Cracked Hardtop

My ‘23 Black Diamond Hot Pepper Red Bronco has cracks in the hardtop passenger side near the tailgate. Dealer acknowledged it is a Ford defect, but because it is out of the 36k warranty, Ford is only willing to put 4K toward a 7k replacement! Even though there are thousands of the same issues with other hardtops! I read that there is an active tsb but dealer couldn’t find it. If you know what it is, please share. I’m going to try one time with customer care and then straight to BBB and internet. No excuse for not fixing your problem. Should’ve stayed with Jeep!!!

i have a 2023 2dr and I took it to the dealer and they said because i brought the car to them a few miles outside of base warranty, Ford would not cover full repair. Keep in mind i purchased the extended warranty as well.

Hey there. Can you send us a private message with more information? I’ll see how I can assist on my end.

Yep unfortunately the extended warranty does not cover the top.

for $130 I took care of the Problem myself.

@Danny1430 This may help you out. I bookmarked this Ford General Service Bulletin when it was released. It targets model year 21-23 Broncos with hardtops and has pictures of possible forms of damage to address warranty repair.

I have a 2022 Bronco Outerbanks 2 door hard top. Last May I brought it in because the back hatch glass hinge covers were melting. Ford advised me that all hard tops were defective and Ford was replacing the hard top and rear glass with new hinge covers. I had no cracks on my hard top. Just today I brought my Bronco back to the dealership because I noticed every corner on the hard top around each side window corners have all spider cracks. I also have noticed more air noise coming into the cab. Understanding how the fiber glass composite is molded with the inner part being a honey comb, the top is De-laminating. That has effected the integrity of the hard top structure. That being said, this becomes a major liability when the delaminated sections start flying off the vehicle and the roof is actually unsafe during and accident or role over. Fords vender has completely failed and should take full responsibility for this. As of today, I am 4 month past the one year parts warranty. Healey Ford adviced me that it would be over $6,000 for a new hard top. How is this fair to us consumers? What am I supposed to do? The dealership did file a claim with FMC. I am now to wait for an answer. If the top is not covered, I will be forced to part ways with one of the most enjoyable SUV' I've ever owned! Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still under OEM warranty for a bit, but plan to ditto @Jakob1972 with the bedliner spray if mine starts cracking. The aftermarket replacements are $uper $pendy. 😐

yeah I thought it was going to look super different going from MIC to black but it just looks clean and not like it is faded. I have not had one person notice it was different yet. it was super easy just taped off the seals and glass cleaned it with acetone then wiped it down with alcohol and shot the liner on. I started the process at 5:30 and by 10:00 I was cleaned up eating dinner

that’s great but there is a matter of principle here. This is clearly defective and systemic and Ford should make this right..!

I agree 100%. But I also know that I am nobody to a big corporation like that and it was worth my sanity to just fix their mistake and enjoy my Bronco. the roof to me is a very insignificant issue with the Bronco if it got bad enough I would just slap a soft top on it and carry on. I could still use the vehicle without a top (most of the time it is off anyway) Maybe it is because I come from the days where we were just hoping to get our Broncos at all.

I hate that you feel like you’re a nobody. I bought Ford stock when it was a little over a dollar a share and because the Stock did pretty well I decided to put my money where my mouth was and buy an actual Ford product. It was my first one. I can’t tell you how disappointed I’ve been with this episode and the way they handle recalls on my bronco. At the end of the day, all of us customers are “nobody“ but if enough of us nobodies, choose to take our business elsewhere maybe they will get the message. I was in the market for another bronco for my other son, but I have definitely put that decision on hold until I see how they handle this hard top.

I hear you. I have had nothing but Fords and Chevys(GMs) my whole life.
I actually think they are working on a recall for the hard tops but I just didn't have faith in the replacement and knowing there are people that have had 3-4 replacements I decided to go with the Devil I know over the Devil I don't.
