Are Broncos Accident Magnets?

I am always seeing forum posts about how peoples new Bronco was in an accident.

Well this is what happened to me yesterday...

Idiot (the guy in the picture) made a left turn in front of me (and another vehicle) at a traffic light controlled intersection. Other vehicle was just far enough back that they avoided it but stopped to provide a witness statement.

I was taking my wife to the dentist over in the big city (pop 15K). We are ok but being legally blind she couldn't see it coming so didn't brace and got beat up by the seatbelt pretty hard.
Air bags didn't deploy as it was a glancing blow.

Cops/EMS/Fire responded super fast (literally minutes) and ended up citing the other driver.

The car wasn't even the other driver's and they just fucked over the friend that let them use the car. Driver had no insurance but unknown about the vehicle's owner. So mine quickly stepped up

Good insurance helps. They set up the repair shop already and got us into a rental in just a few hours. After the rental place (there's only ONE out here) said they had nothing available until Friday
Possibly totaled, as when I went to tow yard to get my things we saw the passenger side frame was shoved into the tire on that side. We had to use quite a bit of force to open my wife's door to get her out at the scene. Looks like entire front of Bronco has been shifted towards passenger side of vehicle.

That is sad I hope the wife feels better soon. And glad everyone is OK.

To answer your question yes new broncos seem to attract the less than good drivers. The first year with Darryl every time we drove it someone would run a red light or change three lanes of traffic to make a turn. We got so when we were driving we would just expect some moron to do the stupidest thing you could think of and they usually did so we were ready for it. In the last 1.5 years that has seemed to calm way down, so I guess it is only new Broncos.
I hope they get you fixed up or in a new Broncos soon.

Edit: stupid autocorrect

It didn't hit me until late last night that the whole time multiple cops, EMTs and Fire are processing the scene I'm standing there with an open carry pistol on my hip and not a word was said about it.

Then the cop gave my wife and I a ride to the car rental place in her cruiser.

Man I LOVE Arizona.

Sorry to hear that. Hope your wife heals quickly and glad neither of you were hospitalized. I think there are just alot of terrible drivers out there. Also many people driving without insurance and even without licenses. Glad you have good insurance! I do see alot off Broncos on the salvage auction sites, outside of off roading mishaps I think this is primarily for 2 reasons. 1 Broncos are up higher so alot of damage comes from other vehicles/objects going low or underneath and wreaking havoc on suspension and frames ect. Additionally I think where alot of other vehicles would go straight to the crusher or wrecking yards for parts the Broncos stay intact enough for those who are inclined to get them back on the road or trail.

extra sad to see this happen to a 2 door Wildtrak. I have an OBX but would have gone Wildtrak if I could have gotten a 2 door

Happy to read that, despite the Bronco's condition, the wife and you didn't require any hospitalization right after the accident. I hope she feels so much better soon.

The main difference between crappy drivers there and here in my largely urban locale is that daytime speeds here can be slower just because traffic sucks. So any meeting of two vehicles can be simple fender benders -- unless they're fleeing from someone, anyway or plainly disregarding the speed limit. Hoping for the best outcomes for your Wildtrak. I have one too, but it's a "Mor-door." 😅

If they do total it. this could be the next Pew Pew Cachoo race rig.

I am surprised the airbags didn't go off that might save it from being totaled. this looks like my buddies wildtrak (moredoor) they had two wrecks and neither one totaled it neither accident set off the airbags.

That's tough luck. I think you're right though. It's like moths to a flame seems like. I stick to driving my Bronco to and from the trails. And on them of course. I drive my beater to run errands around town and people seems to steer clear of it for whatever reason. Anyway glad y'all are ok.

I went to swap the rental (Genesis G70) for a more appropriate vehicle for the 10 miles of dirt to our place and had to straighten out a towing issue before Bronco could be transferred to body shop. Which happened today with the expectation I would hear how the estimate goes next week.

The manager at Enterprise offered to give me a huge Mercedes SUV (for the $50/day the insurance is paying) and I almost took it. But then thought better as it had California plates (a cop magnet out here) and WAY more tech then I wanted to learn for a short term rental. So I got a Hyundai Kona instead.

Looks like they will be able to fix it.

Estimate was $20,373.52 of which $500 is my deductible.

According to KBB that is a few grand under 50% of its value

Only fixable since air bags didn't deploy or that would have put cost WAY over 50% of value

Hopefully it is repaired to your satisfaction, and to spec. Where in AZ are you?

Getting repaired in Show Low

I was concerned about the frame until a Ford Tech on another forum posted that the ends (which are toast on mine) are a replaceable item to the main frame section

My mistake on the Bronco estimate. Turns out that was just the initial look and now State Farm has given them the go ahead to tear it apart and dig deeper.

So still could end up a total loss.

And apparently my Bronco is worth less than I thought (or they are using the lower end of spectrum as the basis) as the $20k is close to 65% of value. 75% is a loss.

Some vehicles get bad rap because of the drivers they attract. BMW went through this.

Location has a factor in it too, my insurance guy told me most accidents happen within 2 miles if my house so I moved.

As far as being an accident Magnet:

There is the old adage "you go where you are looking".... Anybody learn that one?

It would suggest other people can not take their eyes off the Bronco.... Just sayin....

After our accident my wife had been hurting more then I thought was normal for a seat belt bruise. So Saturday I took her to the bigger hospital in Show Low (pop 15K plus thousands of tourists) to visit the Urgent Care. Well the empty UC told us she had to go to the packed ER instead. So 4 hours later, with us being no closer to getting seen then when we walked in the door, we left.

Sunday I took her to the smaller hospital in Springerville (pop 5K) and we were in and out in 3 hours. They did blood work, x-ray and CT scan. Results were that her sternum was broke in the accident. Everything was still in correct place but she will be in pain for roughly the next 6 weeks.

Broken sternum is no fun. I hope she heals soon and is pain free. You can claim that medical on your insurance.

Got the call yesterday.
After the shop pulled things apart to further investigate the damage, my Bronco has been deemed a total loss.

Value was set at $50,747.22 and after paying off my loan I will see $5,397.31 back into my pocket.

Going to the shop today to pull off some aftermarket stuff the insurance isn't paying for.

As a replacement I am currently deciding between a 2024 Heritage Limited in Peak Blue or a 2025 Stroppe. Both are used 2 doors with the V6
