Is there enough of a difference in ride to justify switching from OEM 225/65/R17 to 235/65/R17 tires?

I am sure this question gets asked a lot! I built my 2022 BSBL with the stock 225/65/R17 tires to save money and am considering up-sizing tires to the 29" 235/65/R17. I am even curious about 245/65/R17, which would probably be more noticeably different.

I am aware of the likely inaccuracy that will occur in my speedometer, but am wondering if it is enough of a difference to avoid up-sizing the tires all together. Additionally, will it even make that much of a practical difference other than looks? We are talking about only a 1/2 inch increase in overall diameter, and even less of an increase in width.

Thanks for the help! There is a lot of information out there and I am trying to parse it out. See below:Screenshot 2024-01-09 151134.png

This is not the same tire as the stock Pirelli. Look on Discount Tire website under Pirelli All Terrain tires. This tire is more expensive than stock tire $ 245.00 ea. Also more aggressive than stock tire.

Looks pretty sweet!

Good Chart, Thanks. It looks like even up to 70 mph that you would scarcely attract attention by the LEO's

Haha, if I haven’t attracted their attention by now with how I rip around in this thing, I doubt this will do it!

It really seems like speedo not off at all so far. I don’t get it! Maybe need to try highway at higher speed.

We upgraded to 235/65-17 Falken Wildpeak AT2 tires on the wife's Sport from the 225/65 Pirellis. I found the factory settings for the Falken tires and set hers to the same diameter with Forscan. We checked it with a GPS and it was off by a noticeable amount so I reset it back to stock so I had a known starting point. It was dead nuts accurate then with the bigger tires. So don't assume that the speedo is correct with the stock tires - it may be off. Check it with a GPS before you make any changes

Well here they are! Feel great so far (haven’t driven that much since a couple hours ago lol). Definitely got the looks though!

Firestone Destination 235/65/17

Call me crazy, but it doesn’t seem like the speedometer is off at all! Do you think Ford anticipates that a lot of people with the BL trim are going to upsize tires and calibrates them accordingly?

Also, mechanic inflated to 38 psi, 6 psi higher than recommended. Is this because it’s midwinter in PA? Or did he mess up? Or is that related to the tire?

I have a 2022 BSBL and I put on a set of Falken Wildpeak AT3W's in a 245 65 R17. I have been really happy with them. I lost about 2.5mpg in fuel economy, but I feel that they have helped on rough roads and dirt roads. I'm also really happy with how the vehicle handles the snow with these tires. They look great, and give a great stance. Hope this helps.

I think Ford calibrated the spedo for the larger tire and you might want to check your tire pressure first thing in the mourning and set them to the OEM recommended psi. While a higher pressure may increase mpg a little, the car won't handle as well as the factory intended. Also, you may want to work on keeping the shinny side up! ;)

I put 245x65xR17's on my Badlands with no clearance issues. I went with Falken AT3W's and I really like them. I run them at 38psi as well. They perform well and don't make a lot of road noise, plus they look great on the car. I just had an Eibach pro-lift kit put on the other day that raises the front 1" and the rear 3/4". The kit is basically a spring upgrade. After a day on the kit, I have noticed a distinct improvement in the ride and drivability of my BSBL. It has smoothed out the ride and the sharp bumps are not as jarring as the stock setup. I have also noticed the handling in the curves is much improved. Overall, I think it was worth it. I'm looking forward to trying off-road this year!
