I looked and looked and could not find an online link to this article, which I get in my paper subscription to what is now a quarterly magazine.
They made it nicer with big pics, nicer paper, etc. And the price went up.
So they ordered in 2022 a 4 door SAS, stick with 2.3. They got the hard roof but forgot to get the noise insulation added to the panels.
Truck did well, dealer 10k oil changes, (per factor recommendation, guess they aren't planning on keeping it.)
Their main complaints?
Truck was noisy. Yep I bet that 4 door with no insulated roof is noisier.
Truck was down on power. Yep you got the big truck and the small motor.
They were split on the manual; 50/50 liked/did not like.
So they added the factory tune.
Did not help the noise but did the power.
Then they smoked the clutch. That cost $2.5 k, at less than 40k.
Yeah Ford did not put the manual behind the V-6 for a reason.
And they did not add that to the total for vehicle maintenance figure. So ownership looked more appealing $ wise.
And went thru 2 windshields due to rocks.
So overall they liked it with some reservations.
And speaking of reservations, they ordered a new 2024. With the manual and small engine.
But with insulated roof panels. I guess at least they learned something.

They averaged 16 mpg and 7.4 sec 0-60 with clutch dumping at redline. They also had to replace the clutch. Makes a great case for a 2.7 auto.-

“Car & Driver”
He bemoaned the ride quality and the "smorgasbord" of wind and tire noise. More surprisingly, perhaps, was his distaste for the manual transmission. "Let's get this out of the way: I love manuals, and I wouldn't have a sports car without one. But this is about as far from a Mazda Miata or a Subaru BRZ as you can get." He called the Bronco's seven-speed "joyless, mechanically," and called out the lack of a rev-match feature and the laggy bar-graph tach. We're not sure that Dan ever had a honeymoon phase with this one.

If C&D are getting a late 2024 they will be getting a new roof IIRC. My original order I added the sound deadening headliner but when I switched to the Everglades I forgot to add the headliner. So I have a MY22 with no headliner and other than an I’ll fitting second row roof panel it is quiet enough. The roof panel let’s in some wind noise, it sounds like the rear passenger window it cracked open. Funny thing when I take the roof off I don’t hear it.
Also I find the 2.3l in a 4-door to be plenty powerful enough even pulling my teardrop trailer. But I don’t get to drive all the cars on the market to compare it to, so… And I don’t race the thing. I have never found my self needing it to be quicker and I don’t have the tune and run regular gas.
BN 1100, Desert Sand Everglades. Reservation 7/30/20. ordered 1/22/21, reordered 10/15/21 dropped tow and hard top, reordered 3/9/22 changed to Everglades. production date 9/7/22 rescheduled 9/14/22 completed 9/26/22, shipped 10/7/22, arrived 10/31/22, delivered 11/03/22

Yah nobody buys the 2.3 if they’re power hungry. No one can claim it doesn’t work at least for the short term. But a tune with the 7 speed sounds like a recipe for disaster, 5000 pounds countless transmission noises/rebuilds/repairs. A person that drives it like there’s an egg under the gas may make it work but who does? Better gas mileage than the six? Doubtful.
And these folks that complain about the noise? My 2 dr Sasquatch isn’t that loud unless I have a window down or the front top panel off and I also have A Magnaflow exhaust. I really don’t care to take the top off let alone the doors. Maybe off road but where I live most nobody off roads.

How the fuck did they smoke the clutch?

... 0-x test times most likely

Tune isn't a receipt for disaster, it actually makes it a ton better, especially with the rev matching. I also daily it in sport, slow car fast

Okay, seen this now, no wonder they smoked it.

Add a steeda clutch spring and a short shifter (Boomba or B&M) and it improves a lot. As far as the bar graph, I actually love it, just wish I could change the color though, I want BMW orange or Lesbaru Red

They should have realized it's not a normal car, they're spoiled testing everything from sports cars to luxury and even the boring shits, so this is outta whack for them. I gotta soft top and don't mind the noise, and not sure how you manage with 270hp vs 330, but to each his own. Few bucks more here in Jersey is worth it imo

car and driver jumped the shark when David E Davis left.

They have non driving staff.

They don't have the 2.7 in any vehicle with a manual box, thats why they don't have one in the Bronco.

Launching at redline with a slave cylinder clutch will ruin in short order. They don't know what they are doing, plain and simple. Most slaves have an adjustment for engagement speed, obviously they didn't change it.

They expect an SUV to be quiet like a Lincoln?

You said it yourself, they went to shit and hired collage kids with shitty degrees who think EV's are the best thing since sliced bread, no wonder they burned through the clutch
They expect an SUV to be quiet like a Lincoln?
They also probably drive it in Eco mode and used 87 while it was tuned. I mean shit, I knew it'd be loud, it's louder than I expected, but its not a surprise to be

These guys write better reviews, and are more with it

I dunno is this better than the 2.7l?
We checked it by hand too.

Oh yah nice to know. Can’t get that AVERAGE with any CRV or Mazda 3 I’ve ever had but somehow a 5300 pound Bronco can. Thanks but most folks will still rely on Car & Driver-😃
“Weighing 579 pounds more than the four-door 2.3-liter Outer Banks model we tested, our 5296-pound Everglades’ extra mass is a byproduct of its myriad add-ons, including the hefty Warn winch mounted on its snout. The added weight contributed to acceleration times that are the slowest of any Bronco we’ve tested to date.”

“Not only is the 2022 Bronco Everglades saddled with the smaller engine, but its EPA ratings are barely better than more powerful variants. It’s estimated to earn 18 mpg city and 17 mpg highway, with a combined rating of 18 mpg. At least it lived up to expectations on our 75-mph fuel-economy route, matching its government highway figure”

This was on our trip to Moab a few weeks ago. I was pulling our 26’ travel trailer with our MY22 4 cylinder Chevy Silverado getting 11-12mpg and the wife was following along behind, she found the Broncos sweet spot and got similar numbers the whole 10 hours that leg of the trip. It settles in at about 67 mph. Got similar numbers on our trip to the Everglades last year doing the same thing. Maybe removing the roof rack makes that big a difference.😁

I'll see your 16 and raise you 40+ with my Focus😆
Can't imagine how bad it would be with the 6 and a slushbox.

Yah gas mileage isn’t a surprise or a concern.

When I reserved my Bronco in 2020 it was pretty much just a concept, no one had seen or driven one. I had two years to read the reviews. They were better than I anticipated.
Most of the comments from magazines and web were very positive. I changed my order to a Sasquatch after doing a lot of reading.
It is what it is. Zero surprises for me except how much better it drives than I first anticipated.😃

I notice everyone is talking about the HP difference between the 2 engines but I would say what I really like about my 2.7 is the smooth low end torque, but yes top end is nice too, this truck will scoot to 80 plus pretty damn fast if asked to....
