Marine Grade Vinyl vs. Leather Seats

MGV for me. With all the reports about it from Super Cel East, the versatility and quality sounds great. No reason to upgrade to the leather. Save a few bucks!

If you have an interior that is able to take some soaking and it will, it makes sense not to put a motor under the seat that might get water splashed on it.Power seat motors are not sealed.

But they could be. Power window motors and connections are potentially also exposed to water in the doors so this excuse, pardon the pun, does not hold water. Seat motors and connections would be above the water anyway given these are probably elevated like they are in the Jeep Wrangler.

That MGV looks really nice, and like that orange stitching too! Seems like it'll hold up better / longer too.

But seems like only two models are coming stock with the Vinyl Seats - Black Diamond and Badlands.

I agree with above comments - it should be an option on all the models.

*interesting to note, both those Bronco models have the option to "upgrade" to the Mid Package which has "heated front seats" BUT all the other premium models (Outerbanks and Wildtrak) offer heated cloth seats with the option to bump to heated leather like on the First Edition so I'm scratchin my head.....

It's also worth pointing out that based on the WildTrack walk around that was just done is the leather option gets you cup holders in the center arm rest while the MGV does not. As a driver with two small kids the cup holders are potentially important.

Thanks for bringing me back to the thread @Shadowblade. @Bronco5.0 almost got it right except now I’m wondering if an explorer would have been a step up from the escape I traded my bronco for. :LOL::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::LOL:

With my Wildtrak build, MGV iwas not an option, although it would be tempting in order to save a few bucks, I think leather is the better option. Leather is a known commodity In a vehicle and we all know the how leather looks, wears and feels. The vast majority of us don’t know how the MGV looks and feels, and we don’t know how it will hold up to being exposed to water (although it’s made for this purpose) and being baked in the sun and sub-zero winter temps. Plus, no cupholder in the rear and no option for powered seats on a nearly $60K badlands build with MGV is inexplicable. The leather option provides all those options plus the premium look and feel of leather.

I hope you’re right, cause I’m in the FE club and no MGV there either, which has weighs heavy on my mind about “downgrading” (or is it upgrading?? :unsure:) to a Badlands.

You’re exactly right. And I believe everyone knows this...... It says it right in the name....Leather Trimmed Vinyl. Same thing with almost all leather seats, even in my Lincoln. And you’re also right about aftermarket Katzkin leather seats as well.....really nice at a good value.

Agreed it should at least be an option for all trim levels. Even if you have to pay extra.
My wife does embroidery work on the side and one of her clients does upholstery and he had her stitch out some mustang emblems for the headrests on that MGV material and it is some nice stuff.

Yep I have some plans for the Bronco and some custom Badlands embroidery. I just have to get it in my hands first.

I know it's not a 2021, but my seats in my 69 are marine grade vinyl. The reason I chose that rather than recovering in the original leather is that exposure to any kind of sun will dry it out and crack. Leather takes far more attention than vinyl, vinyl does need maintenance but the feel is similar to that of leather and most think I have leather on the seats. The seats are from a BMW and there are tons of aftermarket leather replacements. I have had the vinyl for two years and would not even think of leather on a vehicle that is exposed to that much weather and light.

I suspect that if Ford made up some jargon like ‘Exclusive “BroncoTex” Interior’ and describe it as they have the MGV anyone not familiar with MGV from boating or other motorsports would be at ease about this great choice! Furthermore, the new BroncoTex interior option may actually be a customer preferred item if marketed properly.

Yes kinda like alcantara which is really just fake suede. Back in the day it used to be really cheap. But now they have found it makes a pretty nice upholstery and the price has gone way up. Sign me up for the BroncoTex I love that name.

Truly stupid considering that there are no cup holders in the sides like the 2 door.

Best to see how it is, and if you don't like it, might as well go big with some unique color when getting leather

You have the option to bump up to leather seats on the Badlands too. The only trims you can't get powered (not counting 2 doors) leather seats in are Base, Big Bend and Black Diamond.

Badlands, OBX and Wildtrak can all have heated + power leather seats.

Think of the Black Diamond as the little brother to the Badlands that can't have all the options the Badlands can have. Your limited to mid package.
The Big Bend is the little brother to the OBX that can't have all of it's options. Your also limited to mid package.
The Wildtrak is an OBX with a standard 2.7 and Sasquatch plus an extra Goat Mode.

If they wanted to simplify the trims they would get rid of OBX, Badlands and Wildtrak and just let you option Big Bend and Black Diamond the whole way up to Lux/Leather seats and advanced 4x4 without Sasquatch.

I changed to MGV and I love the manual seats and rubber floors and you can get heated seats with the LUX package.
