Darn this isnt something i'm happily posting about :(

Today on my 'finally got my Badlands order in' test drive,
Clearly could see hood vibration in the middle area. Which is the larger flattish area inbetween the formed raised left & right sides, which did not vibrate.

While stopped & engine on.
( turned off start/stop immediatly after turning on engine)
Could see the sun shinning on hood jittering/vibrating. Slightly yet noticeably too look at it.

On the fwy at 70mph, yes its noticeable. Where i would say from vibrate to then a flappy vibration.
:(

Sales guy is VERY good about details and knowledge.
He and i were going to look under the hood anyway...so we did.
He suggested, give it the best look over you can and move it around.
He commented air does get in there. They are built with aluminum. He commented other vehicles in the line up do this. He mentioned a few f150 being one.

So the hood is very light, as it should be because it's made out of aluminum. But I noticed the brackets that attach the hood to the vehicle seem to be very small.
They have a small attachment point. Not broader that may support some rigidity???
What I did was put left hand to the left corner, right hand of the right corner and sort of flex it.
give hood sort of like a little manipulation... the hood clearly can move a lot. (i'm talking about twisting)...yes bow'ing the hood!
And could move it to left & right.
( like a loose old wooden chair kinda thing)

I went back to my 2010 Tacoma just to check that out and it's definitely firm does not fluctuate or oscillate or twist in any way. Sturdy.

So... now I have read up about a little bit of Ford aluminum hoods and see that this is a discussion on other Ford product forums.

Okay now I said all that...
Anybody else notice this?
Or checking it out?
Or any feedback.

Thanks,
sorry to bring up this topic but ya know it's the website for it.

Well at the end of the day I think this whole hood flutter thing is being made a bigger deal than what it really is. There is no additional road noises or any other noise. I don’t even know it is there unless you really sit there and stare at it I really don’t think it’s a big deal honestly. My seat adjustment and eye level is just fine was on the highway yesterday cruising at 77 mph and could barely tell that my hood was moving and I have cyber orange. Let’s just enjoy this bronco for what it is.

Ok your advice is
its there but dont let it bother you. Just enjoy it.

When i started this thread
I drove a badlands that deffinetly had annoying movement.

Went and drove others to sample the issue.
It was not as common on others.
But there was another that also jounced a bit.
Again most no issue.

That said
I wouldnt want to buy one if it had extreme flutter like the original one, until it was amended.

*some folks dont test drive on the fwy. Some dealerships wont let you.
Its simply a buyer heads up.

As for other issues, havent noticed reading about reaccuring other
issues. So thats good!

Yeah I must say honestly driving it every day on highway and roads I just don’t hardly notice a flutter at all and I have adjusted my seat to view at different eye levels. My badlands seems to be pretty rocksolid. I love it and wouldn’t change a thing.

Again drove a badlands sport with hood flutter. Yuck!
Even while stopped engine on
Hood shimmies/vibrate in the mid section towards the glass.
Heres the results~
After test driving
Grand Cherokee
Cherokee
Renegade
NO hood issues with these jeeps.

Test drove
Subaru
Outback
Forester
Ascent
NO hood issues.

Test drove
Toyota rav4
No hood issue

Along with having driven many other vehicles and never experience that hood issue.
Have decided to say
Good bye to ford.

Thankfully
Subaru has realesed the
*Wilderness package!
(upgraded aprx. 1" off-road suspension nice black wheels with yokohama geolanders A/T G015. Skid plates and tow hooks)
on the Outback
And will be arriving shortly on the
Forester.
All wheel drive All the time is great!
After looking at and driving the already released wilderness Outback trim
Which has 9.5" ground clearance...
Really like it but prefer the shape of Forester and dash layout better~

My choice is
Forester Wilderness.
Easy getting in and out, excellent head room and 10ft more cubic interior cargo room than sport.
Noticiably more rear seat leg room)
Must say much prefer the screen integrated into the dash in Subaru!
Drive confidence and roomy!

Well I don't understand this at all and here is why. The Badlands version of the Bronco Sport has a hood insulation installed underneath because of the 2.0 engine making the hood heavier and slightly more stable. The other versions of the Bronco Sport do not have this insulation and are having some issues with hood flutter...see example of a Badlands insulated hood.20210616_150416.jpg
I have never had a issue with any type of even the slightest hood flutter in my shadow black Bronco Sport Baldlands!
If you are that worried about add a factory Ford hood scoop. I personally wanted something that looked good and was just a little different! (Don't forget the hood shocks to eliminate the hood prop). It's all in what you make it or how much you want to complain!2nd install us with instructions 5.jpg

I have noticed this too but it is ever so slight and definitely not even hardly noticeable or a distraction. I’ve also noticed our 2015 suburban does it as well. Bottom line, everyone is making a bigger deal out of this than what it is.

I agree. I’ve asked multiple passengers of mine about it and none of them have noticed it until I tell them, and even now that they know it’s there it doesn’t bother them. I feel the same way about it

Picked up my Wildtrack and drove 1265 miles home.
Im not a Ford guy, so was a leap.

That said, I was well pleased by so much of the Bronco, that the hood issue, well will deal with.

1st, the Bronco exceeded my expectations

2nd, the hood.
On a 1265 mile drive, seeing the reflection of the sky for hoooours..

1. Wide flat area is a design flaw
..when coupled with the shape of Bronco front

2. Flat front is like a flat faced 18wheeler.. it plows forward

3. Air is forced down and up
..down is road and under
..up is least restriction

4. Flat faced plowing forward
Air rushes UP, there is a rolling down pressure behind it
..similar to an eady on a river that rolls back to fill on

5. It CAVITATES which is a concern, as metal cavitating creates weakness.

6. It began to be noticable above 40

7. Bumps in road NOT a factor

8. The cavitating INFLECTION of a large area of the hood is from CAVITATING airflow rolling down on the hood

9. In a wind tunnel, cavitation may not be noticed, because of steady wind in test, but you should see the inflection.

10. Road wind currents are not perfect wind thus visual CAVITATION as some call flutter.

Concern: INFLECTION of large area of the hood, which CAVITATES.

Cause: From 1265 mile monitoring, Air flow from flat front coming up, and the air rolling down to fill in.

This is significant and will create metal fatigue, stress cracks and or paint peel.

I expect this will become a recall and plan to document and have notified dealer.

Otherwise, its a joy to own.

FYI, this thread is about possible issues with flutter some have experienced with their Bronco Sport hood, not the big Bronco. I have both vehicles and have some limited "flutter" at higher speeds above 60mph in windy conditions with the Sport (now at 25k miles). On my FE Bronco (delivered in Dec and approaching 5k miles) I have seen zero flutter in a wide range of driving conditions. including highway above 80mph.

I have not tried it myself, but I am seeing reports of people using air hose cut to length and slid into the rubber seal near the firewall that the hood closes on to help with the hood flex.
