Hard top cracking

Purchased 2023 ford bronco OBX non-sas a few months ago. Family has loved the vehicle, as it has quickly become the families primary vehicle.

I was recently reading on here about others experiencing cracking on their hardtop. Inspected my top and found cracks around driverside window for rear section. Pretty disappointing. I called my local dealer and they had never heard of this issue.

Sent the dealer pics via email (same as attached). And requested help with warranty claim. Waiting to hear back to schedule an appointment. I did verify that I am still within my bumper to bumper warranty.

But am wondering what others experience on this has been? Anyone know the details of the how ford is handling this issues as warranty claim? Also judging by my dealer lack of knowledge of this issue, should I be concerned about anything?

Thanks in advance for anything you can send my way

They will replace it under warranty. If it is just the back section they will just replace that. They will move the side and rear window to the replacement clam shell. If you have any issues tell them there is an active TSB.
I have had this done twice. Three times If you count the cracked top my dealer received as a replacement and had to send back.

Yup there are two type of MIC tops. Ones with cracks and ones that will crack. Don’t be surprised if you are on top number 3 or more before your warranty runs out. The cracks in my top are minor like the ones you are showing. I am out of warranty so I am just going to rhino liner the top to seal it up and live with it. It is unfortunate that these tops are so crack prone but I love the vehicle too much for that to bother me. Right now we are in top off season so mine has been off since early September.

“and they had never heard of this issue.”

As wide-spread as this problem is I find it hard to believe any dealer has not heard about it. Ford must train all their employees to say that anytime anyone comes in with any issue.

I have a ‘23 Wildtrak and the top has started to crack. I’m scared to try to replace it for fear the replacement will be worse, as I have heard is the case for several folks here.

Good luck with your claim. Let us know how it turns out for you.

My dealer said the same thing. It was the first one they’ve seen with this issue. It is a big dealer which is surprising. I had my middle and rear top sections replaced in September I believe with 1,500 miles. Now at 3,500 miles I am seeing additional cracks on the rear section near the side window. Also noticed a crack in the middle of the front driver section.

Hi there. I’d like to assist with your concern. Could you please send us a DM with your VIN and mileage so I can look into this further?

Sorry to hear about this. It is sad that so many have to live with this or deal with multiple tops. I hope this is not going to be one of those things we just shrug and say oh it’s a Bronco thing.

1772477643289.pngSo, is this how it all starts? A couple months ago I noticed 2-3 small cracks. This week while pumping gas the sun really lit it up! I’m 2 weeks from the 36 months mark (only 27k miles). Given the experiences of replacing a hardtop under warranty, and the horror stories of replacements performing worse that originals, I’m really undecided on what to do here. I’m favoring just letting it go and maybe trying a Rhino coating at some point, or complete aftermarket top. I’m curious if anyone here has done the Rhino and how is it holding up? Does it mitigate the cracking? Would you go that route again? I assume if I go Rhino it’s best to do it sooner than later? Thoughts, suggestions, and comments welcome.

Welcome to the Club. I can not give advice if you should get a replacement or not, but you have heard the stories. I Will be Raptor lining mine as soon as I decide if I want Black or Desert Sand. But I would say if you are going to line it sooner rather than later would be best because the inside is cardboard and once that starts to get wet and degrade the whole thing could fail.

@Jakob1972 I’m not familiar with Raptor lining. I’ll do some research on it. Is it similar to Rhino? DYI? Obviously it sounds like there are color options as well. Is it a smooth finish or textured?

Raptor liner is a DIY bed liner you can get it in a spray can or in bottles that attach to a gun you hook up to your compressor. I used it on my homebuilt squaredrop trailer frame. it is textured but depending on the pressure and the distance you hold the gun away will change the texture.

The dealer replaced my driver front panel, which took 8 hours because they had to get for approval. I thought that was strange since they already ordered the part. They wouldn’t submit a warranty claim for the rear because the crack can’t be captured well with a picture so they want me to wait for it to get bigger.
