Gladesmen

Feb 10, 2025

Anyone see the Jeep commercial with the Bronco. Some folks are talking how Jeep did bronco dirty but I saw it as hey we inspired people to make a (possibly better) adventure vehicle. And Ford says they talked to Jeep folks to find out what was the best parts of Jeep and what they need to fix. Also Han Solo says pick the vehicle that makes you happy. And as I drive down the highway on a long road trip to a place to go wheeling I am happy with my Glades. Bronco is not for everyone but it is for anyone.

Oh, the Jeep guy gave him a look, all right. šŸ˜„ Screenshot 2025-02-10 at 10.35.13 AM.png

Deceiving freeze frame aside, the dude in the Jeep actually gave the Bronco a head nod..

I don't have any issue with the commercial. It was very American and well done by Jeep.. Well, other than I am not a fan of Harrison Ford but I'll even give him credit as he narrated it well..

Maybe it's not available on the Rubicon. It seems Jeep sometimes limits what colors are available on certain trims.

The hero image on their Gladiator page is a Mojave in Mojito. But you can’t select Mojito as a color when ordering…a Mojave.

So you're saying the Jeep build and price designers are right on par with the Bronco's?

Right?!? My Bronco was the first ever vehicle I’ve ever ordered. Everything else I purchased right off the lot. The ordering process left a lot to be desired, but I’ve since discovered the competition isn’t any better… at all. Tesla seems to be the only auto company to figure it out, but I can…natzee myself ordering from them. Ever.

Marketing Analytics guy here, my thoughts were:
  • That was a 2 minute spot.
  • You (Stellantis) maybe got 30 - 60 seconds of that gratis due as an add on for your sponsorship.
  • So, you (Stellantis) just spent a minimum of $16 million on the ad buy up to $32 million (unlikely)
  • Additionally, you added the cost of roughly $1 million for Harrison Ford
  • The images were of drivers on closed lanes, and not A.I. generated, so there were normal production costs associated as well. They didn't even produce it how many of us are producing commercials these days. They spent more.
  • All of that, combined with what I know about our own Super Bowl ads in the past (I work for a very large corporate entity that regularly markets at the SB), means that there is no way this ad will ever pay out from a Return on Advertising Spend perspective.
  • And, Stellantis just had a historically poor financial year with Jeep down more than 10% in sales.

So, that all ran through my brain, and then I just went, "Wow, what a waste of corporate money. Bad ad."

Didn't even cross my mind about the Bronco in the ad. :)

I'd say it was a raging success. The idea was to annoy Bronco owners and appeal to Jeep owners.Judging by the response here it worked.

Pretty good ad! My family missed the Bronco drive-by, until I grabbed the remote and played it again. So that alone makes it a pretty effective ad I guess. The dog's double take at the end when he whispers Ford is worth a chuckle.

Well, If the most successful SUV for the last 75 years (ish) is spending that much $$ on advertising they must be struggling to maintain market share… Me thinks…

Based on the numbers ,length of time on the lot and the incentives, Broncos aren't selling either. Not to mention recalls.

Definitely a marketing ploy for sales being bad for Jeep, but they have to do something since they also have had recalls on there vehicles.

Not exactly.

XYZ is supposed to be "sell more Jeeps and attribute more profit from the advertising than the cost of the advertising itself". Otherwise, it is a net loss from the marketing.

And I've never worked for a large multi-billion dollar organization (and I've worked for a few and still do for one) where the finance folks are okay with net losses on marketing. That's what puts marketers in the unemployment line and marketing budgets cut for the next 3 years.

This commercial was cleverly conceived and executed, with a thoughtful narrative and enriching visuals. That said, I felt it was nothing more than a way to make existing Jeep owners feel better about their purchase. It didn't tell me anything new about Jeeps or how they're superior to Broncos. They weren't fishing for new owners. They were gratifying their faithful owners. That's a small part of every advertising budget. Reinforcement = loyalty = future sales. :geek:
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

The message to Jeep owners seemed to be ā€œstop hating on electric vehicles. We can all play nice. Do what you like and don’t yuck someone’s yum. ā€

The nod (or diss, depending on how you took it) to Bronco was really unnecessary to the overall message and story telling.

My advertising guy always said you should never mention your competition in your ads.But car makers don't abide by that philosophy and take pot shots at each other. Ford vs chivy trucks is the worst offender. But at tbe end of the day it's only a car commercial, it's not going to influence my opinion or decision one way or the other.

I found the ad too long and boring. It was pretty much a diss on Bronco from the trail pass and use of Harrison FORD.

The question is, what company buys Jeep (and RAM), when Stellantis has to sell off assets in the near future.

GM doesn't have an offroader.
