Pinto 2.0. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. We always get fooled again. New fuel injectors would be simpler, cheaper and far safer. Hey atleast wasted gas is cheap right? And loss of power during driving is fine.

This is kinda weird in that my 2022 Escape had gotten a recall fix for this issue over a year ago. Unless this is something new. There was however, a second engine issue that as of trading it in a couple of months ago, had no fix. Maybe that was what this was about. It was a great vehicle, a little small, but a great vehicle. That being said, getting a notice that if it started making any weird noises from the engine, to stop driving it. And, oh, don’t park it in the garage, didn’t quite cut it.

Ain't no joke - This from Ford:

Recall Reference Number: 22S73

There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our customers, which is why Ford is issuing a safety recall on some 2021, 2022 and 2023 Bronco Sport and 2020, 2021 and 2022 Escape models. There is a chance the fuel injector can crack, which may lead to an underhood fire. If you own or lease a Bronco Sport or Escape from these model years, you can check your recall status by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) here.

The updated software and parts needed to complete this service are now available. You can book an appointment online, in your FordPass App, or contact your local Ford Dealer. A Mobile Technician may be available to inspect and service your truck where you are and at your convenience.

A strong smell of gasoline can be a sign that your SUV may have a cracked fuel injector. If you smell gas or smoke, or see smoke, park your SUV in a safe location and contact your Ford Dealer to have your vehicle inspected.

Please know that we are working diligently and appreciate your patience. For questions or concerns about the 2021—2023 Bronco Sport and 2020—2022 Escape SUV safety recall 22S73, please call 1-866-436-7332. A Ford Recall team member will be happy to assist you.

Ford says "22S21 was issued in late March and relates to issues with the engine oil separator (a vast majority of customers have already addressed this recall). 22S73 is a different recall related to potential issues with the engine’s fuel injectors."

With this "solution" I don't know how Ford can expect anyone to take them seriously or at their word on that first sentence.

Yeah, unfortunately Ford mgmt's treating these injector fuel leaks as warranty repairs as leaks actually happen .. and their customers notice these leaks .. and have an opportunity to schedule repairs with a dealership .. and a repair is completed.

This approach apparently assumes their recall's drain & de-tune are 100% effective, and there are only small leaks, that do not develop into underhood or full vehicle or more fires before the above process - fuel leak/detection/scheduled repair/repaired.

Obviously, their assumption is wishful thinking. Even Ford reports there have been 5 underhood fires related to their leaking fuel injectors.

IMO, Ford's recall 22573's drain tube & engine de-tune solution disregards public safety, reputational risks and current owners' (that would be us) significant investment in their products. We can imagine the wrongful death litigation that could quickly develop if/when there are deaths related to Ford's leaking fuel injectors..

Sorry if I sound too critical maybe even harsh - I'm pissed!!

6 people lost their lives between the Pinto solution being realized and it being executed. Nowadays they're far more cavalier and they don't even make the dealerships honor the recalls if they don't want to and even so you're without a vehicle for indefinite periods. It saddens me to say but I don't think @Ford Motor Company (FOMoDisasterCo) is going to last.

Yeah, I remember the Pinto as Ford's fun little Japanese challenger, but I'm no historian. Sadly, their fuel tank was poorly designed and horribly located, exposed to rear-end collisions. There were too many videos of blazing Pintos. These engineering mistakes were exacerbated by completely irresponsible mgmt decisions - Almost destroying Ford Motor Company..

I REALLY hope this Bronco Sport injector problem doesn't force a rerun of that Pinto experience. Frankly, I don't think today FoMoCo would survive as an individual company.

And that would make me very sad.

I mean, we really enjoy Ford vehicles - They're FUN to drive!! Is there anything within 2x the price of the feeling of a Mustang GT's acceleration?? Also, our Bronco's a pleasure to highway drive 1,200 miles - Then spend hours off-roading rugged terrain to a 'best-on-plant-earths' wilderness location!

I really hope this fuel leak issue doesn't crash FoMoCo. Sure, it could happen - Pray it doesn't..

Cheers

I'm with you. The sad reality is had Ford made better decisions in responding the Pinto would have been known for far better reasons. The sales numbers were a runaway success until they ignored, ignored, ignored and then waited too long to react. Sounds all too familiar. Fun fact the front ends were later used in the Pinto Stangs and Foxes. All the aftermarket hod rodding manufactures use these front ends as the blueprint to this day. As revolutionary as it was despite being rushed it's remembered for ALL the wrong reasons and that sits squarely on bad management. Seems like Farley on down are using the same play book.

Hopefully the injectors lead to fewer deaths then the former.

Ugh. So reality check. Just 27 people were killed in Pinto rear-end collisions that involved a fuel leak and fire. The internet has the actual truth about the Pinto if one cares to go find it. Most Ford aficionados know the real story.

This recall has nothing to do with the Pinto. All of what you wrote has no basis in fact and is pretty much just internet crap. 🤣🤣🤣

The Pinto was quite popular and had larger annual unit sales than the Mustang for most years from 1971 thru 1979.
