Exactly what the title states - putting a thread together where we can come and post little tidbits of anything we have done today, and as we build them to our own tastes.

Bronco's 3Q24 sales were another down qtr - Numbers ain't pretty!! YTD unit sales down 16%'s a big number. Tread isn't helping, 3rd qtr down 19%. Seems most peeps that want a Bronco, have a Bronco..

Installed some IAG molle, and buttoned up my radio install. Pics in my build thread. IAG threw in some paracord OS handles too, I guess b/c I’ve ordered a bunch from them.

Wired up my new Midland GMRS. still waiting on the console molle panel to get here before I button it all up.

I need to add a legit hardwire GMRS radio.. Right now all I have is a handheld..

Nice! I see you are using the 'rear' camera as a front trail camera the same as I did..

Side question: Does your driver side sun visor fold all the way forward without hitting the mirror? Mine does not. Passenger side does but not the driver side..

Yeah it hits a little but it still useable. I do get the OEM mirror mount so it is not attached directly to the factory mirror. The mount has a ball joint maybe ii can push a little farther to the passenger side it will clear fully. I find it is not as mirrored as I thought it was. it is just like a glossy TV screen turned off. It is reflective but very dark.

Personally, I run an Icon 2730a ham rig with the Mars Mod so that I can run GMRS and 2 meter ham out of the same radio. And, yes, I know it's against FCC rules, but I'll take my chances. It's also a much nicer rig than the Midlands IMNSHO. I can program it pretty easily with their software or Chirp. It allows me to basically be on two different frequencies (channels) at the same time if I want to. We do this a lot on runs I lead where the leader and the tailgunner use one channel (freq) and the entire group uses another so I can "watch" both at the same time.

For you radio nerds this radio has a double conversion superheterodyne receiver which is much better than the Homodyne or Direct Conversion receivers used on the more inexpensive radios. Don't get me wrong wrong, I love the inexpensive hand held radios as well. I have a few of them so that if we have some folks on the run that don't have a radio, or the right kind of radio, we can loan them out and they are fine for that.

Lastly, I keep a couple hand helds in the Bronco so if my wife or myself leave the Bronco we always take a radio with us. Having a radio is, IMNSHO, more than just a convenience. It's about safety both while you're in the Bronco, and when you're out of the Bronco.

I always have a radio but most of my off-road trips are solo.. When I do go out in a group the handheld does the trick but a hardwire solution would be better..

I think you and I have talked about this before. As you know, I'm not a big fan of solo trips, but, hey, if you're prepared enough, and enjoy the solitude, I completely understand. But if you are counting on a 50 watt GMRS radio to get to help in an emergency you may be disappointed. That why I carry is a satellite communicator from Zoleo so if I'm out of cell range, and it's an emergency, I can get ahold of help quickly. They aren't as expensive as a satellite phone, but still use the iridium satellite network which is nearly everywhere.

I have a Garmin inReach Mini for emergencies..

I've been going solo for 35+ years. I know my limits and capabilities. There have been a few times where I've ended up in sticky situations but I try my best to avoid them.. If I am not comfortable with something I a) take a bypass or b) turn around and abandon the trail. I have no shame in taking a bypass or in abandoning a trial.

Yeah, the inReach is great as well! Like I said, going solo is a personal choice. Sounds like you've been doing it for a long time, and you're equipped for it. What worries me is when newbies decide to go on some 7 or 8 rated trail all by themselves without the right recovery gear or experience. That's the reason I always recommend to folks not to go solo until at least they have some experience under their belt and have the right gear. Even then, bad things can happen even to experience people and having a satellite communicator is a great way to ensure you can always reach help.

I could be wrong but I think the new iPhones have emergency satellite capabilities as well.. I might look into it and if true, ditch my inReach mini (and it's subscription plan) at my next phone upgrade..

yeah the iPhone might be good enough. It's not got NEARLY the features that my Zoleo does, however, but for the price, it's hard to beat a built in feature of the iPhone.

I think that the biggest difference is that the iPhone need to be pointed at the satellite and constantly adjusted which could be a PITA. Also, my Oleo has MUCH better battery life and is more rugged.
