EVs are the blood diamonds of the car world

Aug 18, 2022

It's not news that anything and everything Bronco is hot and has been for the last few years but has anyone else noticed that even the old Bronco II's are getting swept up in the craze? I've been trying to travel as much as I can in the Bronco and I've been seeing alot of them on trailers having been newly acquired from folks driving distances to get them same as one would with a collector car. Just seems crazy to me, growing up just about everyone had one and they were reliable but I never really liked them despite my affinity for Ford products and the Broncos.

Welp, they're not making any more of the old ones, and with the current rise in popularity of the moniker, it's no wonder people are snatching them up or taking better care of the ones already in their possession. I for one am glad to hear this, as every iteration of Bronco is unique and has worthy characteristics. I like it!

I do like that I am noticing alot more Broncos of all years and conditions out and about. Locally I've seen a couple 1st gens and 90s very patina'd and some rust but driven with pride as well as a few 1st gens that look like prestine generational family vehicles that are seeing the light of day for the first time in a while. Gotta love that.

Yeah that's why I have forgiven the Mustang II but there was still a Bronco during the Bronco II maybe that's why they went away for years. It's the deuces fault. Lol.

The Bronco II's had some good body lines - but the hideous rear 1/4 windows that wrapped up into the roof were just awful. Plus the drivetrains on them were weak and complicated. If they had stuck with a 5.0L, decent trans and T case, solid front axle (or at least a decent IFS) they'd be a lot more popular.

I've often thought about grabbing one that's not too rusty, getting rid of the back half of the roof (and those hideous side windows), fabricating a better steel top, or having a custom soft top made. Then, drop in a 5.0L, solid drivetrain (EB D44 front, 9" rear), and enjoy it.

Speaking of the 5-oh! I do wish it had been an option atleast in 6th Gen. Really would have worked with the retro new old again vibe.

It makes sense. Excitement for the "new" Bronco made old Broncos shoot up in value. You can get a new Bronco (if you wait long enough) but you can't get an old Bronco from Ford.

Maybe you can't get an old Bronco from Ford, but you can get one from numerous builders out there, in any stage of completion and customization you can think of.

Complete original style body? Sure. Steel or fibeglass? Stock or stretched? Flared rear fenders or uncut?

Custom frame? You bet. Wider rails, set up for 4 link, additional crossmemebers, built in body lift, you name it.

You can build a complete Classic Bronco, using all aftermarket parts, if you want to.

I guess that's why there are so many flavors of vehicles. My son drove a customer's Bronco II the other day and he absolutely loved those windows.

Yes. Seeing lots of International Scouts too. VW bringing scout back in 2026. I saw online one dealer in CO last week had Scouts + 70s and 90s Broncos for sale (K5 Blazers and RamChargers too). Nice selection. Decent prices. I'm still tempted to buy any one of them..but the wife said we gotta wait. Dang it lol

I always kinda liked the Bronco II, but my first Car was a 1975 Mustang. I will not call it a Mustang II because there was no other Mustang from 74-78 that was the Mustang. Say what you will about how ugly it was but if you take that 302 and BB and Bore it out it was a fun little car for a 14-16 year old. Mine was the silver Ghia with the Cranberry interior. I never owned a Bronco II but did have a 1984 Bronco XLT with the 351W for a while it is actually the reason I am getting a Bronco now I just loved that thing. I still see it every so often and try to buy it back every time but they won’t sell it, it is on their third generation of owners in that family. I do know the folks.
BN 1100, Desert Sand Everglades. Reservation 7/30/20. ordered 1/22/21, reordered 10/15/21 dropped tow and hard top, reordered 3/9/22 changed to Everglades. production date 9/7/22 rescheduled 9/14/22 completed 9/26/22, shipped 10/7/22, arrived 10/31/22, delivered 11/03/22

I get what you're saying but they were literally called Mustang II's badged and all due to Henry Ford II there was a bit of a Roman numeral complex/obsession? Screenshot_20220822-110952_Gallery.jpg

I grew up with the bulletproof F150 of the early to mid 1980's. Those 300 straight six cylinders just run and run forever. While going to college I needed a reliable daily driver ... that was easy to turn wrenches on.

I owed both a 1983 and a 1985 ..... and I wish I still had both of them. I learned from my mistake and will never part with a Bronco.

Then around 2002 I noticed that the OBS 1992 -1996 Broncos were going for dirt cheap. Sine I already was familiar with the F150 .... it was a no Brainer to transition to the Bronco...... and they fit into my daily driver formula.

Daily driver formula from 1995 to 2005 .... Look for a Ford truck that has right around 150,000 miles. It must be well taken care of .. and have zero rust. Purchase price should be from 2,000 to 3,500.

Of course like 95% of all Bronco owners around that time ... All I wanted was to make it a lifted .... bass ass off road machine.

I installed my first skyjacker 6 inch lift on my 1993 Bronco right after I bought it for 3,200 in 2005.

In 2010 I picked up a 1996 Bronco with a stick shift for 3,500.

I was lucky to find that one .. it was at a buy here pay here lot.

2008 was a very bad year for Broncos and large Trucks in general. Obama's cash for clunkers speed up the demise of countless Broncos and F150's. Since the MPG was 15 mpg they were perfect for getting your money to put down a nice 4 or 6 cylinder rig.

Yes ...... the new Bronco resulted in both my Broncos doubling in value very quickly. This is because You can throw 75,000 on a top of the line new Bronco with all the Goat mode features your heat desires .... but I will put my 1993 with a 5.8l, 6 inch lift, 4:56 gears, full Detroit locker in the rear..... riding on 35" BFG mud terrains up against it any day of the week. So you have to value the fullsize a little higher than a 5,000 to 7,000 they were going for only 5 or 6 years ago.

But the cost of that is ...... 9 mpg on the highway...... with a gas tank the size of a small swimming pool.
