Wherever you go, there you are!

Aug 11, 2024

I have about 6,000 miles on my 6 month old Bronco and while yes, I do take it off-road quite a bit in very dusty and dirty condition I always take the air filter out afterward and use an air hose to blast most of the dirt and dust out..

After my previous off-road outing, I realized it was already at its end of life. Photos don't really do it justice, but it's a goner!

I found a 2 pack on Amazon for $26. The dealer wants like $50 each for a stock air filter. These Amazon ones actually look and feel exactly like the official Ford filters so I wonder if they are made at the same plant.

Anyways, if you need to replace your air filter, check these out. $26 for 2 of em'

that's only after 6k miles? Daggum!! Placing order for my replacements........... Thanks for the link!

Mine is 4 wheeled all the time in dirty and dusty conditions, with the top off, so maybe that's why mine was so filthy..

As cheap as they are, might as well swap them out..

I got two air filters and two cabin air filters. $44.40 for my total order. Not bad. That’s $10.10 per filter! 🤓

I haven't used K&N filters in YEARS because I hated the whole cleaning process I had to do before I could drive again. If I need to start replacing every 6K I would absolutely go back to them.

Even at $26 for 2 you could drop the $100 on 2 K&Ns and just always have a clean one on the shelf and it make more sense financially in 24K miles.

K&N has disposable versions that are like $20 for a 18K mile disposable $35 for a 24K mile disposable. They also offer the one with lifetime warranty for something like $75.

I suppose you could buy one with the lifetime and then get the 18K mile version for emergency use if you need to get the lifetime warrantied one replaced under that warranty..

K&N's lifetime warranty is only valid If you do not off-road:

*snip

WHAT DOES THIS WARRANTY NOT COVER?
This warranty does not cover damage due to (a) transportation, (b) storage, (c) improper use, (d) failure to follow the Product instructions or to perform any preventive maintenance, (e) modifications, (f) unauthorized repair, (g) normal wear and tear, (h) any type of racing or competition, (i) any off-road use,

https://www.knfilters.com/warranty

/*snip

So if you off-road - you have zero warranty..

Just FYI...

I looked into them a while back and passed because of the off-road clause voiding the warranty. I go out 4 wheeling every few weeks so their warranty would be pointless for me..

I was speaking to the reusable one with the 'lifetime' warranty. Its actually on sale right now for $55.

It's kind of ridiculous that off road voids warranty. They even sponsor some off road events and vehicles. Probably a lawyers decision.

Those are what I ordered!

These came today and I've already installed them. The aftermarket engine air cleaner sits about 1/4" taller than the FoMoCo one. It's a snug fit, but it fits. Frankly, I think the construction seems better on the aftermarket one.

The cabin air filter was nasty! I'm glad I got these swapped. Both me and my Bronco are breathing a little easier now... 😜

That's a great deal! Wish they'd been that price when I got mine. I have 3 , one for road use, one for off road that I switch in at the beginning and out afterwards. Plus a 3rd for use when one has been cleaned and is drying or if I go for a multi day offroad adventure that I think I'll want an extra filter for. It is crazy how much dirt and bugs get in the airbox/filter.

The replacement filters seemed to be of sturdier quality. Just sayin'. It was very easy to change it; it only takes a couple of minutes.

The owner's manual only contains a brief description of what a cabin air filter is and what it does, but it doesn't tell you how to change it. YouTube to the rescue! 🙂

How To Change Cabin Air Filter
The prime deals convinced me to do my annual change a bit early. It's crazy how dirty these get from off roading.

Agreed! It might just be my imagination, but the cabin air seemed to be a lot fresher after I replaced my filter. I often run with the windows up, so there may be some truth to it. Maybe I got accustomed to stuffy air over time.

I'm going to be monitoring the filter health a lot more closely going forward. It wouldn't be a bad idea to combine changing the engine air filter with the cabin air filter at the same time as the oil filter.

Agreed. Especially given how easy it is to change. It's hit or miss from one vehicle to the next but this one is a breeze (no pun intended) I think I'll start keeping an off road one and switch it in/out on the trails like I do with the engine filter.

I was really surprised how dirty my air filter was after only 6000 miles. I will have to say that we hit a lot of dusty trails in Moab last spring though.

Mine looked worse after only 1k miles. Dust on the trails, especially red dirt gets everywhere. Even, wasps, bugs, and dragon flies from the open road. Our airboxes almost need some sort of pre filter.

I'm with you there. I have heard of people over oiling the filters and creating MAF issues. I have 3 of the K&N Bronco filters that I rotate keeping one to exclusive offroad duty but at $22 for 2 of these I still figure it's worth it maybe I just use them for off-roading and toss them after.
