Standard Badlands with 33's vs Sasquatch package

This question has probably already been discussed over the past year or two. I haven't found an exact answer anywhere as of today. I've put my July 2020 reservation on hold because of some unavailable options. I'm planning on pulling the trigger on a MY23 at the end of this month!

Question: What exactly is the difference between the two besides the size of the tires, fender flares, & clearance . If I include the black wheels with carbonized grey beauty ring $995. The Sasquatch package is still $3,095 more. Badlands already has the 4.7 ratio with locking diffs. There's no way to justify that price upcharge over the factory Badlands in my opinion. Does the SAS have a lift kit included as well? Are the shocks that much better? Anyone else already figure this out? Thanks, Zack

Just expanding a bit off of what @Shoresy mentioned—he got most of it.
  • Wheels
    • Badlands: 17x8 +55
    • Sasquatch: 17x8.5 +30
  • Tires
    • Badlands: 285/70r17
    • Sasquatch: 315/70r17
  • Suspension:
    • Badlands: HOSS 2.0 w/ 0.67" lift over standard
    • Sasquatch: HOSS 2.0 w/ 1.10" lift over standard
  • Axle ratio
    • Badlands Automatic: 4.46
    • Badlands Manual: 4.70
    • Sasquatch (both transmissions): 4.70
  • Rear sway bar IS included with the Sasquatch package - This was new to 2022MY, 2021MY did not have it, and we do not yet know what 2023MY has (it probably will have it).
  • Crash Bars are NOT included with the Sasquatch package
  • Wider fender flares are included on the Sasquatch package
In my personal opinion, the biggest benefit of the Sasquatch package on the Badlands is the axle ratio. This also means if you ordered the manual transmission there really is no reason to get the Sasquatch package, it's just throwing away money in my opinion. If you are getting an automatic, it's kind of a toss-up. 4.46 axle ratio will handle 35" tires just fine, so it depends on if you intend on going larger than 35", if you like factory wheels/tires, etc. etc.
So, all you're getting with the squatched badlands is roughly 1/2" more clearance from the suspension and an additional 1" from the tires, for a total of 1.5" more clearance. These are pretty small numbers when you come right down to it. Cost for that extra clearance.... Thousands

There is one thing I’d do differently.

I ordered the optional bead locks with Goodyear MT (33”). Didn’t realize at the time that the offset wouldn’t allow running a wider tire. So now I’m stuck running 285s or, what I’ve done, wheel spacers.

I’d just get the stock wheels and KO2 and then upgrade tires and wheels when they wear out.

You don’t get to add the lift plus tires. Only clearance gain is 1” from the rubber.

I ran fins and things, hells revenge on my 33’s. And Red Elephant in CO. Along with Broncos and jeeps on 35 and 37. I made it through everything, essentially the same lines, but definitely more scraping and getting hung up (stack rocks, recovery boards). The extra 1” can be significant, IMO.

The extra 1" of clearance you get from the SAS tires over the stock 33" KO2's can be significant. Basically you'll touch your skids more - but that's why they're there. Additionally, BL already has HOSS 2.0, so you're getting the upgraded shocks and steering components with all BL, regardless of SAS or not.

We went BL, 2 Dr, 7MT, non-SAS, for a lot of the reasons listed here already. Basically going to evaluate the tire size as we go and swap up to 35" or 37" when the KO2's are ready to be replaced. You could also do this out the gate after receiving your BL and be way ahead vs the price of the SAS, in a 7MT. If you go with 35" tires later, and do a 1" level lift, you'll have a little more clearance than a stock BL w/SAS.

Were we going auto, I think we'd of gone with the SAS, for the added flexibility down the road.

One other difference between BL and BL SAS is towing capacity. The SAS has a lower capacity. Had a talk with my dealer about this and it's in the manual.

@YIPEIO Badlands, at least the four-door, doesn't have a 3,500 tow rating either; 3,300 - 3,500.

Right. All of the different door and trims have slightly different tow ratings.

Realistically though if you’re looking to regularly tow this close to the stated 3500 lb tow capacity, the Bronco may not be the best vehicle for you.

Most gear and teardrop trailers will be well under 3000 lb.

Beautiful!! That's exactly the color and combo of my original build. Really bummed they got rid of Rapid Red. Love the stripe! Did you get that stripe custom made or is someone selling kits like that?

Yeah you’re not getting a Bronco for towing capacity . A little disappointed, I’d like to be able to tow my old mustang, which means I’d need about 4,200 lbs or so of capacity.

I ordered badlands with 33’s b/c I wanted manual gearbox in 2021 (couldn’t do SAS back then).

I believe, but honestly not 100% sure what changed in 2022 and beyond, that SAS gets you:

1. a bump stop that limits uptravel and provides room for the larger tires.
2. 17x8.5 +30 offset wheels
3. 315/70 R17 tires.
4. Maybe a rear sway bar?

I’ve been running the larger tires with 38mm hub centric spacers on mine with zero rubbing issues (moderate trails). Oh yeah, removed the crash bars too. Plan to do 1.25” perch collar level this winter!

Obviously I'm late to this thread but I was looking to see if I could put 315/70R17 tires (SAS size) on the upgraded Badlands rims you have - I also have 2021 Badlands with those tires - and found this thread. You said in a later post on this thread that is not possible? What size tires do you have on there - they look bigger than the factory ones that I have, altho from what I can tell they are the same Wrangler Territory model. Love the stripe btw. Any direction on the tires/tire options with these rims would be appreciated!

You can fit 315/70R17 on the optional Badlands wheels, but you have to mount them with a wheel spacer to completely prevent rubbing.

The optional wheels have +55 wheel spacing while the Sasquatch wheels have +30 spacing, which means the mounting surface on the optional wheel is roughly 3/4” of an inch closer to the center of the vehicle.

I have the same wheels, and the best we can do without a wheel spacer is 285/75R17, 295/70R17, 295/75R17, or 35x11.50R17. (The last two on that list are the largest.)

Yes. I’m running 315/70 17 with a 25mm spacer (38mm was too much for my liking). Removed crash bars too.

It’s great that you are looking at the 7-speed standard transmission😉, I would definitely recommend it. You can get it with the Sasquatch package too.
