Acceleration Lag

I posted this as a comment in a really old thread, but figure it might be best to just start my own post. I have a 2022 Bronco Sport Big Bend. It has had a plethora of constant issues and the dealership groans when I bring it in and tells me my car has gremlins. Bluetooth connectivity, modem went out, replaced the APIM, daytime running lights coming on or staying on whenever they feel like it (even after replacing the headlight switch), EVP went out, several powertrain failure messages that they reset and don't come back for awhile, backup camera coming on when driving forward, rear differential going out, etc.... but the lagging/shuddering issues are much more concerning to me because they are a serious safety issue.

I have have talked to the dealership about it so many times. They tried telling me when it was only a few weeks old that it was normal and that the turbo gets bogged down in high heat weather. I knew it was not true because this is not the first turbo engine I've had but they claim it never duplicates for them. They kept telling me not to run it in eco mode but I never put it in that mode. Then last time they told me to keep it in sport mode. Yesterday it hit 80 degrees and I was almost t-boned trying to get out of my housing development. I hit the accelerator and it just bogs down in slow motion for several seconds before revving up and snapping out of it. It does it in sport mode or regular mode. I'm worried this one is going to kill me and my kids at some point!! I've also documented with the dealer (and of course they claim it wont duplicate even though I show them videos of it) that when you are going slow like in a parking lot or drive through and try to accelerate slowly it has a bad vibration and you have to let off accelerator and try again to make it stop. It's screaming transmission issues but now almost 2 years and 50k miles of talking to the dealership about this and paying $100 now each time while its on Ford's extended warranty, its getting old. I did have a friend of a friend who works in a transmission shop ride around with me a year ago and then talked to the dealership service manager and said it had a shift studder and possibly more going on and they got super offended or something. Kept the car for days and then told me nothing was wrong.

Generally when I show them video of things, they finally get fixed. When my rear differential was having issues I took it in several times and they told me nothing was wrong before bringing in videos but now they wont even help after video. I sent them pics and video of my radio bumping and daytime running lights on 45 mins after going in a store (and the radio time pauses so it showed the time 45 mins before) and security camera footage of my lights randomly coming on in the middle of the night but tell me nothing is wrong. They told me the break squeal was normal until I showed them a TSB for it. It's beyond frustrating so if anyone has any advice, I would very much appreciate it .

Based on all the issues, sounds like a lemon to me. I would trade it in for a new one. Reminds me of my cruze that spent 4 weeks in the shop for just electrical gremlins I only owned it for a few weeks at that point. If it's a headache now you will never truly enjoy it.

I’m really sad reading through story and also incredibly amazed at how patient you’ve been to try to make your Bronco work for you. I‘m also wondering if you tried to take the service tech on a ride-along so the get to experience your concerns, and maybe scare the beejezus out of them when the truck refuses to accelerate. At this point, I think you might want to explore how to declare this a lemon…

If it's got gremlins I'd try to get it traded especially while it's still under warranty. A 22 is likely outside of your states lemon laws threshold, but the dealership may work with you on trading and wholesale-ing it or trading it to another dealership since it sounds like they're sick of dealing with it. You're lucky that you have a dealership that atleast helps you. Around here the dealerships just ignore recall and warranty work they just don't want to deal with them.

You are a much more patient person than I am @steph69camaro

Ideally you should address these issues while still within the Lemon Law time frame however, this period may have already lapsed. If so, I would suggest trading or selling your Bronco and get a replacement vehicle (Bronco) that operates properly and is safe transportation for you and your family.

Get off the hamster wheel, stop chasing bad money with good and move on - life is short and you deserve better!

Good luck!

yes they wont let you drive but I did have one on one occasion. He only would go about a block but he did hear the rear differential issue and that got fixed. It was VERY hard to get them to agree to it.

this time period has been very unclear to me so much mixed info online and from dealer. The time in California is 4 years but not sure on mileage. The car is not even 2 years old yet BUT it does have 52k miles on it now because I go to the coast at least twice a month to see my college kid. I have documented the issues from a week after having the car though. I asked the dealership about lemon law at around 3k miles and the service manager told me it wasn't eligible. But then a few months ago the new service manager recommended me to call Ford and do it. I spent HOURS on the phone with Ford and they kept transferring me all over the place and I would have to re- go over everything before finally on one of the transfers they hung up on me. I have not had the energy or patience to try again lol Unfortunately due to a divorce I am a single mother of 4 kids now with a new job and 3 of those kids in college doing it all on my own or I would have gotten a new car a long time ago. Once I get enough job history and can get an auto loan then maybe that will be my next step

"I have a 2022 Bronco Sport Big Bend. It has had a plethora of constant issues" And I have none of the problems you describe.... yet...? I'v got a gripe over the sunvisors, and....... hmmmm? Nothing comes to mind. I'm at 3,670 miles now and have settled down to 31.5 miles per gallon. Passing is very surprising and comfort ....well so-so.. The seats are good looking but have a feel of setting on piping or frame or some such. I have used Shell and Marathon regular gas in mine since new. I have just come up on the dash warning "low washer fluid" but that is about it. From this next fill-up forward I will be using 93 octane exclusively and then determine the difference in power and mpg. Fortunately I skipped past the injector thingie Recall with it not affecing my Big Bend.

I certainly sympathise with you of course, and hope you find resolution quickly and even perhaps a dealer that stands behind their product. That's about all I have to add. All my experiance since October 12th 2023.

I certainly have a ways to go since I barely manage 17 mpg with mostly city driving. May I know what your driving conditions are?

We are talking about a Bronco Sport.... yes........ Yep, checked twice. I can't believe your getting that low of mpg ? wow. Are you a sprinting lead foot in town or ? Me..............I'm just a senior in a small town area of North Carolina and just do what trafic is doing, and mostly never over the speed limit...... well on the highway 2-3 mph more or less ?
City driving.... do you accelerate quite briskly ? Boy seventeen miles per.....? NOT acceptable at all. Perhaps you might look further into a 'Lemon Law'
