3) hate the BBB, 4) fear repercussions from FORD…

Chances are…. If you overwelm them with the consequences and you give them a chance to make this right, they will more than likely capitulate….

For example, I would imagine the dealership doesn’t want the local evening news making a compelling story out of this seriously bad situation (aka selling your 80K B-Raptor order out from underneath you after waiting two years)

FYI worse case scenario….My dealership (when the order banks open)…..has offered to order (myself) a ‘23 B-Raptor and sell it for 10k over MSRP. I’m almost positive they would make this same offer to anyone….
Of course, this will take time but it is better than pounding sand.

Let us know how this turns out…

Don’t give up!!!

Yes, I have all of those things. When I called this morning they asked me to send them a copy of my signed build sheet, which I did. Their response was that although they agree I had a valid order and a golden ticket, the car is nevertheless sold and there's nothing they can/will do. I'll try escalating to the GM and dealer Principal just to close those loops, but I don't think they're going to do anything to make things right.

At this point, I doubt they would buy the Raptor back from whoever they sold it to and then sell it to you. And even if they order you a new Raptor at Priority 1, you’re still looking at another waiting period. So the only thing I see you doing is taking them to court and assuming you win, hope the financial settlement will pay for a new Raptor. This seems to me to be the most likely course of action. I don’t see any other option.

Once again this falls under the "I should've kept an eye on it" category. Sorry that you lost your Raptor, but with all the stories we continue to read, WHY do people wait for the dealer to contact them? Be on top of things. Don't give the dealer the opportunity to sell it out from under you.

It’s more likely the dealer already had sold it for well above sticker with a high ADM, so he didn’t have to let it go for MSRP. Has zero to do with him keeping an eye on it. He was screwed by Pierre Ford before the vehicle was even delivered. They used his named order to snag an allocation, cheating both Ford and the customer.
