Back in January 2025, Ford released safety recall 25S01 (NHTSA 25V025), which concerns the factory Bilstein shocks on Broncos with the Sasquatch package and non-Sasquatch Badlands produced between September 23, 2020 and July 23, 2024. Corrosion could set in on the rear shock absorbers, causing leaks and/or the external reservoir to detach.
Remedy Now Available
At the time the recall was announced, parts were not yet available. Yesterday, Ford shared instructions with dealers on addressing the issue for affected vehicles.
The remedy includes replacing failed rear shocks, or cleaning passing shocks, applying Motorcraft TA-357 High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the flange, and installing a shock absorber reservoir retention clamp (a new design of the previous, smaller rock shield).
Shocks that are considered fails have cracks, broken welds, and/or leaks on either rear shock. If one rear shock has failed, both will be replaced. If the shocks pass as acceptable, the preventative measures of silicone and the retention clamp will be completed.
Since this is a safety recall, Ford will inspect your Bronco for leaking or missing rear shock absorber reservoirs and replace or repair free of charge, no matter where you are at in your warranty.
Letters Arriving Soon
Customers with vehicles in the recall range will begin receiving letters from Ford the week of August 11, 2025 or sooner, however, dealers are already scheduling inspection appointments as of today. You can call your dealer or use your FordPass app to set up a recall service appointment.
Need Reimbursement?
If your Bilstein rear shocks have already failed and you replaced them out of pocket, you may be eligible for a refund. Please see Ford’s FAQs on recall repairs to move forward.
