Steel & Stirrups Traveling Lamp

Hello Bronco Nation! Welcome to the Steel & Stirrups Traveling Lamp tour. This is your opportunity to participate in Bronco Nation history and be part of a member-driven coast-to-coast social event.

The Backstory:

Jerry @14U refurbished a 1976 Coleman Lamp as the grand prize in the Bronco Nation Member Steel & Stirrups virtual game. You can read about it here: https://thebronconation.com/forums/threads/steel-stirrups-est-2022.12929/

I ( @TechnicalDisaster ) won the prize, but I’m so lucky that I already own one of @14U’s awesome lamps (and mine was specialty painted to match my Velocity Blue Bronco). Rather than accept the prize, an idea was hatched to spread the joy and use the grand prize lamp as a traveling treasure to be passed from one member to another.

IMG_1215.jpg

The Goal:

We want to collectively guide the lamp across the country. We would like to get the lamp in all 50 states, each of the Bronco Off-roadeos, important Ford & Bronco locations, landmarks, events, and more. We would like volunteers (YOU!) to help us move the lamp across the nation while creating images, new friendships, and memories along the way.

How the Lamp Tour Works:

Bronco Nation Members who want to participate in the lamp tour need to agree to the terms and conditions below and then post their home state. @Bluestreak57 will maintain a travel calendar and help ensure the lamp continues to move around the country to complete the tour. While the lamp is in your possession, take pics of the lamp with your Bronco, some state landmarks, at a Bronco Nation meetup, or any other places that have special meaning to you. This lamp will be a journey to “Enlighten “ the spirit & social network of the entire Bronco culture.

Post your images to this thread so they can be shared with Bronco Nation and collected by the Steel & Stirrups team. Images will also be posted to the SteelandStirrups Facebook account!

Terms and Conditions:

Your voluntary participation in this program requires your effort, commitment, and a nominal financial expense to ship the lamp to the next Bronco Nation member as directed by @Bluestreak57. To participate, you agree to:

  • Be a Bronco Nation member.
  • Pay for shipping to send the lamp to another Bronco Nation member.
  • Provide your shipping address to @Bluestreak57 as well as the member who is shipping the lamp to you. @Bluestreak57 only collects this information to track the location of the lamp and will not use it for any other purpose and not provide this information to anyone else.
  • Maintain the lamp in its original refurbished state. Do not alter the lamp in any way. Do not affix any stickers, logos, advertising, or other signage of any medium to the lamp.
  • Replace the shipping box if it can no longer be used to safely ship the lamp.
  • Follow the shipping instructions in the travel log. (NOTE: do not ship the lamp with bulbs in the lamp… don’t ask how I know not to do this).
  • Not hold possession of the lamp for longer than two weeks (unless arrangements have been made). Every effort will be made to schedule your time with the lamp around important events (like a scheduled OffRoadeo event), but we don’t want the lamp staying with one person for too long.
  • Allow images you post here on this public thread to be used by the SteelandStirrups team to post to the Facebook group and Instagram page.

If you would like to have a turn with the lamp:

Please make a post with saying that you agree to the terms and conditions and name your state. Your BN# and BN User name will be added to the list. Note: A state can have more than one volunteer listed, but you may not be selected in the first trip around the US. First to post gets priority.

Tracking is done by Google Sheets:

There are two tabs; Tracking and Journal. The Tracking tab has a list members who have volunteered to carry the lamp to their state. The Journel tab has a history of where it's been and points of interest.

Meetups
While you have the lamp, we encourage you to host a Bronco Nation meetup in your area so other BN members can take pictures with the lamp and post them here.

Let’s Get The Tour on the Road!
Once again, if you want to participate, please post “I agree to the terms and conditions” and your state in order to be added to the list.

NOTE: We realize the lamp has been stationary for awhile, and want to get it on the road again… IF you have a special event involving numerous BN members coming up, direct message @Bluestreak57 and I will see if we can’t connect you with the lamp… Those on the spreadsheet who have not had the lamp yet will be contacted to determine continued interest.

Thanks for your patience!

We can’t wait to see you all (virtually) on the tour!

You are 3rd in line.

I apologize that I haven't been around a lot lately. Too much going on with work. If I drop off the face of the earth again, I might need someone else to jump in and do lamp management. 😓

Just dropping a few photos as I wait for family. Has been nuts with a flooded basement and then the passing of my mother. I will send the lamp to the next person when I get back home next week and have the address. Thanks for looking and hug your loved ones a little longer. You never know. Earl the elder aka my 67 wanted in on the fun.
So sorry for your loss! I'm just now seeing this post. Great pics!

Let me echo that sentiment, @Sven. I'm very sorry for your loss. It's never something for which you can be fully prepared. And THANK YOU for sharing those epic photos with us all. Very inspiring.

I have it. Came in the middle of hanging Christmas lights. Did get a few shots of it with the Sandia Mountain. Sandia means color of Watermelon. The Sandia Mountain is on the East side of Albuquerque. I live in Rio Rancho on the NW side of Abq. But I'm up on a Mesa. When the sun sets, Sandia turns red, the color of watermelon. I don't my camera picked up the color very well. Hopefully pics are right side up when you open them. More to come! It may be Saturday before I ship it to @Calgecko. I think he gets it next. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Got this shot yesterday on the way home from work. Abruzo is a NM family that are hot air balloon pilots. This is the balloon museum that sits on the SE end of the field where the balloons take off for Balloon Fiesta. This is a week long event every October. There are mass ascension every morning and almost every evening there is a "glow" (balloons stay on the ground, but are filled with air, and they do a burn every so often and it makes them glow in the dark. Albuquerque has a unique wind flow in the valley that is called the "box effect". Where the balloon can rise to like 1,000 ft and go south, then rise up and catch a flow going north and land in the same place they took off from. And some days they get blown to the west side or east side. It's great when they end up landing in your parking lot at work or your yard at home. They play games too, such as "Splash and Dash" where they lower down and touch the basket on the Rio Grande River (stream has been a better word lately). There are about 400 balloons or so that register each year. They had the 50th annual Fiesta this year. And we had historical monsoonal rain this year too. Monsoon season ends at the end of September.
That is all I know about this.

Awesome shots, @Darrel! 😎 I've been to New Mexico a couple of times over the years. I even rode a hot air balloon during the Balloon Fiesta. What a great place to showcase the Bronco Nation lamp! Looks cool in front of that terrain.
