Out of stock shock delima....

Last month I ordered Dobinson's coilovers from shocksurplus. Their website says 1-2 processing 3-5 day shipping. It's been almost a month and still nothing. At day 16 I started reaching out only to get an automated response until I responded to that asking for specific info on MY order. Turns out the shocks themselves are backordered. They have No idea when they'll be in stock. I checked other websites and low and behold they are out of stock everywhere. Including Dobinson's website itself. So if the manufacturer is out of stock, there's no telling when all of these suppliers will catch up.

So.... do I continue to wait, or work with them to do something different. 6112 full set? 6112 shocks with the Dobinson springs?

I originally told them let's wait another week and see if they show up but now knowing that even Dobinson's shows them as backordered on their own website now I'm not so sure.

This sucks b/c I did a lot of research and spoke in detail with the support team at shocksurplus to decide what would be the best fit for me and my driving style and type of terrain. And this is what we landed on. I hate to just switch to something else just because. But don't want to just be hung out here waiting with no idea when they might be back in stock.

Well, they finally came today. I got an email saying the coil springs had shipped and they would notify me when the struts shipped as they were still backordered.

Opened the box and low and behold, Everything was in there. Coilsprings, Struts, Staybar relocate bracket. All of it.. Go figure.

Of course there are no instructions. Nothing that says where to set the perch rings for what lift height, only a "don't go past this length" number.

There's nothing that designates which spring goes front or rear. Even on the (shocksurplus) website all it has is front, or rear. No part number. On Dobinsons site all it has are part numbers. No F or R. So now what........ Deep google dive to find out how the hell to put them together correctly? I guess so.

All in all, I would not recommend purchasing from this particular company based on my experience.

Oh, and if anyone can tell me where I Can buy some top hats that would be great. I don't really want to have to take apart the factory ones in hopes that someone may want the sasquatch version for a low price of whatever I can get for them. lol

I have them all the way around. Learned lot's of tricks. Give me a call if you want. 334-375-3006. Tommy

Ok with Tommy’s help I’ve determined which springs are which.

Now to figure out where to set the perch.

No I got the IMS kit not the MRR. set up is slightly different. I know “how” to put them together and how to install them on the bronco that’s no problem. What I dont know currently is which set of springs goes where and how to set the perch height to gain a certain about of lift. I dont want to max them out. I also want the rear set about 1/2” lower than the front so that it sits level.
Wow, I find this really surprising. My Bilstein’s came with a full set of printed instructions and they were also available to print up. That should be SOP for all of them?

You’d think so. It’s pretty straight forward but knowing what the distance between the bottom bolt and the bottom of the spring perch, how that correlates to amount of lift would be helpful. I’m assuming the Bilsteins tell you which notch to put the clip in for x” of lift.

All based on exposed thread.dial it up to X and you are here. To Y or Z, you are at another amount of lift. Very straight forward and provide you the tool to adjust.

Obviously. But what are those numbers. That’s the key.

Where is “there” because it’s not included with the struts and I can’t find it on their website either. All I can find is the Max to set them at. To that end, if you go to instructions on the dobinson website there’s not even a set on there for the IMS struts that I have.

And just an FYI finding the instructions on line was a PITA. It wasn’t until I opened the boxes that I saw them inside🫣

I don't have bilsteins I have dobinsons. The measurements will not be the same. On the dobinsons you measure from the center of the eye to the the top side of the perch. Which is not what your instructions say so, those are pointless. Also, I have opened ALL the boxes and there are no instructions except for the sheet telling to not to set them past the Max distance which is 9.5" front and 7.6" rear. That's it. No other information.

And I‘m guessing no one answers their phone. That’s what I ran into with Shock Surplus and Bilstein. I just don’t get why these companies are like this.

This is the sheet that came in the box. All it gives is a max height setting and how to measure for it.

If you don’t mind doing so, put up all the parts numbers for your kit and I will do a deeper dive and see if I can help.

So weird. Why only put the generic amount of max lift without the correlating numbers/amount of thread height for the actual amount of lift? Without any other numbers to set it from, why bother giving any information or adjustment at all? It’s amazing how all of these companies, no mater what type of product they are selling, find a way to leave out or gloss over important information or steps in the process.
