Bronco 2 door windshield wipers weird “feature” when on high or low speed

drove highway speeds (55-65 mph) during heavy rain and when the wipers are set to high or low speed, after 40 seconds they go into Intermittent and wipe every 5 seconds even during a downpour (have to reset the switch from high/low to off then back to high or low) . Intermittent switch setting works an normal And wipes every 5 seconds. My Bronco is not equipped with auto wiping.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think auto-wipers were an option. There is the feature that gives a delayed wipe after using the washer/spray, but other than that... I think you've found an issue.

There is no auto-wiping (rain sensing) wipers on the Bronco.

And sadly it's not special to just the 2 doors. I've had this for the last year now. Took in to dealer to have it checked out. Dealer said the tension on my wiper motor was set to spec. Also stated that these wiper motors are smart motors. Too much tension and they go to intermittent. I eventually gave up and just switch to intermittent when it happens, then go back to low or high speed. I'm tired of bringing my Bronco to the dealer only to leave it for a day and have the problems not fixed.

I just realized today that I have this same issue!! No matter what setting it is at, after a period of time they slow to intermittent every 5 seconds. Very frustrating when you are trying to focus on the road because you are driving in rain and then have to play with the wipers to be able to see! I am going to check in with my dealership tomorrow on this. I will post if there is a change in what the op got from their dealership.

Seriously what is up with these wipers? This is a safety issue. If you are in a massive downpour and put your wipers on High, they change to intermittent after a minute or two! WTF is that? We need to report this to NTSB.

I noticed the exact same thing this morning. Glad you posted this - will be taking to dealer for sure.

I drove down to California new years weekend and got caught in torrential downpour and flooding, I can say this issue is a safety hazard. Especially when I live in an area that rains 11.5 months a year.

So….. Ford knows about a BIG safety issue and there not doing sh** about it ….what … how many people have to die before Ford says oh we have a problem. This is typical of Ford. If it cost them money, they think about how many lives and the legal cost before they spend a dollar.. Fing Ford. Ford ..We all know you read the forms. Pull your head out of your A** . Maybe it will be one of your own family members that pass away before you realize this is something you need to fix.. remember karma is a bitch .
Sorry to BN ( the people that run this forum ) but things like this really pi** me off.

Never had an issue with my wipers, and we've had a TON of rain recently. Frustrating because I rather it be snow, but... eh... different topic.

My guess is there is a current sensor on the windshield wiper motors and if the current is too high it'll trigger a fault. I'd take it to a dealer and see if they'll do anything about it. If not, and you continue to have an issue... maybe a second dealer (some dealers are a pain in the ass). And if that doesn't work... NHTSA.

If you wanted to try to do something yourself, there is windshield wiper linkage that can be greased. It could simply be it doesn't have enough grease on the linkage which is causing the error. (That said, you have a warranty, so I'd take advantage of it.)

😲!! I have been trying to figure out if it is a setting or another glitch. 🤷🏻‍♂️. We got caught in a light to medium rain event and we had to reduce speed way too much for comfort.
Is there a fix from Ford for this?

FYI - there is a big thread on Bronco6G on this and we are reporting it to NHSTA. Please report it so Ford has to fix this big safety issue. https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/our-dangerous-advanced-bronco-wipers.64155/

My dealership said they are rain sensing and it is normal. My argument is that how can it be normal if I am driving in rain and it slows down…I can’t see. Something is wrong! I am going to call my salesperson at the dealership and talk to him about it. It’s not right! There is nothing normal about having to adjust the knob every 45 seconds!

Exactly. Although a lot of Fords have rain sensing wipers, the Bronco is not one of them.

Only really heavy rain I have been in with mine was the day I picked it up. Didn’t seem to have any problems with the wipers, but realized how spoiled I have become by rain-X. Treated all the glass the next day and switched to rain-X washer fluid as soon as the tank was empty. Hardly ever even run the wipers now.

Yep! I have asked my husband to rain-x mine! I thought maybe that would help me see better at least:)

Interesting, I have a basic Black Diamond 2 door and have not experienced this problem. Is this problem showing up in higher trim level / interior options?

Nope, I have a Base and it happens.
Explanation I got was (and may have posted it earlier in this thread), the wiper motor is a "smart" motor. When it senses too much resistance, it will slow wipers down to intermittent speed. My motor was checked, and was within Ford "spec" for what it should be. Problem still persists, I just gave up on trying to get it fixed.

Someone on B6G finally had a dealer replace his wiper motor. He reports the issue is resolved with the replacement. But, he had to actually take the service manager on a drive in a downpour before they FINALLY agreed there was indeed a problem. Prior to that it was the old "Cannot Replicate".
