A Zero Forever

Hey guys, so I spoke to the dealership and the guy in service made me a little nervous.

To confirm-- if I use K&N 5W30 and a K&N oil filter for my next oil change, will I void my Ford warranty? I wouldn't think so, but you never know these days. Thanks for any guidance.

I’m pretty sure you could run any full or part synthetic 5W-30 in these engines, changed at 10,000 miles and it would be fine. This wouldn’t hatch the engine, especially within the warranty period. What is Ford going to do? A chemical analysis to determine oil brand and specifications? How can anyone prove they changed their own oil? How many Boss and Shelby owners run 5W-50 that isn’t Ford spec? I do.
Saying that I prefer to waste a lot of good oil.
Certainly over-maintaining my vehicles. The second owners are really going to be happy.😕

Well for me, I buy my Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft oil filter at the dealership I bought my Bronco from. I arrange the oil bottles and filter box along with the dealer's receipt on the engine and take a date-stamped picture. Further, I record every fuel fill in a notebook I keep in the driver's door pocket, so I have a handwritten record of mileage by date. Of course, I save the purchase receipt for the oil and filter. And I'd imagine the ECU keeps record of oil minder resets by miles and date.

Yeah people do what people do. Really hard to mess it up. I’ve read a lot of stuff from “BlackStone”. Their comments include-“ oil is oil is oil” and “time doesn’t affect oil life”.
I tend to believe them but like I said I waste a lot of oil. Here’s a nice report -

A 10,000-mile OCI is not wasting oil in my book. I have a BMW with 426,000 miles on the original engine. 12,153-mile OCI average over 35 oil changes (36 if you include the factory fill). I now only drive it about 5,000 miles a year (vs. 35,000 back in its heyday) and change the oil around every 18 months. The OCI has come way down from 16,343-mile avg. OCI for the first 13 oil changes per BMW's CBS (Condition-Based Service) system.

No I get it. That’s not my report.
I fell into the “wives tail” once a year change even for low mileage vehicles. BlackStone has basically debunked those recommendations.
I do better now but I’m still too anal. My problem.

Update: I chickened out and just went to the dealership. Come to find out this second oil change was free, so there you go.

I keep it simple. I just buy the Motorcraft Oil, from Wal-Mart because they seem to have the best prices on it in 5qt jugs & I get the Motorcraft filter, because it's cheap.
And then I change it around every 7000-7500 miles.
If it's what the engine was designed & tested with, it's good enough for me.

Now, last week when I changed my diff & transfer case fluids for the first time, I went with all Amsoil products.
They make some good stuff & it will be in there for a few years, so I want the best for that.
