At some point in time, Boston decided to have a holiday for the Irish. St. Patrick's Day was the natural choice, but it is, after all, a Catholic observance. How could this be made an official holiday? By happy coincidence, it is also the day in history in 1776 that Washington mounted cannon on Dorchester Heights (in South Boston, actually), forcing British General Howe to evacuate the city.

The artillery pieces were captured from Ft. Ticonderoga (in New York) by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold and the Green Mountain Boys on May 10, 1775, who made a surprise nighttime raid. The British commander was awakened at sabre-point by Allen who demanded his surrender "in the name of the Continental Congress and the Great Jehovah!" The artillery was hauled across the colony on ox-pulled sledges the following November by a 25-year-old bookseller named Henry Knox (for whom Ft. Knox in Kentucky is named) and delivered to Washington, thus forcing the British to evacuate the city.

St. Patrick's Day parades began in 1875. The "Evacuation Day" (St. Patrick's Day) as an official holiday was established in 1901, but is official only in Suffolk County: Boston, and the adjacent municipalities of Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop.

In June, we get Bunker Hill Day on Friday the 16th, and then Juneteenth on Monday the 19th. Four day weekend! Now, if we can just get a holiday for August, we'll be all set!👍

I'm a spaz. I didn't realize it was happening until it was well underway. I thought about joining but my last Zoom party didn't go so well. I didn't know what I was doing; I couldn't hear anyone and didn't know if anyone could hear me! 😜

I will definitely give it a go next time around. Even if I can't hear y'all, it'll be good to connect. I'll keep my eyes open for the date and time...

Don't worry we couldn't hear 14U most of the night.....actually we could hear him.....we just could not understand him....it's hard to get good internet in OK....I know...

At 3am the smoke detector starts chirping because the battery is low. Dig through the “junk” drawer for a 9V battery, find every battery but the 9V battery that is needed to silence the chirping in the smoke detector. Of course the chirping woke up the puppy who needs to go outside and it’s 23F out.

While out walking the dogs I remember that my pin pointer I use when metal detecting has a 9V battery in it. Get back from walking dogs, grab the battery out of the pin pointer and put it in the smoke detector.

Now here I am WIDE AWAKE at 4am.

Guess I will start the coffee and start on breakfast for everyone.
