Just bought a ‘24 Bronco 2 months ago. I love it, except one thing… I think I have a severe allergy to the vinyl waterproof seats. Where my skin has touched the seats directly ( backs of legs, backs of arms) I have developed what looks like eczema, and when directly on the seats it BURNS and itches like crazy! It started the day I bought the bronco. And the longer I’m in the car I’ve even developed respiratory issues. Has anyone else had this issue? I’m thinking of trading it in on a different Bronco with leather seats?

Wow, that's crazy. My son just bought a 2024 Big Bend with the MGV seats. None of us have noticed anything like that. Sorry to hear about it.

Is there any chance the dealership used something to clean it up and that's what you are allergic too? It's plausible that it could be the seat material, I've just never heard of it, sorry.

It is super crazy! My family has not had a problem either.
The dealership said they didn’t put anything on the seats, in fact they still had the plastic on them the day I bought it. They did say that the seats are sprayed with an anti fungal and UV protectant, but that stays on the seats you can’t clean it off. Before I take it back, I wanted to ask to see if anyone had heard of this or had the same issue. Thanks for the reply!

Congratulations on the purchase but sucks to hear about the skin issues. Hope you find out the cause and it can be remedied quickly. Welcome to the nation and feel free to ask away. Someone here will have the answer… except maybe the skin problem but now you’re here, you’ll have that answer.

Congrats on the new Bronco & welcome!

It sounds like your ownership experience is truly bittersweet as I am sure you are totally stoked about your awesome new ride but bummed about the reaction you are having to the seating surfaces.

Have you notified @Ford Motor Company (not your dealer) about the issue you are having?

I hope you find a suitable remedy and wish you all the best!

You could also go with the Mabett covers which most people seem to be happy with. It looks like they only come in a couple of colors though.

I second this. I would legit talk to Ford - maybe they can help you with getting a suitable set of covers or even swapping for a different set of seats.
I would also see if there's anyway a dermatologist could run a sample somehow to see exactly what is causing your reaction.

Welcome to the Nation.
I would look at the Katskinz as mentioned before. it is better leather than the Factory ford seats and you are replacing the MGV. I would want to get rid of that if it is causing you respiratory issues and not just cover the MGV seats with a seat cover. The factory ford leather seats are only leather on the seat back and seat bottom the rest of the seat is vinyl.
That said I Love my MGV seats sad to hear you are having these issues. Hope it works out soon.

that is a good point - I saw a set of Katskinz in person on an OBX trim a few weeks ago & they looked really good. at least as nice as the leather I had in my Limited trim F150.

Welcome to the BN Nation! The issues with skin contact is unfortunate, seeing that you’’re loving your Bronco. The wraps for the seats are a possible solution but will second thencomment from @Jakob1972 about seeking a more permanent solution considering the suspected respiratory issues — which hopefully isn’t made worse by a/c use In the Bronco.

I hope youenjoy your stay and wishing you the best on a resolution.

I have had MGV seats for 2 years and no issues. My son with a severe peanut allergy (and then other more minor seasonal allergies) has not had any issues either.

I third (or fourth?) the recommendation of looking into seat covers. Katskinz is the big player in the space, but Mabett may be cheaper.

I also third the recommendation of seeking out a physician. But, I would actually recommend you see an allergy specialist and not a dermatologist. The allergist can then test you for allergies to things like vinyl, latex, etc. It is possible to develop allergies later in life that you may not have previously had as a child or young adult. As a parent and spouse to folks with severe allergies (peanuts for my son as I said, and wheat/gluten for my wife), the allergist is where you want to be.

My wife has developed an allergy to latex but vinyl doesn't affect her. Bandaids, surgical tape etc causes an immediate irritation to her skin. Never heard of vinyl affecting anyone but I did find this on the net.

"An allergic reaction to vinyl is very rare. Vinyl is made of man-made and synthetic materials, so most people who think they have a vinyl allergy aren't actually allergic to PVC2. Instances of an allergy to vinyl are almost non-existent, and those who do complain about some type of reaction are really experiencing a skin irritation called contact urticaria, caused by a lack of ventilation to the affected skin."
