Steering Failure

PSA to you 6th Gen Bronco owners: my 2022 Wildtrak’s steering was beginning to “stick” occasionally when rolling out of a turn. This went on for a short while but I could find nothing on the forums and the dealer “could not duplicate”. Well, I was on a road trip (8.5 hrs) and, in the most remote area after a gas stop, the steering decided to lock up. Not “stick” but completely lock up. I was able to eventually get it to move & was able to move the vehicle to a safe spot before calling a tow truck. The closest dealer looked at it and decided that the entire steering column needed replacement - not a cheap fix. My extended warranty that I got through the dealer helped, but wouldn’t cover 100% of the cost.

I guess what bothers me the most is that I know there is a recall for some Broncos and Bronco Sports for failed steering of some sort, but it does not apply to my VIN#. I just thank God it didn’t lock up on me during one of those mountain hairpin turns!

Glad you got the truck fixed and no injuries. I find it interesting that your warranty didn't cover everything. I looked into it a while back and was told, the high end package they wanted me to purchase was 100% no ??? asked. What level of coverage do you have, if you don't mind telling us.

Veritas full coverage. Not cheap. The difference is in what the dealer charges for labor. They evidently use an algorithm that is somewhat unrealistic.
And once work starts (which in my case needed to be ASAP), there is no disputing.

I am glad the OP is okay and what happened to him sucks but.. These are mass produced vehicles and stuff happens. Every manufacturer has lemons, issues, recalls etc.. Some more than others. I have a 2023 and have had a total of 2 recalls on it, that's it.. 2.

Terrible dealers? Yes there are plenty of them but I blame the dealer NOT Ford themselves. I've never really had an issue with Ford themselves.

In the OP's case, it appears to be an isolated issue as I have not heard of this happening to any other Bronco owner.

Re: Ford being terrible. The grass is not always greener on the other side...

We would be happy to look into this for you. Could you please send us a DM with your VIN and mileage so I can investigate this further?

Really? One Bronco's steering locks up for an unknown reason, and the entire line of Broncos is now labeled a "shit product"? Machines break.
No salt tram towers were harmed in the making of this post...
