Preparing for December 2020

As I finalized my 2021 Bronco build, I reached out to my chosen Ford dealer to “set the stage” so to speak.

I wanted to verify he has my reservation and my Ford account number on file. I also wanted to set up an appointment on December 8 or 9 to complete a Buyer’s Order, enter the codes into the Order Bank, verify the data entry, and finalize any additional deposit required. Seems simple enough!

I got chilled to the bone while working with the sales manager. Ignorance is rampant. Inability to execute a workable plan. What appears to me is the hope to “Clear the Que” of Bronco reservations so they can take delivery of Broncos and slap on additional dealer markups.

Brace yourselves for a potentially rocky road ahead!

I emailed my salesman over a week ago asking about updated pricing and a few other questions, haven't heard anything. He has usually been pretty responsive, guess I'll have to call up, thinking about switching dealers.

Let me elaborate on what caused my bone-chilling experience.

As the Sales Manager located my reservation, which is for a Wildtrak, I mentioned my desire to order a Badlands which I understand is AOK with Ford. He had a vastly different understanding of what is AOK with Ford. He believes the Order Bank will not allow him to change my model from a Wildtrak to a Badlands. His recommendation was to cancel my 07/14/2020 reservation and create a new one for a Badlands. I have not followed his direction and instead have begun locating a backup dealer. I have also begun a Wildtrak build in case the dealers have some inside knowledge.

I would be interested in hearing from other potential buyers especially after the Order Bank is open on December 7, 2020.

As I attempt to chill this AM, I am reminded of the old saying, “Take It Easy”! However, when it comes to buying a 2021 Bronco my old saying has been modified to, “I Will Take It Anyway I Can Get It”. :)

I understand why you are feeling a little uneasy but we both know the sales manager is obviously uninformed. It has been noted on many Ford communications that you will be able to change your model to anything but the FE. The only issue I see is if the sales manager won't even attempt to make those changes and then you will have to look elsewhere. It's a good plan to do your research on other dealerships if you have to resort to doing the switch.

which ford dealer are you using? I'm considering moving mine from Walls Ford in Salisbury.. because i've not purchased a Ford in almost 20 years.

I like your thinking! Thank you!
I am also reminded of the 2021 Ford Bronco motto, "Promises Made and Promises Broken".

My experience has been with Wall's Ford. I am now exploring the option of using AutoFair Haverhill, MA. Too early to tell if that will work well. Luckily, I have time. My recommendation regarding your journey to purchasing a Bronco is to, "Start Your Engine'!

My only email from Walls' was when i was looking for build options:
"
Hi Jeff,

You should be receiving an email when Ford will allow you to access those features. I can certainly reach out to you as well when we can begin that process also. Thanks again for your reservation and I'll talk with you soon!

Warm regards,
Greg Neptune"

I'm also hoping they dont' plaster that thing with their dealer logos or i'm not taking delivery.

I first heard from Julie Wall. (I assume one of the owners.) Then communications went dark.
Tried to reach Julie, she passed me off to Dave Friedman, the sales manager. Has gone downhill from there. There is time and hopefully, all will be fine.

I have a family member that is the GM of a Ford dealership. It’s a smaller lot with less than 40 Bronco reservations. I touch base regularly for any possible updates and Ford isn’t releasing any info, to the point that said family member has expressed a little frustration (probably from reservation holders asking questions that can’t be answered...haha!). I’m sure other dealers are more “connected” than mine but I’m confident the info just isn’t there and any dealer/sales manager is blowing smoke saying otherwise. That’s my opinion. The BN has inside access and when new info comes out, I think it’ll be here for all to digest.

Tasty!

Glad you did not take the GM's advice and cancel your reservation. Sorry to hear you are having difficulty. The Northeast has not been represented very well with dealerships stepping up with open communication and outstanding deals.

I am in Georgia and am purchasing from Granger in Iowa. None of the dealers around here are willing to do anything other than MSRP. We have roughly 50 reservations from the state that I am aware of that are purchasing from Granger. It is amazing the lengths that some of us have to go to in order to get a great deal from a straight forward dealer. Hope you get it all ironed out smoothly.

Cheers!

We all need to remember that this process is a new delivery paradigm for Ford on a brand new mass-market vehicle. Unfortunately, there are going to be bumps in the road as Ford tries to figure out and balance a centralized reservation system while still working through its dealer network (which it is probably contractually obligated to do as part of its dealership agreements). I'd imagine it simply takes time for Ford corporate to educate 3000+ dealers how its all going to work. Also remember, while we here on BN are razor focused on the Bronco, dealerships are trying to sell Mustangs, F-150's, Escapes, etc too, so they simply can't devote all their time and resources to the Bronco.

I hope over the next month Ford is able to get all its dealerships up to speed.

I'll definitely take this "new/bumpy" process over the old-days where we'd be fighting with each other down at the local dealership for whatever they ordered for their lot.

Good News!

I just got off the phone and have an appointment on December 9, 2020, at 10:00 AM to buy a 2021 Ford Bronco Badlands 2 door at Wall’s Ford in Salisbury, MA. Looks like Dave had a chance to sleep on our conversation and is welcoming me with open arms on 12/09. Not to worry, I will check to make sure my watch is still on my wrist after the meeting.

I will update our Forum with my outcome. Wish me luck!

I typically don't take whats off the dealer lot, i typically have a must have list, and if it's not on the lot, or i'm not willing to compromise, I make them order/find it. I'm happy to spend the time and energy on the journey to get what i want. Its definitely worth the wait, and anguish.

Finally got around to contacting all of the dealers around me. Mine finally responded and said they're selling at MSRP, as did most of the others. I found one near me doing $50 over invoice, switching to them today!
