Premium vs regular gas

What fuel are you running in your Bronco? I have the 2.7L with about 25,000 miles on it. I have only used Premium Fuel so far, and am currently running an experiment running it on Regular to see if there is any difference in fuel economy or performance.

Anyone else done a comparison? Is there more I should know that I don't?

Thus EPA testing is perhaps good for comparing across models and engine configurations, but of less value when trying to predict personal mpg performance…

with a 2.7 Sasquatch and OB the EPA says I should get 17 mpg…. I get between 19-5-19.8… so far (only 1600 miles thus far)…. I expect that will improve as I become better at driving the car and it gets broken in fully.

Some on this site are getting better mileage, and others are getting worse… location, gas choice, habits, weather, all play into the final number…. If gas mileage were any kind of deal breaker people would not buy this car…

These are foreign words to me😂. Is it like in the 1950's when the kids would run to your old coupe and fill the tank so you can flip a quarter to them?

Its Jerzy, and its bullshit

20 cents more for premium times 15 gallons (2 door) equals $3 a tank. Is anyone here who just paid 50-60k for a new Bronco that hard up for $3? (wait for person who says they gets 50 tanks of gas a year to say that $150 a year and over the lifetime of the truck adds up to thousands of dollars....sure he/she did the math while waiting in line at Starbucks to get their daily $7 cup of coffee lol) just pointing out the truth.

Hey Nminus1,
Well stated, and I could not agree more. We are fortunate in B.C. to be able to run 94 octane, and that is exactly what I put in my tank 100% of the time. And yes, you can definitely feel the difference in performance.

True, but again, that doesn’t tell you what your real world results will be because the world isn’t a lab.

We don't drive our cars in a laboratory, real world is all that matters.
The octane debate will never be settled , its hardly worth discussing.

There’s really nothing to debate. It’s common knowledge. Fuel
requirements and benefits are clearly written in your owners manual.

Well......one thing is certainly clear, having fuel is better than not having fuel. 😉

The other thing I noticed after towing a couple of motorcycles in a small U-Haul trailer from WA to Death Valley and back......You can only get so much MPG regardless of octane (not saying higher is not better), given its about as aerodynamic as a box. The most obvious thing I noticed......the faster I try and go over about 70MPH, my MPG goes to crap......sub 10mpg in a headwind. The best MPG I saw towing was about 16.5 doing 55-63MPH. Last year, along the same route, I had a nicer trailer with only one dirt bike, and keeping 55MPH I saw 21.5MPG! (2.7L engine).

Maybe I'm contributing zero to this discussion as it seems everyones got their own intension as to performance vs economy vs 87-93 octane (ethanol free or not). 😑 I dunno..... I guess what I can say is the Bronco is a very comfortable road trip vehicle regardless of your choice of octane or speed. 😎
